I have spent 46 years as a manufacturing troubleshooter for Rolls-Royce aerospace. In my early years, I watched I’ll be panels make all the body panels for the XJ 220. I think my experience gives me the right to tell you that this video and the work you did was of the absolute highest quality I have seen. Your skills are remarkable. The English wheel work is fantastic as is the hand manipulation. I was a welding engineer for many years and did a lot of the preproduction welding for the RB199 engines for the tornado. We obviously don’t use aluminium in the engine industry but I avidly remember trying to weld aluminium as an apprentice, and it’s bloody difficult because I was just chasing holes! However, if you ever want to weld some exotic materials, Nimonic, Titanium etc - I’m your man! One thing that puzzled me, was, it appeared you were welding from one side, without any argon backing on the back , don’t you get a cokey weld on the penetration side? I expect you are welding from both sides aren’t you? In the aerospace industry we only weld from one side I can only think of one joint that we ever welded from both sides. Thank you for this video. You are a true artist. Well done. I am in awe of you.
Our backgrounds are similar. I was the engineering manager for both BFGoodrich and uniroyal, for tire design in Canada. I also ran welding and fabricating shops. His workmanship is right on, I'm impressed...
That's how is was built in the sixties !
Thank you for the amazing comment. I am very much a novice and really appreciate your positive feedback!
I welded the aluminium from both sides, but it was a massive learning curve for me ( very hard)

The skill this man has is insane, I couldn't believe my eyes through out the video..
You, sir, are not only a skilled craftsman, but also an artist of the highest caliber!
I’ve been a auto tech and car guy since my teens. I’m now 60 years old and sad that I never learned of at least attempted to learn these skills. People ooh and ahh over a painting from some dead guy which is fine but you sir, I am completely blown away! This is what REAL ART IS! It’s a living and breathing visceral experience. I kind of compare it to a fine watch. A watch builder assembles a watch with precision and great care and the final piece is to start its heart beat. It comes alive. I have watched this video several times and every time I’m even more impressed. You are an artist. A true artist.
Wow thank you for the kind message. I am a huge admirer of watches and watch making, so being compared is a massive compliment for me!
Has anyone ever put their finger through an english wheel?
Fantastic to watch this mastery. Thank you.
not fun😂
A work of art and real skill and talent.
Thanks!
A true craftsman does not need high end tools to produce a masterpiece. You have the highest skill and ability that I have ever seen! Incredible talent!
Let's not simp
I’m off outside with a hammer, to redesign my car. Seems straightforward enough!
What an absolute craftsman. Patients and skill in the extreme.
Stunning is a very small word next to that aluminum confection! Although there is really no color but BRG it could be, the raw metal was awesome to begin with. FR
INCREDIBLE skills! Wish I had. Thirty years ago, I got a ride around the track at Silverstone in a real one, also drove through the Cotswolds in it. Started to rain at one point. We simply found a quintessential pub, removed the seat cushions, and had lunch! Also got a ride up the M1 from London to Stoneleigh, near Coventry, in a real C-Type.
Sounds like unforgettable memories 👍👍
Absolutely incredible work.
.
What is even more incredible is it appears that the same woman is visible at the beginning and end of the video LOL.
Hahaha. I was able to keep her around throughout the whole build😁
The beauty of the English wheel is how it forms the cubic cyristal structure of the metal making it stronger that normal pressing
"NICE" you say!!! When I say "NICE" I'm being extremely sarcastic....... Seriously that's beyond amazing. I'm assuming that's not your day job, so finding the time commitment enthusiasm energy etc to build a project like that is bloody awesome.👍👍
Умопомрачительный объем работы!! Результат супер! Восхищаюсь вами, вашим мастерством обработки металла!!!
Hello! Am 63 body and paint man, I srarted at 11. With an uncle's friend. I don't know if is enough to say ,THANKS. The World Need More People Like You. Thanks.
Thank you! I started this channel for that exact reason, hopefully it can inspire more people to fabricate and restore beautiful cars and projects.
As someone who knows how difficult aluminium can be to work with, I salute you!
Umm. did I see a stray Messerschmitt? V8? Kidding!
WORK OF ART . DONT NEED TO SAY ANOTHER WORD.
Love the luggage storage area in the headrest!
just WOW respect. love the colour British racing green perfect
I never hit a subscribe button so fast.
It is a good morning when Donny uploads such a banger. But... how did you weld in the hood louvers without distorting the hood ? I guess it wasnt hard for you...
Hehehe thanks for that! I had tremendous problems with distortion and worst thing is that I found out after the fact that the original cars louvres where rivited into position and not welded 🤦🏼♂️
the devotion....2700 plus hours...amazing
This guy is an artist.
From the UK 😊 and it is painted in BRG well done ! Jaguar racing would be proud of this car
That's very kind of you, thanks!!
Incredible! A wooden block and an English wheel and he's got an excellent long lasting body. Probably would've added clear coat, and a steering wheel.😁
From zero to something they call beautiful..
All done by your hands..
Brilliant...by far.
Simon a Brit in Spain 👍
i don't know if i'm more impressed by the skills or by the fact that he hasn't changed clothes for 2716 consecutive hours.
Staggeringly brilliant, I'm just blown away, ever wondered what a panel beater does? You do now.
Thanks Peter!
Straight up an artist's work
Donny, I have to say I watched every minute of this video and as someone who has restored & rebuilt a few Jaguars E Types & XKs this is a work of art. To build this D Type from
scratch with just a DIY English wheel and a hammer and dollies is nothing short of amazing, I don‘t use the word craftsmanship often but in your case it is spot on the money. I am
really enjoying the camper build even though I have no real interest in RVs but to watch your plans come to fruition is remarkable. I would love to know what you think of some of
my builds so if you get a bit of spare time please let me know what you think. As a subscriber i look forward to seeing what you're up to in each video. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave. Thanks for the message! It really means a lot when a fellow fabricator has such good things to say about my work😊.
I'm very excited to go and check out your channel (I just subscribed) as I'm always looking for new content to keep me motivated! Kind regards
@ Classic Car Dave
how should one expect any less from a guy who irrefutably has what it takes to actually hand build his own F1, BTW, you got a new sub here and I will most definately be checking out 'your' builds - thanks for the connect .*.*.*.
One of my favorite videos of all time. Absolutely awesome.
Well sir, I don’t need to be a ex Rolls Royce manufacturing trouble maker to know you do great work. Fibreglass……yuk! Beautiful car
there's me thinking i had some skill making a scale model spitfire, this guys like 'hold my beer'
Not the 1st time you've used an english wheel. Beautiful craftsmanship
I'm alone at the office slow clapping to your video. This was insane. The British racing green was the cherry on top. I honestly kept pausing the video and saying "no waaay" to myself.
Someone is Super Clever . Awesome Workmanship.
❤ the Color . Work of Art 🎨
Industrial Be-dazzling!!
Wow we need more like him to teach the young,
Sir William would be proud of you Sir!
And finished the build off with a mug of tea! You'd fit right in to the English motor industry, if we still had one.
Wonderful work.
Just popped up on my feed, that was FANTASTIC!
I just came across this video, today. It is April 8,2024, I tip my hat to you sir, one beautiful job.
Almost a sin to cover that beautiful alu-work with paint… Impressive, anyways! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for fully embarrassing my deep skillset. While at the same moment insulting my strong work ethic. Very impressive work done in a traditional manner. Stump and hammer. And I thought mankind was doomed.
That should be driven hard then hung up in the British museum.
Amazing.
Respect.
I like that idea
I clicked the like button 3 times, brilliant!
Some serious skills right there, well done!!!
23 minutes of absolute bliss to watch. The skill, attention to detail and experience really comes through. What an awesome build!
That car is AWESOME. one of my fav model Jaguar
That's some dedication, Mate. I hope you're spreading the 'you can do it' word around. It's great to see someone doing something fantastic.
Thank you! I feel strongly about that quote. It only takes some dedication and a bit of stubbornness😁
i want to see it driving, with the sound of the engine ! Cheers Chris !
Very soon
How much respect deserves a man? In this case: All we can give!
thanks man!
Subscribed.
Greetings from Finland!
Impressive!!!!! A master stroke using the fibreglass body as the “former”!!
Phenomenal
A work of art by a true artist
Just one word : incredible.
Beautiful! Absolutely, really beautiful. Artwork. Would love to see it in person.
I really enjoyed watching you work, and If you slow it down. I would have watched every minute of it. No matter how long it would be... Great work..
Crikey the patience and skill to do that is beyond my comprehension.
I actually watched this at quarter speed. Just amazing. I had expected a 'state-of-the-art' high tech workshop and saw an english-wheel, a jig-saw and a selection of hammers. Amazing.
Thank you! Still working on the state of the art workshop😂
Just one word, beautiful you are a master.👍👍👍
Fantastic outcome! Donny, I noticed your comment regarding the hood louvers and I hope you don't regret or fix any deviations or blemishes. The car isn't a replica anymore, it's a one-off that will always be known as "your car", and it will always be judged on its own standards.
Wow thank you for the kind words. I always try to build replicas as close to the original as possible and (obviously) don't get it exactly right, but what you said makes me look at the deviations a little different. Thanks!
I am in awe! What an exquisite creation. The level of skill involved in this build is off the scale. Such a beautiful piece of work.
I watched this at 0.25 speed and would've slowed it to actual speed if I could. Amazing!
Thank you!
REMARKABLE! This is an example of the process and the man who did it exceeding the product.
Bravo! Well done. Darlington, South Carolina USA
Thank you!
This what I call a restoration! Not one of those fake rebuilds where they “find” a piece of junk and spend ten times it’s value on spares just to make the video to get paid!
I have nothing more than ADMIRATION for your skill…!…absolutely stunning!
Thank you! Cheers!
No power hammer and shinker tools only hand made =) Respect
Damn Danie, that colour is soooo deep. You've done this car a solid favor by doing what you did. I hope that I get to see it in person when it's done and not locked up in a garage collection somewhere..
Thanks Gary. I was very apprehensive about the colour but it really came out looking absolutely amazing! The owner is so excited about the car, I think he will defenitely be going to every car show he can. Otherwise you can come for a private viewing😁
How can one man have so much Talent!?
I have just watched this, I can not believe my eyes a work of genius does not cover it.
Ye should be Proud of yourself amazing job, don't no why it hasn't had Millions of Views thanks mate 👍
I have been auto body collision repair for a very long time....I would clean the bathrooms and sweep the floor just to be a part of that type of quality workmanship. Great job son
thank you
"Amazing Amazing Amazing work"
Without doubt the most beautiful creation I have ever seen anywhere. Your sheet metal skills are second to none and a credit to all concerned, love the D type.
Amazing work, D-type unlocked 🙂
Next achievement: P-51🙃
A masterpiece, deserves a billion views at least.
Thank you!
Skill or what???? Respect fella.
A work of Art ~ on wheels!
There is nothing left to say! What a craftsman!!!!!
Incredible build, from and old school panel beater fabricator by trade
Best I've seen for a long time❤ New Subscriber 😊❤🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝😎👍✌
Thumbs up 2K 😊
Thank you sir!
Absolutely crazy, incredible, amazing, stunning skill and craftsmanship.
Wow thanks for the kind words ☺️
There is only one explanation for all your efforts: love.
Your one insanely talented guy
Massive accomplishment, Congratulations! Having the Fibreglass as a Buck was a great help!!
Being english to take on one of the most iconic cars in the would wow first rate job stunning thumbs up well done 🇬🇧
Thank you! 👍
Потрясающе, это не работа с металлом это какое то волшебство!!!!!
I have watched and admired several wooden boat building projects over the last few years but this takes that kind of 'lofting', pattern making and shaping to a whole new level!
thank you!
The standard full time employee year in hours is 2080! Very impressive.
What craftsmanship. You do gain those skills in five minutes, that is years of practice and knowledge passed down through generations. Beautiful work.
i wish video was a bit longer ..just loved it ..
Bravooo, good job👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful panel beating... gorgeous work!
I have to show my brother this video. He restores vintage cars as a job, but refuses taking on Jags because they're always so totally rusted. I think this could change his mind, but only if he is allowed to build the chassis and bodywork from scratch and in aluminium, which I find a superior material to steel.
Very nice job, gives me itchy fingers to try something similar, but not quite as ambitions.
'Thanks! Ali is also my prefered material
give this man more aluminium
Yes please!
Absolutely MAGNIFICENT
You my friend are in the class of artisans
I must say that you are a very fast worker I couldn’t keep up with you 😂😂. But seriously the car is a masterpiece. I would like to see you make an Aston DB4 next. The early model though.
just stunning, with only hammer, dolly, and a English wheel, i love your work....... ; )
