Welcome back to the world according to Briggs and a look at the most popular National parks in The United States. This summer it looks like we are hitting the road again. 2020 sucked for tourism and life in general. This summer people will be loading the kids into the mini van and looking for some adventure.
National Parks are always a good vacation. They aren’t free but they are a lot cheaper than Disney or something like that.
I had two national park trips as a kid and I can tell you I remember those better than the handful of times my parents took us to Disneyland. Amusement parks are great, don't get me wrong, a national park will just stay with you longer.
Today we are going to look at the most visited National parks in the United States. We will be going off what the National Park System reported in 2019. As we all know, most were shut down during different parts of 2020, so it wouldn’t give a realistic view of the foot traffic these parks see.

Gates of the Arctic National Park I believe is the least visited.
There's one in Michigan that should be mentioned.
Lake clarke National Park is amazing beautiful but never visited
Guadalupe Mountains
I had them at Yosemite as #1 and Great Smoky Mountains as #2, but if we are talking just drive through on your way somewhere....well GSM wins bigtime. Get a convertible, put the top down and drive the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. You won't go fast, but you will see a WHOLE lot! Love driving the Blue Ridge Parkway whenever I can. Cool video as usual!!

Smoky mountain NP has such a mesmerizing atmosphere! Wildlife, lush greenery, rolling mountains ❤️🐻
And wonderful smell. I just love to get deep in there and breathe it in.
@@curlyque2717 agreed! The next time I’m going to pack some hot coffee in a thermos, drive up to one of the many Lookout points and enjoy the sunset for hours.
Went Smoky Mts this past Spring Break with the family...tears literally came to my eyes it was so beautiful.
I live here just outside GSM and it’s amazing. Glad to see people coming to enjoy our beautiful mountains and trails.
Same here, if I step out of my back door and walk half a mile I’m in the park. It is indeed amazing, it never gets old.
I have been to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Zion National Park, and Grand Canyon National Park. Glacier National Park is by far my favorite to date.
I’m a local of Montana and with all these new people coming in I haven’t been able to go in years becusse you gotta be rich or an out of staters to go at this point
@@Ultramarine37 I hear you, the last time I went to a national park I was young enough that my Dad payed the bill. He almost chocked on his breath when he saw how expensive it was.
@@Zenas521 they made it a bit more expensive but it’s not to bad it’s just way to crowded and lots of tourists are not smart and ruin stuff in the park
Heading to Glacier NP this summer so excited! Zion, Arches, Bryce, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone are on my list too.
I've only been to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Great Smoky Mountains, Yosemite and Cuyahoga Valley, (I live in Ohio). Most of my trips out of state were just business, and except for Yellowstone and Cuyahoga Valley, all of my visits were just drive throughs. Makes retirement worth looking forward to.
I moved from Ohio to Utah and have gone to 8 National Parks in the last year!
Just went to Waimea Canyon on Kauai and it's just breathtaking, it's a state park, but just as beautiful as many of these. People need to go see it!

Glacier National Park is incredible!! There's one of the most iridescent glacier lakes that's the most light turquoise blue you've ever seen! Beautiful!!
I think that’s Hidden Lake.
A fairly long hike but very well worth the effort.
The family had to cross a bunch of snow fields along the way. We got to Glacier just a week after Going to the Sun Road had opened.
Olympic national park is also a UNESCO world heritage site
I still have found memories of camping in the Redwoods of N. Calif. as a kid. That was 60 years ago and I try to get up there when I can.
The Capitol Reef shout out was well deserved. Very under rated park.

@@thefreem0 that area could benefit from a moderate amount of tourism $. The hotels, inns, restaurants, etc. in Wayne County aren't exceptionally busy. I agree I would hate to see it become another Moab, but there's some healthy room for tourism growth in the area.

Utah 12 between Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon is the best road in the US. Do it on a bicycle. Fantastic
@@rickyaz8640 no doubt! Driving on the narrow ridge is one of my favorite places I've ever been in a car. Incredible views. You can see the La Sal mountains on very clear days from that road. You're basically seeing Colorado from the middle of Utah. Pretty insane!!
My husband and I went to Zion and Bryce Canyon NP back in August of this year and I fell in love with Zion. If anyone is headed there, I definitely recommend doing the Canyon Overlook Trail (pretty easy 1 mile hike with a gorgeous view) and hiking the Narrows (more difficult as you are walking in the water but totally doable for most anyone, plus you can go as far as you'd like a turn back).
Happy to see the Indiana Dunes on your list. As a resident of the area I can say it some of the most beautiful views you'll ever see. We have plants growing here that are only found in one other place, the artic circle.
But you must be careful when walking along the dunes. They do move and cover many things, including trees. When these trees decay they leave a void under the sand. In 2014 a 6 year old boy was swallowed by one of these voids while his family was enjoying the day on the largest of the dunes, Mt. Baldy. After 3 and half hours he was found about 15 feet under the sand. He was lucky enough to survive. Can't promise anyone else would be as lucky. So please, if you visit, stay on the marked trails.
But please visit the lakeshore. Absolutely gorgeous at sunset. And some places rather than sand in the shallows you'll find clay. Very cool to see but also very slippery, so be careful.
I lived and worked In Yosemite National Park for 6 years. I lived on the meadow and when I opened my front door Half Dome was my view . Best 6 years of my life, the place is just magical

I love our National Parks. I've hiked down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and that solo backpacking trip was probably the greatest experience of my life. It is amazingly beautiful. As are all of the parks. We are so lucky to have them.
I encourage everyone to visit as many National Parks as you can and spend a few days at each.

Would love to see best drives in America. I am positive the Blue Ridge Parkway and Shenodonah are two of the best in the US.
You've obviously never been to the top of 'Going To The Sun' road in Glacier National Park. 😉
Skyline Drive in Shenandoah, Going to the Sun Rd in Glacier, Trail Ridge Rd in Rocky Mountain, Pacific Coast Highway, State Rt 12 in Utah between Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon, Park Loop Rd in Acadia are some of the ones I did and all were stunning. But my personal favorite is driving the Oregon Coast.

We love these types of vids, its a quality channel and is one of my favorites. Yeah Capitol Reef is cool and have been there many times as well as Moab. We are from SLC and my oldest sister once lived in Moab, so it was convenient to visit and always had a great time
Another gr8 vid! You should organize a trip or 2 or six to some of the locations that are in your vids. No boat cruises though. You seem like a person that people would like to hang around with and have a root beer float or a beer with. Thanks for another great vid!
Acadia National park is amazing I sadly lost all my pictures from my trip there wish I still had them.

I went to Rocky Mountain National Park one week ago today. I was fascinated by the natural bonzi trees at the timber line.
Capitol reef NP and Goblin valley SP are one of our favorite parks! Also, we just arrive from Washington, Olympic and Mt Rainier are just breathtaking! Lake McDonald is another beautiful landscape in Glacier! Love this video!!
Awesome video!! Just yesterday, my family and I were heading back home from northern Utah and visited both Bryce Canyon and Zion NP's. Great places to visit! I highly recommend them!

Yep Zion is so beautiful that it looks like it can’t possibly exist on earth. That and Arches are my favorites of the ones I’ve been to so far

The funny thing is, the most amazing parts of Zion, 99.999999% of the people that go there never see. If you have friends that have canyoneering skills, they can take you to places in Zion that make the "touristy" part not impressive.
So far, I’ve visited Acadia (x2), Shenandoah (x3), Great Smoky Mountains (x2), Everglades (x2), Mammoth Cave, Cuyahoga Valley, Indiana Dunes, Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Great Sand Dunes, Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon (x2), Zion, Bryce Canyon and Death Valley (x2). Many more to see.
Been to 3 National Parks and they were all in the top 5. They were all amazing! Can’t wait to see more National Parks.

I have 5 of the 63 National Parks. Got Shenandoah ranked # 19 Desired and # 2 Best of those visited.
I have Cuyahoga # 58 Desired & LAST in my Best visited.

Yes! Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor, Maine. A summer destination for this NJ/NY kid and my best friends every year.

I’m from NJ and have been up there a couple of times including last year. Acadia is beautiful and Bar Harbor is one of the most charming towns I’ve ever visited. The Maine scenery up there is gorgeous!
My family's first big post-pandemic trip was to Yellowstone and the Tetons. It was stunning, and the experience will indeed stay with us for a while.

My two favorite places are Yosemite and Tahoe. Anywhere in the sierras. Born and raised in utah. Never been to any parks on utah. Grandparents all on the Bay Area.

Cuyahoga Park / Falls area is AWESOME! We've gone there Several Times. 👍
We lived within 25 miles of Smokey Mtns. in early 80's. Very nice and if you go Smokey, go visit the Cherokee nation displays in Cherokee NC. It is near there on the NC end and is worth every minute you spend there. They had a play about the Trail of Tears and it was wonderful. Don't know if it still is being played or not.

Briggs, I liked this video. Keep it up. But I was confused how the # of visits didn’t increase from 15 to 1. That # went up then went down some then back up again. Did I miss something?
I’d love to see your most underrated or least visited national parks! North Cascades National Park in Washington is highly underrated in my opinion, especially with how beautiful Diablo Lake is.

I agree. It’s a very interesting landscape you won’t see anywhere else. Been there several times and enjoyed it very much.

I was there once, but it was in November, The temperature during the day was in the 80’s, and it was a dry heat, so it was a good time to go. I absolutely would not go there during the summer!

Yes! I would like to see a least visited list of NP’s and reasons why.
True story, my grandmother drove her car onto the Indians Dunes beach and filled the trunk with sand to take back to the lakeshore that her house was on. They filmed it and I’ve seen the footage. Played in that sand all the time when I was a kid.
Once, while in the Great smokies in NC, I spent a few hours drawing a plant I found that, to this day, I’ve never learned its identity…knowing how many plant species can be found there, maybe it doesn’t have a name yet. Yes, I spent a few hours drawing a plant. I was a quiet teenager that preferred the company of nature to that of people. Acutally, I am still the latter, not so much the former.
Aw man my personal favorite Mammoth Cave National Park didn't make it
Zion, Yellowstone and Yosimite were breathtaking. Visited the west/midwest of USA in 2018, and boy was I disappointed when the day came to take my flight back home.

I’ve been to most of the National Parks west of the Mississippi River. My parents took the whole family including grandma, in our big station wagon. Us kids rode in the back on the camping gear, with our home made kayak on the roof. It was used as extra storage- no Yakima racks for us! Color Kodak photos of bear running through the campground in Yellowstone. Family photos of us standing in front of the park entrances with the boys and our buzz cuts and the girls with clam digger pants. Our family was the only one that I new of that took looong summer road trips. Every summer was at least 2 weeks away from home, sometimes a month. My father saved his vacation time all year to take us on incredible trips. Thanks, mom and dad! You were the best parents I have ever known! Thanks Granny, for being willing to travel with a pack of wild hooligans every summer. Good times.
Nice shout out to Capitol Reef! I did Utah's 5 parks earlier this year right in a row and Capitol Reef was my favorite, and I didn't even see it all

Entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park is free. The park is one of the few national parks where no entrance fees are charged. Costs about 15 dollars a night for camping. One of the reason its number 1 for national parks.
I tell ya we have some beautiful landscape here in the US sadly I haven’t been to any of these parks yet, but I want to check out Mt.Rainer National park which wasn’t on this list, the Everglades, Acadia, Grand Teton, and Big Bend National park these would be my top 5 oh and of course Shenandoah National park:), any who great video Mr.Briggs!

Big Bend is fantastic. Long way from nowhere though. The state park next door (same name) also very good just doesn’t have the mountains. Bring your passport, you can cross over to Mexico for a nice, cheap lunch

Shenandoah NP, the Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Great Smoky Mountain NP form one huge park in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
I knew the Great Smokies would be number one. Great video Briggs!
The park’s in the west are by far the best. My favorites are Yosemite, Sequoia, Olympic, Glacier and Grand Teton. Glacier Bay in Alaska is pretty darn good too.
Can't believe all the cars , motorhomes , travel trailers and packs of motorbikes driving by backyard 5 acres aren't going 25 miles up the street to MT. RAINIER NATIONAL PARK which I'm starring at laying on the couch.
The GC is awesome. I've been there 4 times!
I live 20 miles from the Townsend entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Love the GSMNP. Been Camping there several times. Hiked to many waterfalls and fished some of the streams. You go there during the summer you see lots of license plates from Michigan,Ohio,Illinois,Indiana and Iowa. A few weeks ago I went to the Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. Those places were awesome. Pictures and Video don't do it justice.

I live in Tennessee. I have been to the Smokey's about a zillion times. You need to go. It is not that badly crowed as the visitors stats show. It is a beautiful place, just avoid the tourist traps of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
@@marycaroldownton8590 Good advice, definitely avoid Pigeon Forge. I would suggest going to the park in the fall while the leaves are changing. It’s breathtaking and a little less crowded than summer time.

I went to Bryce Canyon and Zion in the middle of April for spring break. Last summer in Yosemite for the first time, and Haleakala when I was too young to remember it unfortunately. But my dream job is to work with the NPS at a Park.
The oldest national park in the world is Bogd Khan Uul national park in Mongolia established in 1783

Good list I've been to rocky mountain national park and crater lake national park in Oregon I know it wasn't on this list both parks are amazing another cool place to mention although it's not a national park I don't think is Angel fire in New Mexico around Taos.

Just curious. The issue with the two separate bear attacks recently brings to a thought that bear populations maybe growing. ? Women especially need to be careful when they camp out in the woods. Bears have great ability to smell from distances and really smell blood. This maybe a danger that increases over time.

Acadia is probably the best kept secret here in the northeast that westerners don't know of, that's true. To me it looks like the Adirondacks and White Mountains up against the Atlantic Ocean. I'd say it's one of the most scenic parts anywhere on the east coast!

Great list! How are exact numbers collected if the America the beautiful card grants entry for an entire vehicle with X passengers?
Never been to the Smokies despite my state being a border state, but I have driven all the way to the Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, and Death Valley when it was 130+ degrees, Rocky Mountains, all summer 2020 actually. Nothing about this region excites me. I'll take the southwest and all that comes with it 7 days a week, 365 days a year. People confuse the desert for "boring" when in reality it's peaceful and beautiful.
Of these I have been to Bryce Canyon, Glacier (baby cant remember anything), Olympic, Acadia, Yellowstone, Zion, Grand Canyon (North Rim), and Great Smoky Mountains
Smokey mountains, Glacier Park, Yellowstone park, Joshuah Tree. Most visited parks.
Glacier should be the top 1-2 by its beauty!!!! But this rank makes sense. Smoky Mountain is one of the most accessible NP with a great view.
