12:59 Thank you James for this statement. I often see teenagers in western countries enjoying their life with great amount of privilege. Here in India most of the teenagers know nothing other then studies. The parents and environment is all set to make them slaves of their studies and then jobs. It's now common to see students collapsing because they were not slept and just doing their studies. Also their life is way harder then western students, they don't have facilities to study. They learn, get degrees, roam here and there for jobs and finally get into tech assembling factories, assembling i phones and stuff 12 hours a day for another country. So, yeah to my western friend: when ever you see an Asian celebrating his countrymen's achievement pls don't think they are flexing, they are just happy for his hardwork and sacrifices.🙏

Moving to the states when I was 19, I found a job and started working hard as much as I could. I bought my mom a car, some beautiful bags, and stuffs that she deserves to have. I'm still trying to buy her a house and I believe working hard can help people to get what they want. I believe in you, James. People cry not because they are weak so don't say sorry. Also, I want to thank your mom for not giving up and for raising you into a good person that you are today.
You're such an amazing person and your mom did a great job raising you! I totally agree his mom is awesome! You keep going and thanks for sharing your story!

You're such a special soul, James. You've lighten a little spark on me to do better. I also have set big goals for me, but for many reasons as self depreciation, depression and anxiety I've stagnated myself for a long time. But I am willing to be a better person for me specially. It's hard living in my skin sometimes and I wanna change that. I love you. Thank you for this. God bless your family and your future!
Hey James I just wanted to come here real quick and tell you that I used to study with you thru your 12 hour long videos and I was preparing for my mcat during the pandemic and now finally I am in a Med school I never thought I would be able to make it but I did so thank you for motivating me 💗
im a 38 year old guy struggling with motivation after losing my whole career to covid. father of a 13 year old, and im trully inspired by you. My father left me before i was born and i know how that can make a bitter grown up out of you. i got very emotional watching this video. thank you
I'm a very introverted person, but seeing this guy put in this much efforts to connect himself more with people who misunderstand him makes me want to tell this story. So just like a lot of other people, I was watching yt, scrolling through random videos and I came across his channel ( like 2-3 months ago) In the first phase, I always watched him sit and do his stuff for like half an hour and I would just leave. I had zero motivation and stuff. I would just pass my days like this while having zero motivation, and wasting all of my time. Even though I didn't sub to his channel, his live would still pop up on my yt feed. So just like any other day, I was watching him do his work but that day, this dude had an exam. Here comes the *LEGENDARY* (at least for me) part. So it was break time according to the stream but he was in the middle of the exam. I thought that he won't talk in that break but guess what, dude was talking with chat during the break. So everyone started asking him, if the paper was easy and stuff, and he said "yeh pretty easy, finished 75% of the test already" even when it had only been like 20-30 mins. This THIS goddamn became a wake up call. When I saw this I felt like, bruh I also wanna do this. I wanna reach that level too. See, in the end HE IS A HUMAN and I am one too. If he can do it, why can't I? That's what came into my mind. Seeing how he was so chill during his exam, even having time to read the chat and stuff. I felt so prickled by that, so jealous. I did not take that jealousy to start hating him, I took that jealousy to start working and push myself towards being productive because I wanted to be like that too. I started watching his stream after that, I couldn't sit for more than 3/4 sessions (whereas I was able to study for like 4 hours straight without any breaks before the pandemic, i.e. like 1 yr ago.) I introspected so much as to how much this online lifestyle ruined everything and the one to blame for it was ONLY me because it is not like everyone became like this, no. There were people who still did what they wanted to do everyday, just like James. That's why I hold myself responsible for being this way. I was so god damn distracted, even if I sat and studied for like 3/4 sessions, I still remained so distracted. I had to clap every now and then, to regain my concentration. With time, I gradually started studying with more concentration and for more hours. I also look forward to 10 hours of study everyday! So from this story, all I wanna say is even if you're jealous of the fact that you aren't as capable or as focused as he is with his life and goals, that doesn't mean you have to dislike the video and spread hate, you can take motivation from him and push yourself forward or you can think that I wanna beat this guy and be more productive than he is! That's all. Thank you James! Hwaiting! :)
He inspires me so much. I'm 19 and I've wasted my whole life on watching random videos that bring no value into my life, that lead to me being extremly undisciplined, unmotivated and a whole lot of regret and selfhate. As someone who has walked a familiar path (computer science), I absolutely understand your perspective. And I agree with you, money is very important to achieving many goals. But at the same time, as someone older(30) and wiser, I've learned that doing something merely for money will bring a mediocre life. I really urge you to keep searching for something that truly gives you a reason to live. Don't be afraid to get on a new path. Sadly, I don't think I've found that for myself. Hence, I'm still in the software engineering industry. Which is fine, as long as it is an means to an end, not the end itself.

I honestly have so much respect for what this guy is doing. I'm 16 and currently in my last year of secondary school as I'm from the UK. I'm currently studying for our end of school qualifications and I honestly realise now how important hard work is for success and how rewarding it can be. I honestly regret not realising how important hard work was when I was younger, but then again I'm only 16 so I shouldn't really feel bad about that. This man is smart. He's angry and passionate about many things, and these many things overwhelm him. But he organized himself and saw a path past that and committed to that. What confirmed this for me was that not only did he cry because of his past, but because he understood and accepted his inability to be able to be that light. And because of this, he became a light even if he didn't realize it. What a guy.
@Shimmy Shai you can always expand your knowledge in many ways, unless of course you have severe learning difficulties. It just takes discipline, concentration, and consistency.
@Shimmy Shai you need output what you read/study/see to really learn... if you keep just inputting things in your head, you will keep forgeting. output things is really discomfortable, but it's the best way to learn things and know what you really don't know and need to focus to learn a concept. feynman technique is one of the most discomfortable way to learn, but one of the fastest and effective way to learn... if you put your soul in do it. Information we have everywhere, what will make you smart is the quality of your output.
@Shimmy Shai you need to process each concept from the book and output it. you don't need to remember every word in how it was written. one concept can be shown in innumerous ways. The book is only there to help you understand some concepts, if you can't understand from the book, you need to do some research to understand until you can explain it (output it)
@Shimmy Shai I would recommend active recall. You don’t need to memorise a whole textbook to do well in an exam. What you have to do is be able to apply your knowledge to an exam question. I would recommend starting off with a question, build your knowledge around that and then answer the question at the end of your study session with no help. Repeat this. If you don’t continuously recall the knowledge you will forget it.

@@aGenericBanana it might sound cliché, but that’s your story to discover. I was a drummer back in the day, and I pushed as hard as I could for 3 years. However, you have to find why you want to do what you do, and what you want to become in the future, and stick to your beliefs. In my case, I was arrogant and pursued success with a selfish mindset. true bro i also got burned out and unmotivated due to 5 hr of study... i understand that i was forcing myself to study which is not good , we should find the inner meaning of what we should do..
Keep the hammer down man. I wanted to program when I was still a teenager but I quickly got frustrated and gave up, feeling like I was "just not smart enough" to program. I didn't learn how to foster a serious work ethic until I was in my 30s (I'm 39 now). In the span of the last 5 years I've gone from knowing almost nothing about coding to getting hired as a full time software engineer, and contributing to one of the most popular open-source projects in the world. I had built up a lot of self-taught computer knowledge over the years, which definitely helped, but I had to really grind to actually get hired in a software dev role. I just had my first kid, a baby girl, and I want to make sure she has the best chance possible to achieve her own goals and be a shining example for her peers when she grows up. The world we're in definitely seems a lot more harsh and self-centered than the 90s when I grew up, but I'm glad to see there are younger kids out there with this level of self-awareness and drive. Keep at it man!
As a university student, I honestly respect James so much. I’ve tried doing studying for more than 8 hours a day but I couldn’t keep up. The fact that he did it for 12 hours a day for a year is absolutely inspiring
@Shimmy Shai this, I respect this dude but different people have different methods. Not everyone functions the same so like we all are working hard in our own ways
No worries if you can only manage 8 hours a day, we all go at our own pace and James advocates that too. He and you too are inspiring and working towards your goals and that's what matters! Keep it up!
@Shimmy Shai To answer your question, both will obtain their goals. It isn't about the time put into studying, it's about the effort and focus it takes you to retain the information you are learning. We all learn at varying lengths and even different subject matter require varying times. For example, it does not take me long at all to study history or English grammar but mathematics is a different matter because I don't grasp maths as easily. Also, we all have different learning styles or ways in which we learn best, some learn better by listening to lectures, while others learn better by reading books, others have to do something active like pace as they review notes. What matters is finding what works best for you, it isn't about how long you spend studying. Also, studying isn't about competition, it's about what you get out of each study session. You put in the effort and take as much or as little time as you need. As an educator, I have seen some students hardly open a book yet retain the info while other students have to put in long hours. Just find what works best for you.
Gary Vee is not what he shows. He does "hustle" and work hard but he careless next to none for his employees. They all complain about his behaviour and bad work environment. Hustle isn't everything and the hustle culture is very damaging.
Do you think that makes him happy? He said that he was a recluse earlier, that people make fun of him etc. I bet he'd exchange 12h/day studying for a pack of friends, but he can't get that. So he convinced himself that studying will get him there. But he will end up as a clog in the machine anyway and no amount of programming knowledge or money will change that.
This video singlehandedly changed my current outlook on life. You are one of the most real people I have ever seen. Please keep being true to yourself like this. You are an inspiration, and someday your kids will be so proud to have someone like you in their life.

Because they also want to do what you do, but they don't have the discipline to do it so it is easier for them to bring you down to their level than to work their way up to yours. At the end of the day it is all about following your inner voice and doing what matters to you. Keep doing what you do!
The part where he pointed out that the people who watch his videos are mostly minorities whose only shots at living good lives is getting good grades increased my respect for him. Not everyone is privileged enough to rely on AP classes and a GPA which you can improve even if you've messed up. We dont get to do projects that require stand alone thinking. In the end it boils down to how much you can memorize, and it's not an easy task if all of your textbooks are 1500 pages. So, if you feel like 12 hours is too much, then I'm glad that you're able to achieve your goals in a lesser time period. But you have to be in place of privilege if you get to prioritise your social life over your education.
Hey man, as a working tech lead / architect, I can very much relate to your hustle. I went through the same struggle in my early 20s and it definitely paid off. Your channel is very inspirational, because you're now in the midst of it and I can really relate, thanks for making the vids :) It's all going to work out if you keep at it, best of luck dude :)

Tough times hit you hard all you can do is stay calm wait for moment and punch back harder that it can't stand again

I understand your situation. Money is one of the most essential thing to me. My father is a fish vendor in the Philippines, I have four siblings that are younger than me. That's why I've tried my best to do great in school, and be persistent in commiting my goals because that's the only thing that will save us from poverty. I felt so sad when the privilege individuals are degrading and making fun to the productivity of the other people, they don't understand us. I support u bro 👊 keep reaching for your dreams.
As someone residing in India I can attest to the fact that most students aged 16-18 do live a lifestyle quite similar to James...its quite depressing to experience it firsthand....
Yes yes!!!... this thing was in my head from fast few days...finally someone said it. I too feel guilty af for not studying like him in my 16s and now I'm in my 17s feeling i have laid behind so much that i can never ever cope up now. This is so depressinggggggg.

Wow James, I stumbled upon your video thanks to CZcams's algorithm and put it off watching it because of the length. But man, I'm so glad I did! You're literally inspiring! I have been trying to achieve some of the same goals you talk about here and you have motivated me to keep pushing. Although I do disagree with the studying +12 hours as I've seen in many comments, mainly because I wouldn't have time to eat, shower, exercise, sleep and spend time with my family which is something I really value because someday they won't be there. I think we should try our best and work or hardest in all areas of our life and not just one. But props to you anyways if it works for you! Keep doing what you believe in! You'll be a great father someday I'll assure you, and I hope I'll be a great parent someday too. Best regards!
Really helped me expand my vision on studying as a whole. Here in Australia most men are expected to start their life around age 16 so being able to get insight like this helps prepare me for that. thanks man.
James is such a beautiful person inside and out. Thoughtful, smart, kind, hard working... whenever I listen to him speak, there's a sense of warmth coming from him. Definitely inspires me to cultivate and nurture these qualities in my own character
I’m starting University in 3 weeks and have been sort of nervous about the studying side of things. I can sit, listen and retain information quite easily but when it comes to studying, I was brutal. Don’t think Ive ever studied for more than a couple hours in one sitting. I remember Junior year It got so bad that for every hour I studied, my dad allowed me to have 30 minutes to play video games, because for whatever reason I just couldn’t do it. That’s how little motivation I had and looking back on it, its pathetic. I’ve matured a lot since then and your videos have helped me tremendously in redirecting my mindset. I’m ready to push myself and not break easily like I used to. Fuck the haters, you’ve inspired so many like me. Keep it up brother.
Everyone should take into account that the more hours you study per day doesn't always give you a good result. This is something subjective, as James has mentioned, it is something that cannot be quantified. So each person has their own study style, maybe for James studying 12 hours per day is the best, but maybe for someone else 6 hours is the optimal amount. Find your own style and stick with it.
@Eddie Jiyo Yeah, Richard Feynman was a rockstar, great teacher. I like how he viewed physics and mathematics. I think your friend is interesting, reminds me of Dirac, someone who almost didn't speak with others and spent most of his time studying and researching physics.
never stop brother what ever it takes !!! you r a pure inspiration for anyone who wants to work not only studying, go ahead and get those things for ur family and yourself !!
This video was 2 years ago, but every time I wanna give up, I don't wanna work, overthinking, and I watch this video again and everything you said that made me think about my goals and try hard one more time. ❤️
Yes, I'm from India and I totally relate to what you're saying. I don't know about the critics but I'll speak for most of us over here and say you have brought a great change in us. You've touched many lives. Thank you.
Yeah Indians love James.(seen every Indians in the comment section inspiring him) I want to be like him. He is an inspiration and a hardworking person. May he get everything. Kid without father or mother is really heart breaking. We cannot imagine their pain and sufferings .
James, thank you so much for sharing your daily routine and thoughts, it's a tremendous modulating environment , and this is very important for people who want to perform in high levels and achieve their goals. If you see it in 15 - 20 years, maybe they can solve their lives, maybe milionare and retired. And also help their family. Study, go to the gym, go on a diet this should be the normal.
Hi James, I'm also a kid raised by a single Vietnamese mother and having you as a role model has really helped me. Mental illness and other factors have come in my way of being disciplined throughout high school, but your videos have made me try harder to improve myself because seeing someone else do it means that i can, too :) i think that you're a kind and admirable person who has a lot of self-awareness and humility; those are qualities that I want to embody too. The community that you have created through studying is so amazing and to me is a safe space where I feel like people actually believe in each other and want each other to succeed. i know that you will go far and achieve your goals. thank you for being you!!
Thanks James, for opening your heart like that. You're inspiring. I come from a similar background, living in Latin America, living without a father figure. However, I choose the other path. To fill my hole with woman, games, alcohol, weed. And now, In my 25 years old, I'm trying to change it, but it is so hard at times. You gave me an extra perspective on how to face life. Thanks.
I just found your channel and checked out some of your videos. You are so down to earth and inspiring. I love the video format where you just speak your mind, it feels so much more genuine than a video with edits and cuts every single second. It calms me down but in a way that I want to be productive. Can’t wait to see more! You are doing greate! Don’t let people with a different mindset slow you down!
Thank you, James. This is my go-to video whenever I'm not productive. I'm from a third world country, and I want my parents to live as easy as possible in their elder years. They never had a rest in their life and I want to be exceptional in my field of engineering. I can't thank you enough, James.
James - when I saw your "how I sutdy 12 hours a day" video, the first thing I did before watching it was check your channel. When I saw that you've been livestreaming this every day for a year, I went back to the video and watched it all. Whilst it's motivating to see you do this, it's also something else: it's you proving that you can do it. That's what was far more effective. You didn't just make a video on how you studied for 12 hours, you have literally been at this day-by-day for a whole year, you've got proof of work right here documented on this channel. Everyone will warn you about burnout, and it's a good warning. But ultimately, you know what's going through your head more so than a stranger in a comment section. If you're able to keep doing what you're doing, then don't let others who don't know you sway you the other way. Everybody's different. Best of luck with hitting those goals man, you deserve it 🙏
james you are the reason im inspired to become the best version of myself. Everyday i wake up i try to push myself as hard as possible in order to make my parents proud one day.

I'm a very introverted person, but seeing this guy put in this much efforts to connect himself more with people who misunderstand him makes me want to tell this story.
So just like a lot of other people, I was watching yt, scrolling through random videos and I came across his channel ( like 2-3 months ago)
In the first phase, I always watched him sit and do his stuff for like half an hour and I would just leave.
But yeah... working hard is difficult and there's a lot you have to sacrifice but it's worth it and nobody should criticise this guy.
I hope your GCSEs are going well, I needed to watch this video to motivate yourself and I’m just saying I’m proud of you for recognising this at this stage. Even though this may seem really difficult we’ve had the privilege of loving teachers and faculties left and right so we can feel happy and privileged and grateful for this place and opportunity especially compared to a lot of countries. keep that as a motivation for your studies and work to do well with everything you have, it would be unfortunate to waste it :) good luck and push through these last two weeks

I really admire him. But as Jordan Peterson said it : when your father figure die you must become the father.
No one like this comment I feel like being immature 😂
@Shimmy Shai you only need the key info and important parts of the book. Make sure you’re aware of what you need to know and what you don’t.
Your video really touched me....watching u get vulnerable in front of a camera and collecting yourself back up.... all your dreams and aspirations... why u work sooo hard..... how u want to deal with the big hole in your heart by being a great father yourself someday. (Im working on that everyday) Find what you like, what you enjoy doing without anyone asking you to do it, and never forget the why.
Also, try to always give your best, but also balance yourself with a healthy lifestyle so you don’t burn out like I did

It sounds like james listens to his future self rather than living on today's emotions which keep him going which makes up his drive.
this is unbelievably people hate some one who working harder for his or her own goals
"I get very upset when people try to suppress people from hard working without realizing that that's what makes that person happy." - Gary Vee

People hate on you because it makes them insecure. Because they also want to do what you do, but they don't have the discipline to do it so it is easier for them to bring you down to their level than to work their way up to yours. At the end of the day it is all about following your inner voice and doing what matters to you. Keep doing what you do!
Wow

I want to be like him.

Bro u r so inspiring, you such an angel...your mindset is awsome!!! be blessed bro! Love..
Hi James,
I'm also a kid raised by a single Vietnamese mother and having you as a role model has really helped me. The community that you have created through studying is so amazing and to me is a safe space where I feel like people actually believe in each other and want each other to succeed. i know that you will go far and achieve your goals. thank you for being you!!
you're inspiring bro! you have a dream and you're achieving it, nobody can hate on that.

Best of luck, you got this!
good luck to you❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Good luck bro, I'm from second world country in Europe but my mission is the same I wanna set myself, my parents and my family for a better future!
❤️❤️
You can
James - when I saw your "how I sutdy 12 hours a day" video, the first thing I did before watching it was check your channel.
Best of luck with hitting those goals man, you deserve it 🙏
Aye James Jani is here too! Let's go!!!
"you are proving to the audience that yes it's possible"
EXXXXACTLY BRO
What's a burnout?
i am a big fan of both, thank you!
Holy fuck didn't expect you here
Followed your videos for a while now. Your an inspiration. I’m 41 and you inspire me to be better.
james you are the reason im inspired to become the best version of myself. Everyday i wake up i try to push myself as hard as possible in order to make my parents proud one day. Im preparing for IIT-JEE entrance test which one of the toughest engineering exam here in India but i wont give up until im done
"People are saying this because they want to make themselves feel better". This is actually true they're trying to make excuses for them being lazy
The guy is studying computer engineering, since when do engineers sleep? Why is this new?
@@Fakiestrafes1012 Wha
@@Fakiestrafes1012 Yes, but he is not a working computer engineer. He is a student. In the majority of students, he stands out as an exception
@@Fakiestrafes1012 He is an exceptional student. He wants to master his craft, that's why he studies a lot. He doesn't just want to start a company and make money, it's not that easy.
Also his studying approach is of course, probably not perfect but he is working a hell lot more than most people ever do. Stop judging someone's hard work just ' cause you know better
Imagine if all you do is study and you die tomorrow what can happen. you died a virgin. without traveling. without eating nice things without believing in god because all you did was study all your life. What a shame :( you have to enjoy life too, you can die at any moment and having studied so much is not going to do you any good. Everything in excess is damaging . Not only are pills drugs..........
