In July of 1998 I had a very large 3cm fusiform aneurysm of the left posterior cerebral artery when I was 14 years old. It was thankfully found by accident because I started having a major headache with some visual disturbances. I went to the ER to get it checked out and last minute one of the doctors recommended I get a CAT scan, just in case. After that, they came back and asked for more tests with contrast. I knew then something was up. After a little while the head of the Neuro dept for my hospital came in and asked to speak to my parents privately, this is when I really started to freak. The doctor couldn't even look at us in the eye and instead stared at the floor and fidgeted while he explained that there was no way anyone at our hospital would even touch me because it was way out of their league. Thankfully I live only about 1-1.5 hrs from John's Hopkins, so I was sent there by ambulance because they were too scared of the pressure change of the med-evac helicopter. Dr. Tamargo was actually my surgeon and was absolutely wonderful. The odds(if I remember correctly I was told that I had less than a 20% chance of me making it through everything.) were definitely not in my favor considering the placement and mainly it's giant size, they were surprised that I didn't already have major vision issues. I just wished I would make it through the surgery alive and with no major deficits like not being blind, deaf or paralysed. Dr. Tamargo and his team did an amazing job and I made it through surgery and recovery with no major issues. I always recommend people go to Johns Hopkins for whatever medical issues they have, it's been the #1 hospital in the US for many many years for a reason, they are the best.

Dr. Tamargo clipped two small unruptured aneurysms in April. While they were small, my most recent imaging showed outpouching. That is a sign that the aneurysm was unstable. When the doctor got to them, he saw blood swirling within the aneurysms. The vessel wall was very thin. He estimated I was within two months of a rupture. My operation was on a Tuesday and I was discharged on Saturday without restrictions. Dr. Tamargo is a skilled surgeon. He is also very kind. During his career, he has performed close to 900 clipping surgeries. If you need neurosurgery, he is your guy and Johns Hopkins is the place to go.

I have been lucky to have been diagnosed with a cerebral aneurysm at 6-7 mm . My next step is to have a angiogram which will be in two weeks from now but my neurosurgeon has already said it needs a clip and they have to elevate my brain to get to it. It all sounds very bad but I look at it this way...it didn't rupture as of today. They will clamp it. I feel very fortunate that the found it and they with operation can and will control it. I'm a nurse and I know the risk of surgery but I am fully ready to take the risk than walk around with a time bomb in my head. Yep I'm going to lose some of my hair and maybe all of it but if that's what it takes to keep me alive then so be it. I feel lucky mine dud not go unnoticed and that I stand a very good chance of survival. Praise be to God.

@@Mamaosa63 Hey Marston, well i was experiencing a feeling of pressure in my head every time I lay down. In the past i have experienced visual disturbances where I couldn't see right. That would last about 20 to 30 minutes and then I would get a headache after it passed. But according to my doctors that had nothing to do with my aneurysm nor the feeling of pressure in my head. They told me usually people dont have any symptoms. I notice i had those visual disturbances when I was under a lot of stress.

So….I had a 22 mm fusiform cerebral aneurysm that was near the optic nerve on my right eye that did not rupture. I initially noticed changes in my vision, that morphed into double vision before an MRI was ordered. Listening to this video I am feeling quite blessed. I do still have some issues, partly worsened due to some significant stress that occurred 2 years post treatment. I am grateful to my neurosurgeon at U W Madison who performed the endovasular stent and coil placement. Today I am pain free and, except for vision issues, able to live a full life!

About to be 13 years on the 6th since my late sister, Sandra "Sandy" Stanford had it. It hurts to find that she's not here anymore, but here spiritually. She was a mom of 4 children, 2 boys, 2 girls, and 3 grandchildren. She was 46, born on January 24, 1963, and departed this universe on October 7, 2009, on one of my nephew's birthday. What a shame her short life ended tragically, 2 days after I spoke with her on the phone. I miss sleeping at her house on weekends when I was a youngster. About to memorialize her tomorrow.

Not necessarily messed up. When my sister died from a ruptured brain aneurysm, her neurosurgeon suggest her siblings and children be tested. They found that I had a 3mm aneurysm. Since it was so small, we decided to watch it through yearly imaging. Aftet 10 years, it showed signs of instability. My local neurosurgeon said it should be clipped. A second opinion said it was still small so we should continue monitoring it yearly. Since I had conflicting opinions, I went down to Johns Hopkins and saw Dr. Tamargo He agreed I needed surgery. When he got to the aneurysms (I had two), the walls of the vessel were so thin he could see the blood swirling within the aneurysms. I was a couple of months away from a rupture. Are you sure your aneurysm is 3cm and not 3mm? Huge difference.
