You can indeed. This little movement is one of the strangest in the repertoire. It occupies an emotional territory in the cosmos hard to know just where it is.
@@lukegriffith2828 Thank you for a comment very well worth meditating over. For me, this piece is simply profoundly melancholy/sad - but if you experience its emotional territory otherwise, I would be very interested to hear your perspective. I'm indeed hard put to think of something else to which it could be adequately compared - but I recently had a talk with a dear friend about the slow movement of Mahler's 6th, and perhaps this could approach it, from a different angle. What do you think?
After having heard once more, it sounds for me ideal. This interpretation of Brahms can be considered as the absolut interpretation of this music because no other interpretation renders it more expressive articulated and authentic as in this version.
I love how this elegant pianist arranges the weight of the left hand during 00:45 - 0.55. It made me doubted myself if I was playing the wrong notes for a while, but I was then stunned after several replays on this clip.
The beauty of her interpretation and performance is just simply off the charts. I'm weeping uncontrollably as I listen to this movement from my favorite Brahms symphony. I prefer slower tempi so I can savor every single note. Thank you Ms. Khoury.
Agree with everything except with the "here and there, a little too slow". This is exactly how I prefer. It is perfect. It will be a reference for me, and I love this piece for 30 years or more (I am 46 now).
Absolutely gorgeous! So beautiful I cried. What a thoughtful performance! Your tempo, voicing, phrasing, clarity....all perfect! I would love to hear you do Otto Singer's transcription of Brahms Symphony No. 4, which also sounds great on piano 😊
Hearing this interpretation out of this world after one year it overwelms me to the tears and makes me showder as I feel comming back in myself, at home. This music reflects a whole philosophy of life, although here and there with moments of a slight glimmer of hope, but ultimately of deepest grief that is incurable like death. Johannes Brahms sang in his happiest moments "I'm looking forward to my grave."
LIfe can also be about witnessing magical moments, sharing them, and providing as many as we can for others to share. This musical moment is one of them. Bless the pianist, the composer, and Houtaf for sharing this.
AMAZING performance, best available in CZcams by far. It almost feels like the full orchestra playing it. A beautiful rendition of the original piece. Closest thing to Brahms himself composing it on the piano you can find. I gotta learn to play this. :)
You played this so beautifully! I have had this piece for a long time but have not learned it. Hearing you has inspired me to go ahead and work on this lovely piece to play for my piano group.
Ta muzyka to historia niespełnionej miłości Johannesa Brahmsa do Clary Schumann (primo voto Wieck). Bezapelacyjnie jeden z najpiękniejszych utworów muzyki romantycznej. Brahmsa co niektórzy jeszcze rozpoznają, ale któż dziś pamięta piękną i utalentowaną Clarę Wieck?
The timing of every note is absolutely perfect, and the extended pauses between heavy sections extends an even deeper sorrow into this piece. Absolutely breathtaking.
Thanks to Houtaf Khoury for sharing this great interpretation. It is a little slow for my taste, but it is superb in the clearness of the execution, and has amazing dinamics. Tatiana Primak Khoury is a remarkable interpreter. Thank you all!
Such a beautiful performance! Brava! Dare I say that you might have even made this sound better on the piano than it usually does with the orchestra? I will definitely look forward to hearing you play other movements of Brahms symphonies on the piano too. Maybe the 2nd movements of #1, 2, or 4?
Beautifully played with amazing quality throughout. This is a true Brahm symphony favorite and I am excited to listen my favorite movement performed on piano. Hoping to learn which arrangement you performed in this recording, to order the piano music ? Thanks ahead.
You did a much better job than Brahms himself with his own music, a huge bravo not only for your talent but especially for feeling and living the music like you do here!
Your playing is absolutely hypnotically breath-taking. I don't know if you still read these comments, but if you do, please may I ask which edition you're using of this wonderful arrangement? The one I have at the moment is significantly reduced and I would love to learn this version! Thank you very much!
You're very welcome! That website is my go-to for virtually all classical music sheets and arrangements. It's a vast library and it's basically all free to download! 👍
Purists may scoff at this comparison, but while this was the most satisfying rendition I could find of this piece on CZcams, the all too brief excerpt I heard from the "Delicate" episode of Law & Order Season 9 I found to be far richer sounding. Or am I hearing things? I wish an expert here would take the time to make the comparison and explain.
I really loved it! But let me say something... On 4:05 to 4:08 I really miss the rage and speed you know, this one was too much soft for this line song...
This was the first piece of Western music I listened to when I was 5-6 years old when my Dad bought the first cassette player.
I’m a girl and I’m almost falling in love watching her playing the piano. She is so elegant and expressive
You can almost imagine Brahms improvising this symphonic movement at the piano before orchestrating it.
Maybe you are Right. Thank you for supporting
Fantastic!

Actually, Brahms orchestrated his original score for 2 pianos
this is one of the few times that a transcription from a symphony to a piano is so so so so lovely.. thanks tatiana.. you shine

Just breathtaking and hypnotizing. Sometimes, here and there, a little to slow, but the strong poetic expression is overwhelming.
Agree with everything except with the "here and there, a little too slow". This is exactly how I prefer. It is perfect. It will be a reference for me, and I love this piece for 30 years or more (I am 46 now).
I prefer the song slowed, and in some parts of the song, it is written slower anyways.

Moving, brings they fleeting Moments of happiness. Thanks You Tatiana to make such a romantic interpretación from what Brahms felt

Very sensitive and clear interpretation. The tempo is perfect. The piece is not easy. Thank you for sharing.

There's a wonderful arrangement by Luke Faulkner. You can find the link under his corresponding CZcams channel

This phrase shows the deep thinking of Brahms for Clara.

Who transcribed this? Is the sheet music available anywhere? Please I hope someone can respond!
Some composers must listen this piece to understand what is the difference between music and noise here Brahms creates a masterpiece for eternity
The 6 people who disliked this cried so much they thought the dislike button was the like button.
Grossartig.
I love how the broken chords excentuate the melody.
Lindo!
Hello Tatiana. I am just a fan from Mexico. Could you please tell me who transcribed this arrangement for the piano? Interested in learning it.
does anyone know where to find the music sheet?

Omg i NEED the sheet music where can i find/buy it?😍😍
I believe this is the transcription by Otto Singer Jr. (1863-1931). It's available at IMSLP [dot org].
I wish this were "official" along with the original symphony.
Bueno. Mucho.....Domo Arrigato......
Nice
wow great! very nice!
ps: 2:51 - 2:53 is piano a bit out of tune ? or its just capturing effect ?
b flat my guess
5:01
It's out of tune yes
The silent heart of David isn't silent after dark.
Left hand ballances the pain of the right hand notes
She's left handed. So for me it's different.

Too slooow ...
7:38 really sad
La reprise à 4:44 me fait pleurer.
Chopinesque
one word. (SUBLIME).
I really loved it! But let me say something... On 4:05 to 4:08 I really miss the rage and speed you know, this one was too much soft for this line song...
The only comment making a critique I agree with. For me, the rest of the interpretation is perfect.
im genuinely trying to find a transcribed sheet for the piano
Imslp. Arranged by Singer.
I wish Godowsky had paraphrased this piece. I pretty much think he was the all time master of paraphrases.
Who wrote the transcription?
By the way, the piano is unfortunately badly tuned.
