I play in a Hard Rock Cover band. I've swapped my SH-5 into Black Winter. I can definitely say that Black Winter Screams. Especially Mids, The Articulation of strings are amazing. Artificial harmonics are screaming in every position.
I’ve always wanted to try the Custom in a 7 string guitar. It’s got enough output to where you could stick an overdrive in front of your amp and it’ll have all the gain you could ever need for a proper mix without letting you go entirely overboard with the gain. One of the best things about a medium output pickup like the custom is that it’s perfect for achieving the perfect amount of gain with solid state amps without the amp going overboard and clipping in an unpleasant manor. I’ve got an EMG H4 in a Jackson King V which is wound to around the same output as the Custom, and it sounds perfect through my Randall RG3003H. Super tight, articulate, and it retains it’s dynamic character when boosted with something like a tube screamer.
Both are great! I tested both as well in my guitar. - Black winter have a bit harsh highs (which I like) and more tight lows (nice for fast riffs). - Custom sounds bit thicker (which is nice for slow crushing riffs) Which one you like more?

These are both fine pickups but the Custom is my favorite Duncan. Been using them since 1986.
