This video kinda hits home for me. I am currently in a 5e Ravenloft game. Its only like my 2nd 5e DnD game, although I have been playing DnD since first edition. I played BG3, finished most of act 3 as a oath of devotion pally, and a group of my friends were like hey lets play Ravenloft. I was like cool, I have been wanting to try out a Tempest Cleric Storm Sorcerer in BG3, so I will run that on the table top instead. I gave her the Pirate background and she worships Umberlee. We are currently level 6, and I have been enjoying the thunder and lighting damage I have been doing as I focus on Chromatic Orb and Shatter spells right now. but unfortunately for the past 2 levels or so, I haven't been able to get into the pirate theme I was going for and therefore have been waffling back and forth over letting her go and making a new character that might play better into the gothic setting of Ravenloft. Our current party consists of a Hexblade Warlock, Battlemaster Fighter, Divination Wizard and my Tempest Cleric/Storm Sorc. For toons closer to the setting, I have been considering Spirits Bard, Necromancer, Old Ones or Undead Warlock and a single class Twilight Cleric. There are even a couple of druid subclasses I have looked at as well, though they may not fit the gothic setting, which are the Summoner and Land circles. As you can see lots of waffling to be had by me. :)
I've had players want to switch characters mid-game. It's no big deal. Sometimes we've arranged for the PC to get a heroic death, sometimes the PC has just retired. Once I used that retirement as a plot point; the retired PC disappeared and the rest of the group decided to go find out what happened. Generally I only switch characters when my PC gets killed. Haven't needed to do a respec or reboot yet.

I think a great way to reboot your character is to do so in a new system
