Toyota Sienna 2011 sliding door won't open. Door thinks gas door is open Cause spring fell off latch

  • The sliding door won't open as it thinks the gas door is still open. The cause is a spring that has fallen off the latch that is located in the lower track of the sliding door. Once the spring falls off this leaves the latch in the up positions which triggers the sliding door to not open past a few inches.
    To get to the latch the sliding door needs to be slide open about a foot. The latch is located in the lower sliding door track towards the front.
    Step 1: open gas door
    Step 2: push in the button located inside the gas door and while pushing in the button pull the sliding van door as close to you as possible. This should allow you to access the lower sliding door track where a plastic cover will need to be removed to access the latch spring that has fallen behind the latch.
    Step 3: after removing the plastic cover look behind the latch for the metal spring that needs to be slid back over the latch. If this is in fact your problem the spring being back over the latch will hold down the latch and then your door should work just fine.

    I got my cover off and the spring is in the right position. I think either the spring behind the stopper is broken or just stretched out. I'm considering cutting that wire and removing the "Safety" feature altogether.

      Will cutting the cable solve the problem and are you able to just open and close the gas door manually?

  • @marylittlefield9091
    @marylittlefield9091 Před rokem

    So after you do what you’ve said to do can you still
    Open the gas tank door with the cable and not have the latch stay stay up?

  • @TamNguyen811
    @TamNguyen811 Před rokem

    Is there any way that you can lubricate the cable?

      It will get stuck like that. Try Pushing the gas cover lid closed while sliding the door closed. Its the same issue its just now jammed onto that stopper.

  • @aboumayzaramayzara2682

      Sounds like a tricky situation- be careful. Luckily I didn't have to get into the wiring. Sorry I couldn't help on that one.

  • @johnwayne397
    @johnwayne397 Před 2 lety

    This still doesn't work for me why I push the button and pull the door and it still don't work I can't even get the door opened up to see the freaking hook

    • @marylittlefield9091
      @marylittlefield9091 Před rokem

      How did you end up fixing it?

    • @johnwayne397
      @johnwayne397 Před rokem +2

      @marylittlefield9091 it was the hook I found it, I took the covet off at the bottom and saw the hook to the gas pump safety thing sticking up and I unscrewed it and threw it away don't need it it just stops the door from sliding back to the gas pump, I could've reset it but nope not gonna happen again, it has some kinda spring/paperclip kinda thing got got misaligned that I coulda just realigned but I pulled it like a tooth

    • @marylittlefield9091
      @marylittlefield9091 Před rokem

      Ohhhh. Ok. So after I do that I can just open the door to the gas manually to fill up and just close iand it will stay shut?
      I am very happy about this.
      Could I also just tape the hook
      Down with duct tape instead of unscrewing it?
      Thanks! This has been a huge problem for me!!
