Thanks for posting this I have only known Ryan as Robert and never know the history but I know the Sugden family was a long time Emmerdale clan. Thanks again helped fill in some blanks.

I adore this as I've always been fascinated with Robert's relationship with his father. And I love seeing the old clips (I like the fact you including all four incarnations of Robert; and his mothers, Pat, Sarah (both versions) and Diane). Great choice of music and clips, all making it very moving. Thanks for editing and uploading.
Arhhhh Jack sugden, Emmerdale has never been the same since. The chemistry between Andy and jack was unreal, beyond TV scripts- growing up I thought they were real son and father
loved that Daz was mentioned.... bring him back! Also, forgot Robert has a dead brother (also mentioned here) and an older sister who he never mentions, soaps are so strange sometimes
He was devastated sure his relationship with his father wasn't perfect but he loved his dad and he loved him back
well considering he forgive andy for sarah, trying kill robert and shooting him but sent robert away in the end, and pushed robert aside for andy, it kind no wonder he screwed up as sees it as andy is preferred by jack and the whole family like.

More poor Andy in these clips, knowing the actual storylines from watching this at the time Andy is the one mostly in no man's land here as the adopted kid whogets blamed for a lot. Andy is being blamed for stuff in flashback and being told by their dad that as Robert is flesh and blood he Robert is to have the farm etc. The Farm hand story never happened, Victoria was once messing around with a farm hand at one point but Robert not back then, it was never shown and does not make sense the amount of time Robert was on the farm at that age back then (Jack is not a character like Aaron's dad who we never saw much, he was on our screen all the time and this was never shown ). I like Aaron and Robert but glad Emmerdale have stopped referencing back to the past with the character Robert, there are things Jack did wrong but new things keeps getting written that back then don't make sense? Most forget that Andy was disowned first and that Robert was Jack's best man at his and Dianne's wedding; Andy was in the cold. Robert just pushed it too much to get disowned but Jack in the end forgives his children,Victoria for nearly killing him in the arson on the cottage fire,Andy for shooting him and eventually Robert if Jack was still alive now
Only Me I know logically you're right. But emotionally Robert felt rejected. Emotion isnt always logical and fair. He felt hard done by, even though he wasnt. Jack was a wonderful father. But perception of childhood experiences is often skewered

Andy's life is far more tragic, that is soap. However, Sarah was neither Andy's or Robert's biological mother. This soap is often very soapy but the divorce between Jack and Sarah did show how courts can split families...at least there was an element of reality in that storyline
Jim Livesy His father always loved him, There is no doubt about that, grew up watching this! Robert was the golden boy at one time,, Andy could do no right, Robert could do no wrong clip 2.27 is their dad half apologies to Andy for getting blamed for something he did not do again (he was also getting blamed because he was the foster kid). Their father even said to Andy "I want Robert to have the farm when they were about 15 years old because "Robert is my flesh and blood, and Andy is not." in front of the brothers clip 0:31 secs. When Robert broke up with Katie Robert was broken and who was there for him, his father clip 0.50 secs. When Robert went missing as a child Jack was beside himself. When Robert and Katie were together he let them both live with him instead of seeing them homeless even though he knew it would break Andy's heart seeing them together in his father's house. Many episodes you would see Jack playing with Robert as a kid and always hugging him and telling him he loved Robert. Things went wrong when it became obvious Robert was not interested in the farm and Robert's parent's bitter divorce after Robert found out about the affair- their relationship became strained and even more so when Robert found out he went to prison instead of Andy. Robert never once has said 'my dad did not love me ' he has always said 'I was a disappointment to my dad',...which was correct in the end in his late teens and a lot of that was down to Robert's behaviour. Remember Robert was already disowned way before the car crash for nearly killing Andy and his little brother on purpose and deliberately trying to ruin the family business, setting the barn on fire and working (undercover) for their family rivals
I love seeing old clips of Jack, I grew up watching him- he was like the nation's TV dad. I have to disagree with comments about Jack not loving Robert, he loved Robert alright there was no doubt of that watching Emmerdale years ago but it was not enough. Love was not the problem at all, they grew apart into two different people that had little in common and saw the world differently. It was the opposite away around with Andy and Jack, they started out not close- Andy even at one point preferred to live back with his biological dad who was a murderer in a caravan rather than remain living with the Sugdens but Jack and Andy grew to really love each other and Andy had a love of farming that made him and Jack so close and they did grow to have a special bond.

Can we just remember that Robert and Jack did not always have the best relationship
neither did Andy and Jack, in fact at times Jack and Andy's relationship was heartbreaking worse at times. Andy was not even invited to Jack and Dianne's wedding while Robert was best man, Jack put Andy back in to foster care, how many times did Jack say 'Robert is my son' to Andy- however, how many times did Andy say your are not my dad to Jack. Just watching this video reminds me of watching Emmerdale back in the day, so many old clips- oh the nostalgia
@@swipeleft3996 least Jack never washed his hands of Andy totally like he did with Robert and he treated Andy more as his son even though Robert was his biological son and Andy caused the death of his wife and mother of his kids and shot him trying to kill Robert. so is any wonder Robert believed he favoured Andy and loved Andy more.

@k h Jack was not a saint but he was the best dad on Emmerdale at the time, most people watching back then agreed- the only dad who was in his league was Vic but he was murdered by Andy's biological dad. it seems we are going around in circles- Jack was a single parent for most of his son's Robert life, he took care of him. He is no saint but compared to the dads on the soap at the time he was the best. He never leathered Robert- it was made up all of a sudden, and totally out of character, when Robert came back and all of a sudden Robert was with Aaron and we had to justify his crap,which was ridiculous if you really WATCHED the story back then- the only person in the Tate's family that Jack could stand was Zoe (she was gay) and then there was Paul (Bernice's brother who was gay) who he totally adored. Jack was the best father on Emmerdale at the time- watch the old episodes if you do not believe so

I know he was very very young
he was only a few months old when his biological mother (pat) died, but he was around 14 when his other mum (sarah) died xx

How come jack told rob to go away what did he do ?
If I remember Robert was going away anyway. He had tried to destroy the family farming business, he kept tying to hurt Andy and Daz, he sided with the Kings trying to get the Sugden's land away from Andy and Jack, nearly killed Andy and Daz in a barn fire (Jack's other sons) and was leaving anyway because something happened at home farm (I can't remember what) and Robert knew the Kings were coming after him. This was Rob's last stand, trying to get Debbie away from Andy, not because he was particularly interested in Debbie, but he wanted to take Andy's child away from him in a last attempt to hurt Andy and if Debbie left she would take Sarah too- Andy stopped Debbie leaving and hence them playing chicken when Robert was leaving without Debbie and child. Jack was saying you are going anyway- go, you've done enough. And if I recall- this was so long ago- Robert had to leave anyway and Andy had to stay as Max King died in Andy's car, Robert got away before the police came and no one except Andy and Jack knew Robert was involved or that he was to blame.. I remember Andy getting so much trouble off the Kings afterwards but he never threw Robert to the wolves, he just took it.
I think it was the whole stuff with Katie and constantly hurting andy and family etc but andy is not exactly innocent in their feud. robert always seem get the short stick and andy always seen as the victim. when andy been equally awful to robert as andy has been to robert imo. frankly bad as each other. andy basically usurped robert and andy still golden child after all messed up things done, while robert was bad and a lunatic for things he did.
@@swipeleft3996 considering sarah death and how much andy appeared favoured afterwards can kind understand robert behaviour but he took things too far in ways. where as 2015 robert was far more villainous probably down to being kicked out the family after feeling an adopting sibling was preferred etc. never really got support re sarah and grief etc while appeared andy did after all stuff he done. kind no wonder he so bitter.

XxGraciexX, Recently we heard Robert tell Aaron about when his dad caught him with the male farm hand & realized that Robert liked men that way .

I don't know if the same child actor is playing Robert but clearly the same boy who played Andy as a little boy , is still Andy .
shydreamguy wantsaboyfriend We actually never seen it onscreen, and it wasn't ever mentioned up until that point. I don't think there was ever a farm boy working there who was actually mentioned onscreen.

not on the show at all, to me growing up Jack was flawed but one of the great guys, Things are being made up now to fit this current story line that we never saw watching this soap once/twice a week back then, while I like Robron I think the writers need to be careful how far they will trash Jack for this current story line. There are still traditional viewers that look at his picture of Jack at the pub every time there is a scene there and miss him.

I saw a clip from when he was accused of stealing he was innocent he was framed .
Idk if this is true or not but I think they got the idea from Troyes Sivans song cause what he describes is exactly what happens in the music video and the guy looks like him
