I have a 2001 Trooper and the check trans light comes on and off. Sounds like we have the same symptoms. In the comments you said that it was a wiring issue. What part of the wiring was damaged? I've been trying to solve my problem for 5 months, so I would appreciate you help.
Yes, it ended up being a problem with the harness that connects to the overdrive section of the transmission, so it was running in limp mode. Do you have a check trans light?
@@gamer78full yes and it is flashing. I actually just put this transmission in due to the original transmission had quit pulling all together. The new/used transmission shifts great except for the hard shift going into 3rd. The harder you accelerate, the softer the shift.

It was the harness that connects to the front section of the transmission, the one with the 4 plug connector. Try to pull the codes first

It had a problem on the wiring that goes to the overdrive section. After I fixed that it started to shift normally
