  • Investment strategist, Magnus Heystek, who is well known for his brutally straight forward views on the economy, has become a cautiously optimistic man. In this interview with BizNews, he shares the positive signs he has picked up from following all the economic indicators - and lists the priorities that remain to prevent a return to the edge of the abyss. “…after 10 years of saying things are bad, I'm saying things are starting to look generally a little bit better, provided the Government of National Unity sticks to its task and manages to cobble a coalition together and do the right things.” However, he adds this warning” “The danger is, of course, that there's a political fallout as some people have predicted, and the new government falls apart, then the risks are all back on the table.” Meanwhile, he has already invested in more property in South Africa…

    Being in the residential property industry for over 10 years, I can testify to the fact that most property has devalued over the last 10 yrs, most people are selling for less than they paid.

    A lot of arrogant wealthy people comments here. Magnus is correct about the destruction of wealth and the effects on ordinary middle class and lower economic level people. He is simply saying that there are dome few positive signs that need to develop. These are indications only. There are still huge problems and great dangers ahead as well as a huge amount of fixing up to be done.

    Still remains a great article
    Foreign Investment is coming back to SA, All ready seeing more Foreign bond purchases in the first half of 2024 than for the whole 2023.
    You have to acknowledge the positivity that the new coalition have brought forward. I don't see any factual data and progress to justify any signifiant near term growth for the JSE. Still a lot of uncertainty regarding policy's and Mid term outlook. Increase of SA holdings should be on the cards for every Portfolio.

    The reason for the Eskom improvement is that the massive stealing has been hauled , they are afraid of being brought to justice by the DA. Now we will see massive improvements in all state owned entities. 🤗

    • @zeed5764
      @zeed5764 Před 8 dny

      It's actually the private sector - 6MW of solar installations - which has shielded Eskom from 6 stages of load shedding. And this will continue because it has become cheaper to produce your own electricity. Also, the mines haven't been as active lately, so that has reduced demand. I do think that Eskom had gotten rid of some of the rot though.
