The play "Yuru Pon" is a gripping historical drama inspired by true events that took place in Kham Lithang in the early 1950s. Set against the backdrop of Communist China's invasion of Tibet, the play follows the courageous journey of young warriors such as Yuru Pon, Pon Choenyi, Pon Jamyang, Pon Dorgyal, and many others who valiantly fought back against the invaders.
The play "Yuru Pon" holds a significant place in the history of Tibetan in exile. It was first performed by TIPA (Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts) on July 29th, 1964. The original title of the play was "Dotoe Tamchoe."
In 1981, the renowned director Jamyang Norbu reimagined and directed the play, leading to its second performance.
Another memorable rendition took place in 1994, under the direction of the late master Jampa Lungtok. Although there is no complete video recording available, a clip from the last show was captured on a VHS camcorder by DIIR (Department of Information and International Relations).
This historic play continues to be a tribute to the brave warriors and a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Tibetan people.
