Great info. I have 2 small parcels with micro plots. One is 7 acres and the other is 5 acres. We took 7 deer this year to fill the freezer. Could have killed 10 times that. We draw the deer from all around us. It can be done.

I own 18 acres in Iowa. We are blessed to have a river flanking one side that acts as a travel corridor. We also have mostly big land owners around us that manage and don't shoot anything small. I put about 2 acres into food, and burned some CRP to make it more productive. We have a ton of deer and some big bucks. This will be the first year I can bow hunt it. Iowa has a period of time you need to be a resident until you can buy resident tags, so I sat and watched rut pass by last year. Should be a good hunting season.

I have 20acres, with 2 - 1/4acre food plots and a few apple and nut trees. Have a fair amount of deer. Would like to put a 3rd plot in this year. Thank you for all the information and videos, has helped alot.

I’m talking having a deer here all year round here in Harlan county Ky butted up against an old growth forest and it’s a smaller acreage than I’ve herd anyone mention but this small property has everything but the majority of it is huge dense forest but again very small spots for food plots but there’s tons of natural food and in the only person hunting or working there

Sometimes that’s the way to go for sure. Less pressure the better
I lease land. Owner won't let me drop 3" or larger trees. Our 1/2'- 2" diameter trees are 10'-15' tall. Now they are to tall for browse since the are no lower branches. Should I hinge cut then or cut them down to 2'. i want to create browse.

Depends but 80 percent of the time several plots are better then 1 big one. 2-3 would be the way to go for sure. Spaced out gives more chances of movement and less pressure on 1 plot
For the average guy with little time and money, a small property is actually great. A person can really go all out to make it the absolute best. We’d all love to own 500 acres in a big buck state, but realistically the amount of money and time it would take just to “transform” or even maintain the transformations would be a lot. I used to hunt a family farm that was 1000 acres, one of the best spots was just 17 acres made up of steep ditches, old apple trees, overgrown fields and low quality timber. If you’ve got high diversity and food in a small area with low hunting pressure, you can do a lot.
I agree dud. I try to make videos that relates to the average guy. Most of us have small properties 50 acre or less. Less pressure more deer.
I think your promoting the right type of thought, especially as land values increase almost exponentially. Don’t be discouraged with what you have, you probably have more than what you think! The community appreciates your content.
One other point that I think is important: just be happy to enjoy what you have. Sure, it might not be the social media monsters, but heck targeting the top 1/3 of the age class or maybe just anything over 130” in your area is absolutely fantastic. Don’t let the outside influences of scores influence your happiness, hunting is just too special for that.

Hi dave, I have about 18 acres and a 1/2 acre of food plot, my woods are mostly hard woods, no brouse, when I open that up how should I drop the trees try to do it one way or just let them drop anyway, also have 1/2 acre of hemlock, should I just take them out, and are you still doing live podcasts on sundays. Hey Wayne hope you are well. When dropping them I would just let them land where they land as long as they aren’t laying on top of each other and making to where the deer can’t move through it. You may even have to cut trails to open it up some. I wouldn’t take them out they can provide shelter.
I am still doing them yes I’ve just been super super busy the past couple weeks traveling. I’m trying to do one this Sunday.

I hunt 21 acres. Only hunt cold fronts and when the wind is right. Killed decent bucks about every year. Looking into some food plots this Spring.

I have a 40. I think long food plot trails connected to larger fields and good quality disease resistant apple trees and most importantly crabapple trees. Within 40 yards of stands is best for small acreage
That can work to. Although apple and crabapple trees are a very limited food resource. They are good when they drop that’s for sure.
@@Whitetailobsessionoutdoors in Michigan no baiting. So crab and apple trees in close relation to stands help ob seeing deer. Hard to beat red, white clover, kale, radish & chicory planted 3 weeks before top dressing and cereal rye and wheat. Close as I can get to 365 food with 1 mow and 1 spray a year.
For sure Travis they are a great attractant. Crazy about the no baiting laws going on. We can’t bait either.

My biggest issue with my small acreage is my plots barely have a chance to grow before the deer are mowing through it. Should I be making the plots bigger or have I not got far enough into video (posting at about the 5 min mark)
Lots of variances to be honest. How many deer per square mile and what you are planting and how big the plots are. Big woods settings you need to focus more of cereal grains/and or make bigger plots.

And I hunt on 10 acres and ive got video of over 10 deer on my property at one time. If you listen to Dave you get deer period.

No reason to feel dumb at all. I learn every min. If you aren’t learning your going backwards lol.
With sandy soil it’s just a matter of working organic matter into it. Planting rotations of buckwheat and winter wheat and winter rye. Working that into soil and over time it will improve. Jeff has done that in Florida for many many years working with sugar sand. It’s horrible down there
