This is such a beautiful song. He wrote this song mainly for Rita for when he traveled on tour she would cry. He gave his friend Vincent Ford song writing credits for his family would be able to continue to have money coming in. Mr. Ford showed bob the rudiments of the guitars and he ran a soup kitchen, which allowed Bob and his musicians to practice on his premises.
V. Ford "tata" was a song writer too he wrote that song . as well as Positive Vibration Roots Rock Reggae and Crazy Baldhead .....he even wrote a song with bob's son stephen Marley called inna di red

Bob Marley wrote the song by inspiration and what he saw, he was standing at his gate in Trenchtown and a young girl came by with her baby in her arms, the baby was hungry and crying and Bob was patting the baby saying nuh cry, nuh cry and that's how the song came about

I think all of the songs from Natty Dread definitely says it all and has the original song of No Woman No Cry which was Bob Marley's most favorite song I'm really happy to know that the song of No Woman No Cry helpt with the local soup kitchen to keep it running what a very kind soul and a loving one besides as the story about No Woman No Cry which surprised me to know the background behind that song plus I think Bob was inspired by the song and put some key notes in his song of Johnny Was overall it is one of the best songs I have heared

I tell us, there are so many facts distorted already.
But the truth remains: No, Woman Nuh Cry was highly inspirational songs (just like ALL of Bob's other songs) and soul searching.
Something must have inspired the song, both in the lyrics and rythms (both the fast and slow - live versions).
The level of divinely inspired music of the time was simply awesome.
Robert Nesta Marley could have ascribed credit to whom he liked and based on reasons best known to him.
I have come to discover that Bob Marley's reggae music out to be studied with critical analysis.
If you watch the ONE LOVE Peace Concert of 1978, then you'll likely agree with me.

To be honest, I really think he was just singing about women in general. I never knew he was singing about an individual woman, man you learn something new every day. After all these years I had no idea, I'm not a prideful man, so hands up on this one. What a humbling moment, I really thought he was just addressing a global problem. This is one of my problem, whenever I hear reggae music. I actually think they are addressing people problems globally, speaking about the black family globally. In Europe I normally meet black people who are from the global family with the same storyline, maybe that's the reason why I have this mindset. Thank you for sharing, it was very educational, man a individual woman?

Maybe not about an individual per se, but the human condition. He sang about the sufferings in the ghetto, yet extols the brotherhood of sharing meals, working together to generate happiness, and painting the picture that everything will be alright. Think about tough times for students, workers living in crammed apartments in New York City, farmers in the field, truck drivers on the road, rich & poor folks at the crossroads etc.

Bob was attempting to extricate himself from complicated music contracts...Note also that, It was common for Jamaican artists back in the day to abscribe some writing credits to others to avoid paying exorbitant dues to government. We all remember Bunny Wailer's Classic recording, Hallelujah Time from the Wailers' Burnin' album of 1973, Credit was given to Jean Watts who was actually Bunny's wife (Who past away recently RIP)....How can we explain how Songs on Bob's Rastaman Vibration were credited to family members, friends, acquaintances and even his children....Read please read reviews for that album...

Vincent Ford never gave Marley any room.
The room belonged to ... (Name escapes me). He was a top music producer.

Vincent Ford was not the author of No Woman No Cry as the song copy rights are attributed to him. Bob was the author of the song but because of complicated contracts that required the ownership of his music up to 1977 when he signed JAD music inc in 1968.Vincent was a cook with no skill to pen a song. Reading any biography of Bob marley, you will not fail to understand this. After the death of Bob marley how many songs did Vincent write. Even after 1978?You are supposed to do research before writing things that are obviously incurate.

In addition, all songs, except one or two in the album "Rastaman Vibration" were legally attributed to other people close to Bob. By so doing, Bob was able to circumvent copyright complications as a dedication to his inner circle of his life, but he personally wrote songs in the whole album all by himself.

😢In one of Bobs interview ,bob said no woman no cry is the song he wrote on his hand and his idea , and the idea came when he visited his friend , there he found his friend in his ghetto playing the guitar while there was a little female kid at the doorstep and she was crying as bob s friend refused to allow kids in his ghetto when he practise guitar ......so bob feft sorry for a kid and ask his friend to allow a baby girl in , and as she was in , she kept on crying bittery and as Bob tried to keep her cool with a guitar rhythms saying no woman no cry , and there he got the idea of the song , from there it came a song NO WOMAN NO CRY . according to BOB himself.

I don't know why people always play the slow version of 'No Woman, Nuh Cry'. I much prefer the original version when it was the only version, back in the days. However, later, I started to hear this slow, meandering version popping up from time to time; to now being the ONLY version people play when I hear the song being played.
I kept wondering to myself, are they saying that the slow version is better? I, personally, don't agree. I truly love the faster, ORIGINAL version.
By the way, It was years later that I learnt that it meant, "No Woman, Don't cry", (nuh Cry). I always thought it was "No Woman no Cry", like if there is no women, then there would be no crying! But, it didn't matter to me what it meant. I just danced and enjoyed the music.
To be fair, and as a Jamaican, I should have realized that the second 'No', was really 'Nuh', based on how it was pronounced!. Anyway, life goes on.
It was a prophetic song prophets don't do things by themselves. It details the treatment of Rita his wife by him(Bob Marley) Unfaithfulness.

My great aunt,known as Georgie was a midwife in trench town. She would take the unwanted births home with her and raise them. Cornmeal porridge being a cheap filling staple diet of Jamaican people especially poor people,she would cook and share with everyone. Bob Marley would have known her and her work. My aunt is originally from St Thomas,one of nine sisters.
