I remember reading an article somewhere that most people will recall nostalgia more frequently or in greater intensity when hearing sounds or lyrics resembling or alluding to melancholy. Vaporware and Synthwave tends to be very ambient and drone like, recreating a sense of emptiness and an old esthetic of times long gone. It's also futuristic in the sense of utilizing modern day computers and synthesizers to emulate something we would currently interpret as futuristic.
Synthwave lives in that in-between.

I completely encourage this direction of music. I love metal, I was raised on it and technically it was my first passion with music. However I would love to see more musicians branch more into the Wave genres.

That would be great, but sadly, he doesn't seem to really capture the essence of Ghost that well. To him it seems to be just an organ in a minor key and some guitars (at least the vocals are spot on, like always) If you want somebody who really managed to capture Ghost's unique style, check out Melodica Bros (Sound of Silence) Despite that, I still would love to see this cover.

Well Kavinsky’s most popular song is Nightcall which was featured in the 2011 movie Drive. So I definitely see the cinematic appeal here

@@dasumma1 Cyberpunk 2077 was the key for synthwave to explode, but they fucked it up by releasing a buggy mess, and the soundtrack is like 5% synthwave and the rest is electronic/ rap/ heavy metal/ rock :(

Nightcall also sounds a lot like it had influences from Daft Punk.
That's French electro for you, you can even hear the JMJ influence in both Daft Punk and Kavinsky's work
