  • We originally met the Seminole County Fire Rescue team at the team competition portion of the Hazardous Materials Training Symposium in Daytona Beach, FL. There was a bit of a buildup to visit Fire Station #35 and their excellent training facility as it’s the 30th Anniversary of their Special Hazards & Operations Teams known as SHOT.
In the 30 years of developing their programs, continual fire truck apparatus evolutions, how their teams and stations are structured and with their ISO Class 1 rating - Seminole County Fire Departments has a program other departments can learn from.
In this episode we check out their primary hazmat fire truck - Squad 2 - capable of responding to all hazardous calls, structure fires, and tech rescue coming into Central Florida.
Squad 2 is a 2018 Pierce Fire Apparatus which is the third generation heavy rescue truck for Seminole County since starting their SHOT Program. This is an all-hazards truck capable of handling hazmat, confined space, heavy extrication, rope rescue, dive rescue, trench and structural collapse.
Next we visited the training facility with new firefighters for propane flare training with the The Red Dragon propane flare.

I like that you guys call yourselves “Special Operations”. With the disciplines provided to the community by that team, it is well deserved!
