    I prefer those from Modiano. That more "comics-like" style is more aestetic in my oppinion.

      That’s a great choice!

      The colours are really strong and the clothes feel simple and more grounded to modern eyes. The faces could use a bit of work but it's a really pleasing effect.

    Congrats on the elegant authentic/retro styling of these vids Chris! I also have the Dal Negro Siciliane as my #1, closely followed by any Piacentine deck & the underrated Austrian Piatnik Napoletane deck. Best wishes for Xmas from Sydney... hoping to play some Cucu with the family today. PS very jealous of that Mignon deck too ;)

      I got into Italian cards when I bought Piatnik's Napoletane once by accident, I wanted a quirky "normal" deck of cards and stepped into a whole other world ':) Means a lot to me.

    The blind Cupid could also be an art historical reference. In Renaissance Italy there are many examples of the blind Cupid such as the chubby flying dude in Botticelli’s Primavera.

      Great observation! The echos of the Renaissance are written all over these cards imo. Thanks for watching!

    The Piacentine deck is the 2fort, the Battlefield, the de_dust of Italian playing cards.

    For what it's worth, the Neapolitan is much more available in the US and costs typically half what the Piacentine does. The US market may reflect other factors than popularity, however.

    Beautiful deck! I think I'll certainly try to get my hands on a dal negro one at some point

      It really is. A good combination of the Spanish and North Italian styles. There’s nothing else like it imo.

    Indeed, very good looking deck. More quintessencial I would say than Napolitane.

    You should do a video on the original spanish suit deck. I just bought one in Barcelona, a 50 card deck.

    I've always got the modiano brand but I'll try a dal negro deck

      Fantastic. Shuffling them is the biggest challenge, but you’ll get used to them and then never look back.

    Hello Chris,
    I really like your Videos about the different italian card decks.
    Which producer would you recommend for the sicilian deck? The Modiano or Del Negro version?
    Thanks.

      @Play-In-Games  Před rokem +1

      Thank you. I haven’t been able to get my hands on a Modiano version but I’m very happy with the Dal Negro one, if that helps. Thanks for watching!

    2:14 - why these cards aren't symmetrical? Are they piacentine?

    • @Play-In-Games
      @Play-In-Games  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Those are the aforementioned Neapolitan cards

    • @plrc4593
      @plrc4593 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Play-In-Games Hehe. I thought that is some old non-symmetrical pattern of Piacentine. You switch from deck to deck very often in those videoes and it's hard to follow. Could you put some inscription in a corner which deck you're showing or something like that?
