Robin Hood yessssssssss. The legend from my home place 🙏
That movies great to! Definitely excited for it!
Hello nick
Love you Nick!!
OH YES! It's the Disney version of Robin Hodd right??? Thank you so much Nick!!! Would you watch Peter Pan It's awesome!
Here's how brilliantly this movie was made:
Gothel only ever shows Rapunzel affection in relation to her hair. Instead of kissing her cheek, she kisses her hair. Calling her "my flower".
In contrast, when Eugene is doing the same, he actually pushes her hair out of her face.
Who is Eugene? I forgot.
@@TheNeighborhoodsSilly flynns real name
I love those little touches, they really make the film
Eugene is a prince.
Something I only just noticed despite watching this gods knows how many times....one of the first lines Gothel says to grown up Rapunzel, is quite literal: "I'm not getting any younger down here".
1:30 Nick: 😀
“This is the story of how I died”

Mother Gothel is so manipulative, gas lighting Rapunzel with backhanded comments and fear tactics to keep her inside, any sort of 'affection' is given to Rapunzels hair, like kissing her on the top of the head etc. She doesn't care about Rapunzel at all, just the hair, and it's so sad. You'd think that, after 18 years of raising someone, you'd grow to care for them. But nope, not Mother Gothel.
Well she's hundreds of years old. She's lived tons of lifetimes so I think that definitely contributes to her being inhumane.
@Alice Lanterne Uhhhh......no.....the part the teens and young adults being nicer then most folks isn't actually true. Most of them are on tic tok twitter doing very stupid and cringy things that will end up following them like a bad stink when they get older, also being fake activists pushing things that are very unreasonable and absolutely insane, calling people a racist if they don't have the same opinion, screaming in the faces of people, laying their habds on them.....etc. There was one young man that stabbed his own mother to death not too long ago. It doesn't really matter HOW old you are you can dress yourself up as a rose but a turd is still a turd. I remember this one girl was talking about punching racists and I asked her "So how would that actually stop him from being racist?" She had no answer....because all you've done was hit someone you did not change their point of view.
My first time watching it, I honestly believed Mother Gothel loved Rapunzel like a daughter
I love how neither the King nor Queen have any lines, but we know EXACTLY how they feel based only on their animations!
I recall hearing about how they had a different start for the story initially:
It was along the lines of the king having the flower and Gothel wanted to use it too, but the king didnt want to share so she stole it. To little surprise, test audiences sided with Gothel over the king. ;)
@@CptApplestrudl gothel was using the flower till the king stole it and used it for the queen. And good for freddie, i hate him so much
Yep, was nice to see the king sad. Can't say the same for the queen, she's amazing
BTW, her tears healing him, it's like in the original story where Rapunzel heals the Prince's blindness with her tears.
I think her tears reverse time just like her hair. It is actually part of the song
Yes
Have you ever seen the movie Quest for Camelot? The original book it’s based on is pretty messed up 😭
I just realized that it doesn't really make sense for the villain to die when the hair is cut when technically she still has powers. Like why did she die?
@@cambriatevis6907 i think it is because the hair kept her young and prevented her from aging. And the power Rapunzel had in her tears didn't 🤷♀️
It’s not too often where the villains main “attack” in a Disney movie is gaslighting them
Frollo , Scar and Ursula: "Am I a joke to you?".
@@PikminandOatchi frollo and scar? Yes. Ursula? Barely
@@Loonlings Ursula does a fair amount of gaslighting too.
It’s also rare when the princess has parents XD
Scar does a lot "if you wasent there the king would still be alive" "i would not want to be to blame for the death of a family meber" he always trys to let simba feel guilty i know its not exactly the words but i translated from knowing mainly the german dub
urusla does the "why even speaking the men up there dont like talketive woman" its just plain lie to manipulate less then actual gaslighting
gaslighting uses two main things first is guilt second is making the person feel week and unable to do things on their own
urusla is talking ariell into it so if all she tries to make ariell confident that the girl can do it under this false conditions
while gaslighting is about "you cant do that" or "you cant do that without me"
Nick: it's such a fun-filled adventure
* Rapunzel and Flynn are almost drowning *
Fun fact:
In a interview with Flynn Rider's actor, he said that one of reasons he took the role was for the hopes to the movie be in a Kingdom Hearts game since he is a big fan and in Kingdom Hearts 3 it happend.
Cool
Oooo that's great
Wow! That's a nice fun fact. That's awesome to know
I didn't know that, now I feel like buying the game. I don't play kindom hearts (only did when I was younger) anymore, but this is a good reason to buy kingdom hearts 3. I'm grateful for this piece of information.
Ooooh when I tell you I squealed with pure delight when I found out Zachary Levi was a kingdom hearts fan 😻
I only just realized that the horse recognizes who she is IMMEDIATELY, I always just thought she just calmed him down but I think it’s really intentional that he looks her dead in the eyes and immediately follows her orders
Wait you're right!!
I've watched this movie at least 50 times over the years, and I thought he just liked her because she was nice to him!
That's pretty clever, honestly
Nah cuz why did I never realize this 💀
Why did I never realized this?
oh wait yes that true : DD !!!!
What the f***
My favorite detail: when Gothel hugs Rapunzel, she holds her arms out and makes Rapunzel come to her. But her real mother as soon as she knows it's her goes in to hug HER instead!!!!
Fun fact: The voice actor for Rapunzel is Mandy Moore, the mean girl in Princess Diaries.
Who knew that a bratty mean high school girl would go on to voice a beautiful fun-loving goddess of a Disney princess! 😆😍
She was also the nice sweet girl in “A Walk to Remember”. ❤️
I must be old because I remember her most as a pop singer in the 90’s 😆
@@nowthatisawesome5431 And another mean girl in Saved!
@@jonathanwallis3300 Mandy was a pop star long before an actress though :) she was part of the 90's pop princesses. There as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson.
Part of why she looks 13 is that Mother Gothel is so afraid of her beauty and power giving her confidence that she keeps her in a too-small dress (look at how short the skirt and sleeves are), abuses her, nitpicks her appearance, and she shrinks into herself as a result. That and the lack of sunlight, fresh air, and adequate exercise.
Spoiler Alert : No wonder Cassandra didn’t like Rapunzel when she betrayed her.
Oh, I never noticed that.
I never noticed the too-small dress! I also like to think that the power of the golden flower keeps her naturally young and healthy, since it's part of her (or maybe it also affected her whenever she sang the song?).
Oh wow I never noticed that the dress was too small 😱
@Morgan Yakko fan
Well that and she thought Rapunzel was the reason Gothel abandoned her own daughter for Rapunzel.
The curtain that Rapunzel uses to cover up her painting of the floating lights is made from the same material as Gothel's dress, representing how she's literally shielding her from the outside world.
I never noticed that 😳
My husband watches this movie for one reason, and one reason only: the horse.
Your husband is a man of culture.
@@Queen_Sakura he is, indeed!
Maximus is all kinds of awesome.
One of my favorite things in the movie is Flynn/Eugene's expression during the I've Got A Dream song. It always makes me feel like he's thinking "... I'm in a Disney movie, aren't I?"
To which I would reply: “Yep. This is actually happening. 😊”
This movie is actually really important because it shows ppl what a toxic relationship looks like. Especially between parent & child even though that's not her real mom.
Honestly, the fact that Mother Gothel isn't Rapunzel's real mother kinda diminishes it a bit. Mother Gothel is evil, but that's okay, because she's not her REAL mother. Her REAL mother is totally perfect. IRL, while this does happen to adopted or foster children all the time, I'd say it happens to direct familial lines even more. My own mother by birth acts much the same way, using emotional bullying against me and my siblings.
It's a great message, and for Disney, a huge step in the right direction. However, overall, it's still a Disneyfication of a real issue.
@@WisteriaDrake my mom is toxic. So ik. In fact she's almost exactly like Gothel.
@@WisteriaDrake Disney didn't invent tha story and it's based on fairy tales, like most of their stories. It's an archetype and allegory, like in that fairy tale as well. Try to read more into that. Her biological mother, you can argue,is not her real mother, because she is a strenger to her. the thing is, it shows, that someone who raised you can still be not your real mother, because real mother wouldn't do that (real, not biological). True mother is someone who will treat you with respect and will wish you best.
That's not dinseyfication =_=' Original fairy tales had always real parents as abusers btw. Always. In all cultures. BUT later it was changed to stepparents (for example, in original Cindirella story it was her mother that treated her poorly, in original Hansel and Gretel it was real mother who asked her hsuband to get rid of their kids when in modern version it was STEPmother), because of christianisation.
Please, stoptreating Disney like their invented everything when,in fact, they created NOTHING. Stories they are telling are based always on something. And troubles with parents and the myth that biological family always loves you and is healthy and you should respect your elders no matter what is SOCIAL myth, CULTURAL myth and "TRUTH" we want to believe. What Disney or any other franchise creates just mirrors that. Nothing more. Society is more aware of the issue, Disney will also mirror that. We believed many things before Disney was even created. We made our stories like that.
Also the fact that the “bad guy” is a beautiful woman is refreshing
My mother LOOKS and ACTS like gothel it‘s kinda funny.
When the king sheds a tear before they release their lantern and the queen comforts him, it gets me every time
No joke, I started crying in the theater when the dad cried.
The parents make me cry too and they never even speak for the entire movie.
You're my favourite react channel. It's refreshing to see someone so positive that watches everything in awe and points out all the great things rather than just making fun or picking things apart. We need more positivity like this in the world!
Aw thanks so much, I’m glad you like them!
Yeah, when you want to get someone to watch a movie, you really don’t want to see them insulting and belittling it the whole time. So many reactors don’t seem to get that, but this channel is a relief.
Yeah, definitely need more positivity.
i agree
Gothel is one of my favorite Disney villains. She’s like Lady Tramaine in that she doesn’t have some big grand scheme of world domination or whatever. She just has control over this one person and what she does is just awful. The amount of gaslighting in this film is kind of astounding.
Any actual affection is always directed at Raps’ hair, even the nickname Little Flower. She doesn’t see Raps as her own person. Just something she has to keep around in order to stay young.
My favorite line from her is actually: “You want me to be the bad guy? Fine. Now I’m the bad guy.” It’s just… really good delivery.
I see you're a fan of the TV show. ;) I'd know that nickname anywhere.
This looks like an inspiration to Billie Eillish
Lol
I don't know if people understand the meaning of "This is the story of how I died". Yes, he does technically die and comes back to life, but the meaning is about Flynn dying, and Eugene being reborn. It's about his persona not existing anymore.
Best part of this movie has to be the animal sidekicks.
The chameleon is adorable and the horse has so much personality- gotta love em.
We have animator Glen Keane to thank for Maximus’ expressions.
Both Maximus and Pascal are way too awesome to be mere animal companions.
Rapunzel's hair is 70 feet long, and they animated it strand by strand, like Merida's from Brave.
Hair simulation. They don't animate them by hand, otherwise it would take forever to finish. They had to invent an algorithm that made it behave more like cloth because it kept glitching and getting all over the place. With Merida they had to create a spring algorithm to get her curls to work.
@@JiReyAnimation I know it wasn't done by hand. It's 3D animated.
It's funny to me that you ask if Rapunzel has long hair in other versions. XD When basically, her long hair was THE defining trait of her in the original fairy tale. But then again, I grew up with Grimm's stories.
There is even a small amusement park in Germany, with several attractions representing the different fairy tales. in Rapunzel's case, there was simply a huge tower with a window. And whenever you approached it, you saw the long hair coming down.
DUDE, I have to go there! That sounds awesome!
@@hmsmith1790 Yes, it's kind of amazing. There's also the Frog Prince's well with a golden ball rising from the depths, as well as a huge wolf statue that you can walk inside, with figures of Red Riding Hood and her grandmother sitting inside.
Where is the amusement park? I mean in which city
@@nuura4786 I can't quite remember the town's name, it's been a very long time, I was just a little kid back then. But there are a couple of small fairy tale parks in Germany, so there's a pretty good chance you might stumble across one if you go there.
LOVE Rainbow dash
Mother Gothel is such a realistic villain, although this is probably why she's not as popular as some others, a bit too close to home for some (Frollo is the same way). But I gotta say, in her youth she's pretty hot.
Seriously, when the king cries, I cry every time. The "acting" in that animation is flawless.
Yay, the best modern Disney-movie in my rankings :) Rapunzel and Eugene have the amazing chemistry and growth, both as a couple and individuals. The soundtrack is amazing and the plot very creative. Mother Gothel is one of the best Disney-villains (again, because there are so many people like her in the world and it's terrifying) and "Mother Knows Best" is the song that I hate to love because the lyrics are basically about her belittling and abusing Rapunzel, but it's so catchy and well-arranged that it is almost impossible not to like it. Its' reprise is even better than original to me. "I See The Light" is the best romantic song and scene Disney has ever done, in my eyes. Maximus and Pascal belong to my favorite Disney-sidekicks as well. When you mentioned "THBOND", it reminded me how similar Quasi and Rapunzel are. Frollo and Mother Gothel would possibly get along well, I think... thanks so much for this reaction.
There’s an artist on deviantart that has a Disney high school art series and Frollo and Gothel are married and Quasi and Rapunzel are their kids. Edit: the comic artist name is Morloth88
Frollo would probably hate Gothel for her being a witch
@@LuisGustavoSO possible, but in this artist's adaptation they just normal people. Like Triton is a CEO and Yzma is principal of the school. It's a really cool, recommend checking it out.
@@forestcatkay14 i love this comic!!
Fun fact: Her hair does not just heal. Actually, it turns back time on a person or an objects status. She even sings it "...make the clock reverse." This is especially interesting regarding the series - Which I absolutely recommend cause there is so much more to the whole story.
When I watched this during lockdown last year I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.
The kingdom is called Corona and it's about a girl locked up without contact to anyone and bored out of her mind .... relatable 😳😢😂
Mother Gothel is a perfect example of what it’s like to grow up with a narcissistic mother. She only cares about herself and her own feelings and she gaslights and manipulates Rapunzel to feel bad about having her own opinions and needs. This movie is great, I love your reaction!
Mother Gothel doesn’t love Rapunzel she loves Rapunzels hair for the magic it has to keep her young.
The only person Gothel ever loved was Dr. Octopus.
My favorite song 🎵🎶 is “I See The Light.” Very romantic
Me too.
Mine is the one where she sings in the tower “When will my life Begin”
I’m not sure if you noticed this but in the beginning of the film the king and queen’s lantern is the only one that has the signature “sun design”. When Flynn and Rapunzel are sitting on the boat and one of the lanterns almost touches the water and she lifts it up, it was her parents lantern that she touched. A cool little Easter egg if you will. Also it’s been 10 years+ since the first time I’ve seen this movie and I still haven’t forgiven Flynn for cutting her hair that short
Cut him some slack, he was dying, didn't have much strengh left and frankly I think Raps looks cute with short hair.
I noticed this too - amazing moment. So emotional!
@@anib8863 yea I get you he was tryna save her and didn’t have time to think about length but I’m still mad😭they have matching hair cuts
I know it's a late reply but him cutting her hair that short is supposed to be symbolic. There is more to her than the beauty of her face and her hair. If he were to cut it to like shoulder or middle of her back the impact and symbolism wouldn't have been so strong if that makes sense.
This movie hits close to home for me. I was very abused mentally and physically as a child by my adoptive dad and my mom just ignored it.
But I found out a few months ago that my real dad is somewhere from America. I don't know anything about him, but I'm happy with that. I spent most of my life thinking that I was a horrible man's daughter and now that I know I'm not, I'm just relieved and happy.
Of course I would absolutely love to see my real dad, but if it's not in this life then maybe the next :)
As a child who never knew her dad finding out he is deceased,i hope you get to meet your dad in this lifetime🙂

When Will My life Begin?
Or as I call it: the international quarantine anthem.
And yes, Rapunzel is one of the handful of lucky Disney characters to have both parents alive! In terms of princesses, she joins Mulan, Merida, Moana, and Aurora in the club!
I swear, Tangled is iconic. The rest of the cast is also iconic in this animated film. The songs are all pretty memorable even until this day. Has it been eleven years already? I can’t tell.
Tangled is not just one of my favorite Disney movies, it’s one of my favorite movies period.
FYI, Rapunzel is voiced by Mandy Moore, who was a pop singer in the late 90’s before turning to acting.
There is also a tv movie and 3 season tv show. The movie is Tangled: before ever after, which has to be watched before the show. And the show is called either Tangled: the series or Rapunzels tangled adventure. It's amazing and has the original actors, with some Broadway actors thrown in.
It’s both of those titles. At first it was titled Tangled:The Series, and then for the second and third season, it was titled Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
One of my favorite shows
Mandy Moore absolutely kills it as Rapunzel, and Zachary Levi is amazing as Flynn. Such great voice performances, and amazing chemistry
Tangled is a great movie) Although the conflict between Rapunzel and Gothel actually looks very similar to the abusive relationship of Quasimodo and Frollo)
Although Rapunzel thinks Gothel is her real mother. Frollo told Quasimodo he was abandoned. It's only at the end when he mentioned his mother died trying to keep him safe. And Rapunzel, or course, is able to go back to her real parents.
Expect that Frollo and Quasimodo relationship is way more darker than Gothel and Rapunzel. Frollo is making Quasi feel bad about himself.
we can see how old mother Gothel is by the dresses,
Mother Gothel dress is simple and one-piece, with a belt at the waist, she may be from 1100s, although she does not wear any hair accessories of the time
we can notice that Rapunzel's dress is inspired by dresses from the 1550-60s, With a whale bone corset and puffy shoulder sleeves, her skirt is parted from the top and is seen to have accessories to add volume
the most difficult begins in the town
the women wear bonnets, the dresses are also with volume, shirts with baggy sleeves separated from skirts
Men's hat and non-breeches knee-length pants style, Long jackets, waistcoats, and baggy hats are hint of a town from the mid-1700s
maybe 1750-1780
The biggest problem to find a date is the parents of rapuzel, the mother wears a style similar to Rapunzel, from 1550-60
but the father looks more from 1620 and the army uniform also makes me think of that time
so we are going to leave it in 1750-80 (with some old-fashioned rulers XD)
so we can say that mother Gothel lived about 600 years
Fun fact: The Kingdom in this Movie is called Corona. I'm not making this up.
If I remember correctly, It means Sun in latin right?
Well, Corona means crown.
Like the virus. Kind of.
@@duduteixeira7736 The "corona" is the glow that surrounds the sun and other celestial bodies.
When I think Corona I think of year of isolation, so very fitting to rapunzel lol
Mother Gothel is a VERY realistic abuser. I know because I had the exact same one my whole life (obsessed with immortality too). I'm glad that Disney teaches kids to recognize toxic guardian figures in their lives.
The floating lantern scene is one of the most magical scenes in any Disney movie, right up there with Aladdin’s carpet ride scene. It’s amazing.
Unfortuanatly Gaslighting is a very real issue, and Mother Gothel is portrayed perfectly as the worst type of gas lighter. its sad that people like her actually exist
Super glad you enjoyed this one, it's one of my favorites as well. Her parents always get me in this movie, and are a beautiful example of how much emotion you can convey with animation alone, as they never speak in the entire film.
Fun fact this movie has an amazing sequel series on Disney+ filled with amazing characters, songs and animation should check it out when your finished with your current shows.
Also more adorable Eugene and Rapunzel scenes
The Little Mermaid ushered the Disney Renaissance era, Tangled is the one that ushered The Disney Revival era. Such an underrated movie that's always overshadowed by Frozen. I think this is better.
Mother Gothel’s voice actress is a prolific Broadway performer, she does such a fantastic job bringing to life such a wretched character!!✨✨
Today is my birthday, and I’m so excited that you watched one of my favorite movies! Keep up the good work!
Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday!

Probably my favorite thing about this movie is the very inventive idea of the Golden Flower and how it ties everything together. Gothel actually has an motive, a proper reason to keep Rapunzel locked away in this story. This is kind of a plot hole in the original fairy tale, where Gothel's motives are pretty much grossly simplified as keeping Rapunzel locked up just because she can. Here, Rapunzel obtains healing powers and rejuvenating properties from the magic of the Golden Flower, and these powers are also channeled through her tears, which in turn makes sense of the original fairy tale ending, where Rapunzel healed the prince's eyes with her tears (apparently in fairy tale land tears work as a cure for blindness, go figure). This movie is pretty much the definition of the phrase "Canon has been stripped and mined for parts".
The boat scene with the lights is possibly THE most beautiful Disney scene ever created, paired with the song! I usually watch Disney movies in English because I feel like emotions can be expressed better in English, but for Rapunzel I actually prefer to watch it in my mother tongue German. For one, the original story is German and the setting is Germany and secondly „I see the light“ in German sounds so gorgeous :) Also I couldn’t agree more with you, definitely one of the best character chemistries in Disney history 👍🏼
YES! Tangled! Oh, I’m so excited to watch you see this! The portrayal of Mother Gothel is really well done and the romance is amazing here too!
OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE YOU REACTED TO THIS I’M SO HAPPY... IT’S MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER, THANK YOU SO MUCH NICK ❤️❤️❤️
The Kingdom Dance song is in my opinion the best song Disney has composed and that’s against the greats from Atlantis, Treasure Planet, and Hunchback which have my favorite soundtracks. It’s a song that feels perfect for the era. The imagery, the transition of time, and everything else just makes that a nigh perfect sequence.
Oh my god, you'll love this movie! It's one of my favourites!

This has always been such a fun and good movie! Love your reactions so I can’t wait to see this one!
Honestly, as someone who has experienced manipulation from a parent, I know how hard it is. But you have to remember to stand your ground and not let them control you. Family or not, no one can tell you who you are but yourself.
This, THIS is real Stockholm Syndrome! Where the victim has feelings for their captor. Doesn't even need to be romantic. In Beauty and The Beast, this is flipped. Beast started getting feelings for Belle.
The original story of Rapunzel, from what I can remember, is that a poor couple needed food. The wife was pregnant and the husband went into a garden and stole from a witch. The witch caught him and in exchange for letting him have the food she wanted his first born child. Once the child was born they mournfully had to give up their baby girl, named Rapunzel. The witch raised her as her own and kept her locked in a tower far from the eyes of others. There was no way to get into the tower for strangers and as the girl's hair grew longer, the witch would call, "Rapunzel, let down your long hair!"
One day, whilst on a journey through the forest and the witch was away, a Prince stumbled upon this castle. The two of them chatted away and fell for each other. (At some point the Prince figured that he could ask Rapunzel to let down her hair) The witch was none the wiser to their romance and Rapunzel wanted to leave with the prince. However, eventually the witch caught them. The prince was attacked and honestly I don't remember much of the details afterwards but I know, the witch was killed or something and the Prince saved Rapunzel and they got married and lived happily ever after.
Im so GLAD you finally reacted to this movie. This is one of my most favorite disney movies ever , besides all the old classic disney movies , this just does something to me . Mandy moores voice is stunning

fun fact
you know, there's a theory that mother gothel is actually the Evil Queen from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". This theory is supported by the fact that the two characters have an ambition to be beautiful and young, being even capable of killing people to get it. In addition to the two stories, Snow White and Tangled, set in Germany, if we remember correctly, the last appearance of the Evil Queen in the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was like an old woman, just like mother gothel appears at the beginning of "Tangled".
edit: forgot to mention, the easter egg of an APPLE in this scene , over Eugene 49:38
Fun fact! The lantern that Rapunzel saves from hitting the water is the one her parents released 🥰 it’s the only one with the sun symbol on it, whereas everyone else’s lanterns have their own unique designs on them
I’d like to recommend The Dark Crystal (1982) It’s very underrated and I believe you’ll like the music and the wonderful set design. Plus if you like it you can check out the prequel show on Netflix.
Now that I think about it, I'm surprised Mother Gothel told Rapunzel when her actual birthday is- or what birthdays are at all
I guess she was just that confident that Rapunzel would never leave, so she didn’t bother lying about it 🤷♀️
My guess is she wanted Rapunzel to feel special and see her as this great mother so that it would lessen the chances of her leaving, so she told her about her birthday and how the lights practically honored it.
@@livvworm Who would have guessed that her parents would make a firework display on the date?!
@@wwoods66 pssh yeah. And let’s be real, Gothel, being Gothel, probably never even noticed the lanterns or at least acted like she didn’t as not to encourage Rapunzel’s theories on them
Your birthday was last year.
When this film came out it was the most not just animated, but the most expensive film ever made (which has since been surpassed), but cost 260 million to make.
The voice of Hook Hand is Brad Garret who you can hear in other Disney Pixar films like Finding Nemo and A Bug’s Life,
Ask any animator and they will tell you the hardest thing to animate is hair.
As a counterpart to the appealing and cute design of Rapunzel, the directors wanted to make Flynn Rider "the most handsome, most attractive male lead Disney has ever had." They held a large "Hot Man Meeting" where they gathered about 30 women from the studio and asked them what they considered attractive in a man. They brought in hundreds of images of their favourite male actors and celebrities, which were torn and pasted back again. After much deliberation, his look was eventually narrowed down to one concept drawing
One of the few Disney films where both parents are alive. Also there is an easter egg in the Snuggly Duckling n the rafters is Pinocchio.
There was a follow up tv series that follows adventures with Rapunzel and Eugene and in case you didn’t notice at the end Eugene says “after years of asking and asking” so it wasn’t one of those things where they became married immediately.
The music was done by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater who would do the music for the series as well and because of the show Alan Menken finally won an Emmy completing his Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony wins. This film was nominated for Best Animated Feature (lost to Toy Story 3), and was nominated for Best Original Song for I See the Light (which it didn’t win either).
-One thing I need to point out is Gothel never loved Rapunzel at all. She only used her for her magic power. It was all just an act to make Rapunzel stay there.
-The reason Donna Murphy’s singing is so great is because she has been on Broadway for a long time.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I'm so glad you hadn't watched this movie after all!
Let's face it. We went from "How come you haven't seen this movie?" to "I hope he hasn't seen this movie yet." 😆
Hands-down the best Disney princess movie.
You can‘t see it in this clip but at 42:29 Rapunzel is pushing the lantern from her parents above the sky. It‘s the one with the flower (sun) on it.
I’ve never clicked on a notification so fast! I’ve been wanting to see your reaction to this movie since I found your channel, but I thought you already watched it, too. I’m so excited for this reaction, one of my favorite movies ever!
The woman who plays Mother Gothel is Donna Murphy. She's an extraordinarily talented stage performer and has also been in a lot of films, including a dance-related film called Center Stage (she plays one of the dance teachers). She's so natural with her performances; I really like her. And yes, she's got a great voice (even though she's eeeeeeeevil in this film, lol).
34:27 She means she likes the real him rather than the fake reputation. As always, you are a joy to watch!
My husband took me to see this movie for a my birthday and later took me to the park next door where we had our first date and at the very spot he first asked me out, he proposed. It’s been 8 years since we married. 12 years since we’ve been together. This movie means a great deal to me so I’m glad you were finally able to enjoy it. 🥰😁
A lot of people compare Mother Gothel to Frollo from Hunchback of Notre Dame. They’re both villains who keep the hero locked in a tower, won’t let them leave because of how “dangerous” the outside world is, and lie about their parentage.
This was based on the fairy tale “Rapunzel” but they titled the move Tangled to appeal to a wider audience. In the original fairy tale, Rapunzel’s parents aren’t royalty and when she was pregnant, Rapunzel’s mother started craving the rapunzel plant growing in their neighbor’s garden, who happens to be a witch. When she won’t eat anything else, Rapunzel’s father steals the plant for his wife to eat but when she wants more and he sneaks into the garden again, the witch catches him and spares his life and allows him to take as much of the plant that he wants in exchange for giving her their baby once she is born. She ends up taking her, naming her Rapunzel and locking her in the tower that’s only accessible from climbing Rapunzel’s hair. Eventually a prince comes across the tower, sees how the witch enters it and, after she leaves, does the same and ends up meeting Rapunzel. They fall in love and plan an escape from the tower so they can marry (he would bring material for a silk ladder that she would sew together). Before they start the plan however the witch finds out about the prince (in different versions it’s either Rapunzel accidentally telling her that it’s easier to carry the prince up with her hair than the witch or Rapunzel noticing that her dress is tighter around the waist and the witch figuring out that it’s pregnancy) and as punishment, cuts off Rapunzel’s hair and banishes her from the tower. When the prince comes back, the witch tricks him by letting down Rapunzel’s cut hair for him to climb and when he gets to the top, she tells him that Rapunzel is gone and let’s go of the hair. He falls into a bush full of thorns that blind him and he ends up wandering around blind for years. He eventually comes across Rapunzel’s voice; Rapunzel, in some versions, has since given birth to twins, a boy and girl. She cries over him and her tears heal his sight. They and their twins then live happily ever after in his kingdom while the witch is stuck in the tower with no way to get out.
Little fun fact; the lantern that Rapunzel saves from hitting the water is her parents; it's the only one with the royal emblem
Fun fact: you can actually see Rapunzel and Eugine in the very beginning of Frozen, when Anna open the doors to the castle.
Still my favorite Disney animated movie. "I See the Light" is one of the best staged scenes in animation history. The actress that voices Mother Gothel is a well known Broadway actress, hence the awesome portrayal and singing voice. Loved your reaction. This movie should have been the hit that Frozen was, but for some reason, it just didn't catch the public's eye. Usually, when someone who has seen (and loves) Frozen gets around to seeing Tangled, they're usually shocked at how much better it is, than Frozen. It's also way more emotionally charged. Loved your reaction!
You should also do tangled the series as it explains a lot of stuff from the movie
The dancing scene in the city is also one of my favorite Disney moments. I want to have this score at my wedding and want to dance to it with lots of colorful flowers as decorations 🏵️
Technically in the beginning Flynn/Eugene mentioned the movie is about how he died. He technically died in the end but came back to life... so, he wasn't just joking around. Also, Rapunzel is supposed to have 70 feet of that hair. Scientifically, 17-18 years is too short for hair to grow that long. And Pascal has the cutest faces!!! Not sure if you read these comments but your videos are great!!![insert smiley emoji(emojis don't show up on my computer)]. I know that the movie I'm about to suggest isn't the most popular but I think it's very underrated. Mirror Mirror with Julia Roberts and Lily Collins. It's funny yet beautiful. There's also the movie, "The Longest Ride" but that's a more in depth movie that Disney. But again... not too sure if you read the comments. Back to the video comments, "Mother Knows Best" is one of the most back-handed compliment songs from a villain, subtle villainy!!
I find it kind of funny how Disney is usually seen as super kid friendly and censored despite having some of the most messed up villains with pretty gruesome deaths
I'm so happy you watched this!! Tangled is one of my favorite Disney movies of all time!
As someone whose real life parents are like a combination of an introverted Gothel and Lady Tremaine for a mom, and Gaston and Frollo for a dad, all the Disney movies with abusive parents/guardians hit home for me. Also, in personality and my former family role, I am Elsa.
You have to appreciate the moment that Rapunzel's parents' lantern comes floating across the water to their boat and she lifts it back up into the sky... I'm In Bits...
That silent little scene with the King and Queen before the lanterns go up is the fastest way to make me cry. The look on his face, the love and terrible sorrow just palpable between them destroys me in two seconds.
Oh hey there, you Nick fan who's reading this. I have a story for you.
40:38 = Somewhere on CZcams, someone said that the emotion of the queen and the king here are wonderfully animated. Here and in the last scene, they don't say a word, and yet, both their facial and body animations are just flawless, and you can feel their emotions pierce through you instantly.
Also, a little more personal note, on that one scene : I think it's a significant choice they made here. The king is crying, not the queen. Read it as you want, but I think it's both cuter and a little more heartwrenching.
Is there a chance to put Tangled the series as a future reaction series? Because is really good show, expands more the lore of the film and It take place before the proposal at the end of the film. If you do, you must watch the pilot movie before going to the series, because it is important.
And everyone’s spoiling it in their very comment section lol
@@Neevkl_7 I KNOW, RIGHT? What is wrong with people!
Rapunzel’s parents have to be put on Disney’s best parents list. They never had anymore kids and they always thought about Rapunzel. They lighted lanterns on her birthday in her honor in hopes of her seeing them and coming back. Which worked and she saw them.
I don’t recall if you’ve already seen Brave or Rise of the Guardians but as you have seen HTTYD and now Tangled. I’d suggest checking out a group known as the Big Four, it’s a rabbit hole you will never want to get out of. But defiantly watch Brave and Guardians beforehand
interesting detail about the tower. Gothel's room has a door while Rapunzel just has curtains across the doorway. She never had a way to keep Gothel out
Thank you for the reaction 🤗
Maybe next you should watch Frozen, Rapunzel and Flynn/Eugene actually appear in that movie too
i think one of the reasons i love this movie so much is because they don't fall for each other instantly, they get to learn about each other and go through stuff together.
also mother gothel is a great villain because she is a realistic threat, she gaslights rapunzel her entire life and has no second thought before literally stabbing someone.
Tangled is such a good movie. I watched it so much when it came out that I haven't seen it in a while. I kind of forgot how amazing it was.
“I’ve Got a Dream” is not only a fun song, but I just *love* Flynn’s look at the fourth wall. “Is this really happening? I’m in a Disney movie? 😓”
My goodness.. i never thought i could enjoy a reaction to Repunzel this much in my life!
I enjoyed watching every second of this video and im so glad i stumbled up on your channel.. I's such a joy to see u appreciating it! Thank you for the great and trully wholesome content!!
I've seen this movie several times. I KNOW how it ends. So why? WHY, I ask you! Why do I cry. Every. Single. Time?
yessss thank you so much for reacting to this. its literally my favourite movie
