At this point in my life, I've seen probably 98% of the recorded versions of Chess that are out there, both publicly and privately, and I will say to the end of time that Jodi Benson plays her role with the most beautifully tragic balance of passion, pain, anger and sheer heart better than anyone out there. If you can find her version of Nobody's Side, you will see exactly what I mean. Amazing.

One question: This Jodi Benson in this performance of "I Know Him So Well". This wouldn't be the same Jodi Benson who did the voice/singing voice of Ariel in Disney's The Little Mermaid? Would it?
Robert Yacko Wow! I always thought Jodi Benson would be great to play Elaine Paige's character, Florence if they make a film adaptation, maybe animated, of this musical. I even thought she and Barbra Streisand would be great to sing this song too.
Seeing Jodi not doing her "Ariel" voice is refreshing. It almost makes me wonder what it would've been if she had done a more belty broadway sound like this for Part of Your World. Regardless this is an amazing performance.
Well, for one thing, Howard Ashman kept pushing her away from that approach. If you watch that video from when they were recording part of your world, Howard Ashman pushes her to make it more "intimate."
