I often get questions AFTER people have the card, because like you said they didn’t do their homework before applying.
I would add if a card comes with sign up bonus points, hotel certificates, special credits, etc. so you know exactly how you can use the perks in your life/situation.

I made the mistake of opening 3 desired cards in a one month timeframe. Then sold a vehicle and purchased a new vehicle one month later. Now I need to wait 12 months to age each new account
