    "They didn't answer any questions, it makes no sense"
    Most of these same people think they were dead all along from the start when actually they weren't.
    I recently watched Lost after 14 years of it's release. And in my opinion it's a great series. I really had so much fun watching it. And they answered most of the questions, all most all important ones. Some people don't know that the questions they are asking are actually answered in the show, they just need to use their brains. And sometimes you don't need to answer everything, but leave them out for interpretation or let them remain as mysteries. They did leave a few questions unanswered but it's fine. It's just a Tv series.

      First 2 seasons are stellar.
      3 is pretty bad. Mostly cus Julie and her bad acting. 4 is above avg. 5 is eh. 6 is horrendous except for a few scenes like the mirror thing. Which is quickly made fucking uninteresting and useless cus jack has a temper tantrum.
      These guys didn't answer any questions except ones that had to be answered.
      A friend of mine ruined my expectation from season 2. He said he doesn't watch it cus they make the story up as they go along. Meaning they will fuck up cus they aren't smart enough to cover their multiple tracks they just throw out for drama. That said it's one of my fav shows that I'm rewatching. Albeit skipping all the nonsense, mostly flash backs and lame drama.

    I disagree that saying, "That's my interpretation of it" is some kind of cop out. In interviews, the writers have always encouraged fans to draw their own conclusions, and I think that's more of what he's getting at. He also said that the basis of that scene depended on if Ben was telling the truth or not, and given Ben's track record at that point...he probably wasn't.

    a great show with a lot of Greek/Egyptian mythology, philosophical differences and a lot of deeper mysteries than we think, a lot of religious overtones as well as balancing stuff like time travel and sci-fi leanings, almost seems like too much for a tv show, but multiple watchings will satisfy you eventually on all the mysteries.

    If you rewatch the series, there might be more to that episode than first thought. Could Hurley's "Dave" be Libby's deceased husband, "Dave"? And could the monster be taking the form of Hurley's Dave while on the island? Trying to convince Hurley to jump off of the cliff would certainly compliment the monster's intention to have all of the candidates killed, and would share similarities with when the monster as Christian led Jack off of a cliff in 'White Rabbit'. Interesting ideas to chew on...

    I like to think that Libby in the mental hospital has ties to her husband's death. She did seem a little abnormal when she offered Desmond her late husband's ship.
    Thankfully, like a lot of the questions that weren't directly answered, it is of little significance in regards to the series as a whole. Apart from Walt, nothing else prevents the narrative from functioning cleanly.

    A network television series is generally burdened by having to produce longer seasons, have restrictions in terms of the content they can present, and are susceptible to market changes that either affect the show or the network it exists on. Network television is designed around having large numbers in order to attract advertising, whereas cable attracts subscriptions.

  • @Damon242
    @Damon242 Před 12 lety

    It's better after you rewatch it all. A lot of it nicely meshes together, but you can see where the writers had a little issue (the cabin is clear example of them coming up with a better idea). I'm sure that if LOST was on cable, with a smaller amount of episodes per season, instead of network television with initially 25-episode seasons, it would have been a lot easier for them to control the flow of information.
    Thankfully a lot of what is left to interpret has little significance, minus Walt

  • @CosmicUndeadElf
    @CosmicUndeadElf Před 12 lety +2

    I don't expect them to explain everything, it's good to have a bit of mystery left. I just thought that there would be more answers (or at least more clues) than what was provided. Certain things were hinted at being more important to the story than they were (Like the cabin, the Egyptian statue, or the Hurley bird), so it that felt like a tease. Aside from that it is still a classic show with an over brilliant story behind it.

    • @TheAudioCGMan
      @TheAudioCGMan Před 4 lety

      I revive this 7yo comment. The statue is the egyptian goddess Taweret, responsible for "childbirth and fertility". Some Egyptians were on the island and also couldn't give birth, so they built the statue in the hope that the goddess is pleased and helps them. It's connected to the story to show that it's a very old problem.

      But it's a cop-out; it wasn't the story they had in mind from the get go. Everything in season six was made up on the fly - they switched from a strictly sci-fi premise to fantasy and used the new story to try to tie everything together. Telling us "everything happened for a reason" when the only reason is that Jacob was looking for a successor is a cop-out; nothing has any real significance that way. I guarantee when they came up with the smoke monster it was just that: a smoke monster. It wasn't until they tried to find a reason for all of their BS that they came up with the two brothers.

    • @CosmicUndeadElf
      @CosmicUndeadElf Před 7 lety +1

      War Machine How do you know this for a fact? Also this show saw a previously crippled man suddenly able to walk because the island fixed him. There was even a scene where Locke described the island as "magic" when talking to Jack. The story was a mix of sci fi and fantasy, and the writers said that they knew how it would end since the first series. That said, I agree that they could have explained some things more clearly. The average TV watching audience isn't going to take the time to analyse it all, so it's the writers own fault for all the negative feedback.

      Locke is laughing at the writers inability to answer any of the questions they came up with and is clearly angry at having been in a show like that.

      Horace, the statue, the ash ring, the eyeball in the cabin, Locke losing his voice, the voice in the cabin, Walt, the banyan trees, the mechanical sounds of the smoke monster, how Ben summoned the smoke monster with water, why magnetic fields can stop it, the Hurley bird, Ben's "magic box", who shot at the boat, etc. There are dozens of unanswered questions. I'm about to rewatch the first five seasons and I'll come back with a lot more for you.

    These guys need to take an improv class. The show died due to a terrible case of "offeritis."
    After season 3 it was an endless string of "...and then," "...and then," "...and THEN."

    These videos just prove to me that the writers had no idea what they were doing with the show or where they were going and for me, the ending just wasn't good enough

      +Cee Lay I agree with you completely girl! At first I was mad but now I'm starting to feel bad for them. The ending left me even more confused than I was before the show ended. I feel like the writer said let's just kill them all and call it a day.

      lol My head canon is that there was no season six. At least season five sets up the time loop/paradox and brings the story full circle; it leaves the questions unanswered but it gives the impression that there are answers and we can figure them out if we try. Season six just threw all that out the window, changed from sci-fi to fantasy, had the gall to claim the questions were answered when none of them were, and was just a big stupid mess. I still love the show and tell everyone to watch up until the end of season five :P

      When the show first aired a lot of people suspected they were just making stuff up with no plan to explain any of it, while they kept swearing they weren't doing that. Of course, years later they reveal they barely had any idea what they were doing with the story.
      They admitted that the Hurley Bird wasn't even intentional, it was just a sound effect that resembled Hurley's name. When fans started talking about it, the writers thought it would be funny to show the bird another time or two and have Hurley notice it. It never had any explanation.
      They had no idea what to do with Walt. They kept talking about how "special" he was, and it never went anywhere, then they just wrote him out of the show because he aged. Totally useless character.
      Only a few things were actually planned in season 1. The existence of a past scientific research team examining some kind of anomaly (Dharma), and the unusual animals (polar bear) were part of their experiments. And the fact that the island would turn out to be some kind of battleground between good and evil.
      They had no idea what the smoke monster was going to be. They had no idea who the two skeletons were going to end up being. They just made up tons of random stuff, and when possible they tried to make that stuff compatible with the story (like saying the Hurley bird was part of Dharma's animal experiments, or that the smoke monster turned out to be a person with evil powers).

      @@bobdonda I don't understand what your complaint is. I'm sure if ABC said you're going to have six seasons and 118 episodes to tell your story they would have had some kind of clear plan, but that's not how network television works. They could have been canceled before the first season even finished, or after the second season, third season, etc. As it turns out they had to beg ABC to stop since if it was up to them it would have kept going until people stopped watching. How can you plan for an end when you don't even know when the end is coming? I don't blame them for focusing on actually making a show that people wanted to watch which they were massively successful at.

    • @bobdonda
      @bobdonda Před 3 lety

      @@MrElephantBeach The complaint is that they created mysteries with no clue how, when, or even if they would ever be able to resolve them.
      Other good shows didn't have this problem. Other shows found things for their characters to do without creating wild situations made for the purpose of shocking the viewer and making them wonder "wow that was crazy, how and why was that even possible?"
      The Lost writers didn't know when the end was coming, but that doesn't mean it isn't foolish to create a mystery without any idea or what the mystery actually is or any plans of how to explain it.
