I have always interpreted the head on the pole scene as Kellhus in the outside, and the head on the pole is his secure connection to the physical world. This is why time is all messed up in the scene. I believe the creatures are the gods or ciphrang, feasting on the meat of souls. It is written in such a deliberate way, that the POV is more an abstraction of a subjective experience. It always refers to the “you”. The reader essentially. And not written in first or third person. There are so many theories though. I find it a great effort at writing something as incomprehensible as the outside should be.

Interesting interpretation. It is a rather intriguing entity for sure. I'm very curious to see where the conclusion of the pole on the head goes :) I thought so far that Kellhus was the target of the second person PoV - but perhaps it is also (or only) directly addressing the reader - I'll have to reread those scenes when I get to the end of the series to see what I make of them :) Thank you for listening and commenting!

Head on the pole is one of the strangest and most crucial chapters in this series, it will become clear what the f was going on upon finishing the series(this is a lie).
It is the subject of endless theorizing, one of my favorite scenes in the entire series
    Your theories are very juicy.
Regarding the "living shall not haunt the dead"
Theliopa is the goat and Everyone wants kelmomas to die, very relatable
I love that we are 6 books in and we still have no idea what kellhus's end goal is.
IShteribinth is oblique, opaque and a bit of a slough to get trough(in the best way possible) such interesting world building and character moments happen inside those halls, some stand out chapters in there

I agree the head on the pole is a very interesting thread. It's among the sections I possibly want to re-read in isolation when I finish the series (the white luck warrior PoVs are another set of sections that may warrant such a reread :) )
True point about not knowing what the heck Kellhus is up to - I'm glad for the Kellhus PoVs now because it means there's a hope of finally finding out LOL
The Ishterebinth section was quite intriguing. I'm looking forward to more of those for sure!
