  • Replacing the standard CDR500 stereo in a Vauxhall Astra G Mk 4 with a Sony CDX-G1200U.
    It took a bit longer than I'd hoped, but was worth it!
    Things used:
    Sony CDX-G1200U (The new radio)
    Autoleads PC2-04-4 (Leads for connecting radio to wire loom within car)
    I'd disabled comments on this video a while back due to several, quite frankly, unnecessary and offensive comments. However I've now enabled them again and responded, honestly, to everyone who'd taken the time to comment before.
    ** Note - for "entertainment" purposes only and definitely not a proper how-to guide! **
    Some answers to the... more polite questions:
    The original black bracket was replaced by the silver one that came with the stereo
    The leads that were held by the black bracket had to be detached and then connected to the adaptor cable I'd purchased - this was then connected to the back of the stereo before final fitting
    As the cables were loose there was a lot of fiddling and choice words exchanged - hence the lack of footage; keeping it clean folks!

    Youve only forgot to show us the most important part: How the factory one comes out and how the clip thing works

    This video will show you it is possible to replace the factory stereo. It WILL NOT show you however how this was achieved.

    I'm looking to do this on my Astra. Any idea if the steering wheel controls works following installation? Did they work natively or did you require an adapter of sorts?

      @@Q7Prod thanks for the reply.
      It looks like you can get an adapter which allows the integrated steering wheel controls to still function. So looks to be needed to use with aftermarket head units. Thanks anyway!

    the problem i ran up against was, there is no memory, when power is off and you restart car, you have to reset it, all settings are lost, there is 1 blue wire left over im presuming is for auto antenna, any ideas gladly appreciated.

    • @Q7Prod

      I used a harness adaptor - Autoleads PC2-04-4. This connected between the back of the new stereo and the connector that was in the black harness. I had to remove this connector from the black harness when putting the new stereo in.
      I also used an Aerial Adaptor in order to get the radio to work!

    • @Q7Prod
      @Q7Prod  Před 4 lety

      Hi Dominik, I'm not sure I'm afraid. When I replaced the stereo I lost all the steering wheel controls and never really got round to sorting it.
      A quick google suggests that Connects2 (connects2.com/ ) may be the place to look for adaptors. Please note I haven't done this myself and I don't know if it'll work or not!!

    • @Q7Prod
      @Q7Prod  Před 5 lety

      Hi, the harness adaptor was the Autoleads PC2-04-4 and I originally purchased it from Halfords (an automotive parts shop in the UK) - but they don't seem to sell it anymore. You may be able to get the same one from somewhere like Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Autoleads+PC2-04-4&ref=nb_sb_noss) but please be aware that I lost the column controls as the harness lead didn't support it; also this was the thing that worked for me - I can't guarantee that it'll be the right solution for you I'm afraid!
