  • Erlinda Ocampo Johnson was appointed a special prosecutor in the involuntary manslaughter case against Alec Baldwin in April. Last Friday, after Baldwin's defense team revealed the prosecution had failed to disclose the existence of live rounds to them, Johnson resigned. Law&Crime's Angenette Levy talked with Johnson about the discovery violation and her thoughts on the case against Baldwin in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in this episode of Crime Fix - a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

This makes the YSL trial and apparently the fulton county court system in general so much more egregious. The brady issues in this case were trivial compared to the brady violations in the YSL trial and yet the responses between the two are night and day. It's one thing for the case to be dismissed with prejudice. That just means the judge is honest, it doesn't say anything about the system. But the fact that the prosecutor resigned _before_ it was obvious what was going to happen, shows that in other court systems defendant's rights _are_ taken seriously. Seriously enough for a prosecutor to resign mid case after even catching a whiff of brady violations. Meanwhile in Fulton county the prosecutor's office doesn't just not turn over evidence, when caught they attack the defense and get the judge to help them!
