Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!

Hi Rosie, I am just now watching this 2 yrs later 🙂 Your videos have really recharged my art practice. I am really thinking about what I would do with your images before you do something. Your choices are almost always better than mine. We think a lot a like.
On this piece, I would have cut the woman and arch out of the white image and maybe the flourishes as well. Would they have gotten lost in the piece? That is my concern 😮

Righteous Cause!
I can't write poetry about the things I used to. All of it is well on it's way into life. I get caught in reverse a lot. I finally realized what that going in reverse meant with relationship to my writing. I understand the whole of my relationship to writing and writing in reverse to going backwards in general: I said, "No. Nope, I'm not going that way anymore. I am going forward with my life." I'm doing it with you. We're going East, Grace, East of Honey, and you're driving. I'm still stunned by just how far back around the ends of the beginning of time I've crawled back up into. Now that the United States if legally officially defunct, I can safely take my soul and tie it to your and go foward.
I can do the math on this craziness. I got really into my soul, and that soul wants you.

I get it! I'm a hero. Why am I acting like a dog if I took so long to prepare? Why couldn't I be a dog? Well, it's because I have to exist the happy place that takes over when I understand you. I have been elusive. I know what you're thinking. It's not that, but it's very much a category of that.
Love your collage style. I spring. I would have cut the white straight edge on the right side. Would give the impression of her walking into the landscape.

Oh I love this idea! I've never used anything like that before so I really wasn't sure how to fully incorporate it.
I too was thinking that cutting the right side or cutting all of the white frame would soften the border separating the woman from the background. And then the white trees would look like ghostly images of the background trees.
Overall I think you did great with the images afforded you in thus challenge. The cat collage made me smile. TFS

Angels are hybrids of living things. thus the sacrifice on the cross. the body gets cut but the biodiversity allows to live through it and mutate into a hybrid biology - angels

I know I'm crazy. I got so busy being crazy, such that I - knowing you are righteously correct - I had to keep the crazy away from you. I knew you'd be there when I orbited back to my spaceship.

I'm trying to tell you that you know everything. My speech is limited. I found out that the United States was disbanded, and I lost my ability to write poetry. You are the one that read my poetry. I promised you to combine all the beauty of the world that makes us together - I get put in reverse a lot.
