MAGOME: 1600's Japanese Village

  • Walking around Magome is like going 400 years in to Japan's past. After centuries of neglect, this forgotten relic of Edo era Japan has been restored to its former glory. Hop in the time machine with me as I explore the town's water wheels, hike to Magome's sister village (and equally historic) Tsumago, and stumble upon a centuries old tea house in the middle of the forrest. Magome is one of the most unique places I've ever visited and I'm excited to share it with you!

Such an enjoyable video. So envious of your beautiful meal, which looked incredibly tasty, and I loved seeing all the unusual food and the dishes in which it was presented. I actually felt like I was there, but I think I'd have trouble with the bed!

2 serious questions : (1) Which did you like better, Magome or Tsumago? (2) Which was more scary, bandits or bears?
Even more seriously, I really envy your walk in the deserted streets after dark.

      1. They actually felt quite different given their shared past. I didn’t spend more than a couple hours in Tsumago so it’s hard to judge. Tsumago felt less touristy than Magome.
      2. Bandits are scarier, bears won’t take my iPhone.
Being alone in town like that was one of the more surreal experiences I’ve had during my travels. There’s very few places where one can be by themselves in such a beautiful spot.

The bus schedule was a bit confusing so for a moment I thought I’d be stuck there 😳

No offense to you by any means that so many people spend so much time filming their face with a backdrop of the location they are filming. It gets lost in the background.

E do...えど Ma go me まごめ e is always short in Japanese...unless it's i which is pronounced ee い

My advice is less of your face and more of the location.
