Fork Mounted Wind Deflectors - Ride review

  • I installed these Harley Davidson fork mount wind deflectors a few months ago but never got to ride the bike and test them out at highway speeds So I took the bike out and tried them out in this video. The fork mounted wind deflectors block wind coming from the bottom of the forks and causing buffeting on the helmet. The results are unbelievable ! I'm truly impressed with the reduction of the wind buffeting !

I put those on my road king 3 years ago when I bought it. I almost sold the road king for the same reasons you're talking about. And wow did it make a difference because before I put them on after a while I didn't want to ride the bike anymore. Then I put those on and I wanted to ride and keep riding. I put lowers on my road king took those off but put them back on because they work better than the lowers so with the combination of those wind deflectors and the lowers is really good, Plus I really love to look of them when I had them off it looked like I was missing something it didn't look right.

Based on your original video I purchased the HD wind deflectors for my 2019 Road King. They work GREAT. About 95% reduction in wind buffeting, even with a windshield.
Glad you are back home and had a similar experience with the deflectors!

You've found the Holy Grail. A few years ago and 2 bikes back I made my own using pieces of Lexan from Home Depot and some big stainless hose clamps and 1/2" aluminum angle bars. Worked great and very rewarding to make for about $25. Like you found, they make a HUGE difference in making a "bubble of calm". I'm riding a Goldwing now and that bike is a giant wind deflector all by itself.

Thanks for posting! I’m 6’1” and ride a ‘19 Road King. Last year I tackled the buffeting problem with similar solution as you. After a couple of windshields ended up happy with the tallest offered from Freedom and that helped a lot but still not happy. So I ran across a vid on these deflectors that I believe a rider from Australia had posted. I was a bit of a doubting Thomas that they would actually make much difference but given a low investment risk and super easy to install I got a pair and have been amazed that they not only solve the buffeting but look pretty cool too. I may actually be able to go back to a little shorter windshield but happy enough to leave well enough alone. Next I’m going to dump out of the stiff stock rear shocks and likely go with Ohlins but early on in researching shocks. Harley really needs to up their game in this area. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Agree 100%. Those fork fangs look great. I bought my Road King late last November. And honest story, I didn't even notice that the bike had them on it. So I can't speak to the effectiveness of them since they were always there. I do wonder if they rob cooling air from the cylinders though.

Just installed these on my bike based on this video. Still waiting on my windsheild. Had a huge problem with buffeting with my stock street glide. Would eventually like to get a set of paint matched lowers eventually, but they are gonna be about $600, these were $60. And after just buying the bike, I'll wait a while to do the lowers.

I liked your video. I have a '16 FLHTK that I bought new. Like you I was getting too much buffeting. I am 6'4" & have modified the bike to fit me. I purchased fork mounted wind deflectors from Jescustom ($105) that are designed for my bike. They make others for other models. I also installed a wind deflector ($35 kuryakin)under the triple tee. They make a huge difference! Bike does not run hot & these deflectors are a must on highway/long distance rides. Easy install with no modification. Works great with lowers as long as you order specifically for your bike. Great video & hope you don't mind my suggestion. Ride safe.
