Just bought one. Had a few questions. Was hoping to be able to run a small 13” laptop, but with a USB docking and two 22 in monitors simultaneously. Is that possible? And does this have any built in surge protection or would I need to run everything through a surge protector for sensitive electronics?
Also, the Pro has 3500 cycles - pretty amazing.
My bad. I've seen that mentioned a few places, but I just found a manual and it says only 800 cycles.
I'm interested in these because of the ups function; I've seen demos and it works very well including on some exotic computer work stations. I would have to pay 300 bucks for a led acid 40 pound ups to get ten minutes of life support. So the 650 for the Pro with 720 wh is a good deal for me. And it's hard to find mid range/price power stations with 600 watt inverters. And I need at least 450 for my desktop. I wouldn't run it permanently, but I could get a clean shutdown and then use the River for a fridge or something.
Please do a 4 Patriots Sidekick solar generator.
Excellent review. Finally bought a Black Bluetti 1500 (a month ago) and 3 compact Renogy 100 watt panels. System works great on my 17' travel trailer. Thanks for the hard work it takes to produce these video's!!!
I love how you get excited about having the break stuff! You are a true engineer!
Dr. Destructo.
I agree with you. Having both batteries able to be changed would be much more worth having one. It would be nice to have them change that.
I would pay no more than $500 for this item, all bugs removed. I already have and like my new Jackery 500 (with dedicated solar panel) and 2ea Ego Nexus 2000 Watt 30AH 56v units and love them. Great job on this and all your other reviews. Cheers!
Looking forward to a review of the Bluetti AC 200 that you had for a couple of days!
The X-Boost is only for resistive heat loads (electric heater, coffee maker, hair dryer, anything with a heating element). It dials down the voltage so it can run resistive loads. It will let you boil water with an electric kettle but it just takes longer than normal.
Exactly, use these functions what they are intended to be used for. Induction could easily run at lower setting. This is a 600 watt device with temporary 1200 watt, short time only. So use it within it specs.
X-boost is NOT marketing hype, it is an option for people that know what they are doing and it is a great one.
I wonder how it works treat an instant pot pressure cooker
Hey Tom, I really enjoy your "Solar Generator" videos. I'm still not sold on the Ecoflow, seems like a "Microsoft Product" where they rush something "new" to the market & expect the consumer to report their "issues". I think I will stick with my Jackery E1000 & E500, rock solid with very few issues.
I agree. The fake 1200 watt seems wonky to me. I do think Jackery should take some tips from these guys however. They should allow for faster charging and allow all their units to be hooked together (same models) and allow there batteries to be replaced. If Jackery did these 3 things and still keep the proven reliability, can't imagine another company touching them.
@@danielrice5474 If Jackery was more like Ecoflow, you'd like Ecoflow? lol
@@Curb71 Jackery has proven name/rep and don't fake inverter strength. If Jackery added the above things I mentioned, I'd like Jackery even more. I'm sure they keep up with what we are charging and will update there boxes in time.
Daniel Rice I understood what you were saying Daniel and agree. Some people are simple and can’t wrap their minds around a concept that you proposed. And then actually laugh at their own ignorance.
There was another review video where a guy plugged his RV into an R600 and tried to use his AC. The under voltage burned up the air conditioner. Under voltage can damage things you plug into it! Beware.
That happened because of x-boost was on and it undercuts the voltage to run things that it wouldn't normally run. If he would've have it off then it would've shutdown like normal so definitely user error.
@@Trillville43 agree. Not that it could have ever ran it anyways since it likely needs around 25A. All around a bad idea.
Thanks
Check the draw on the induction cooker. If it's anything like the ones I've tested it works using pwm under certain wattage settings, typically around the 1000w mark. That is it still cycle on and off when on a lower setting but still hitting 1000w + when cycling on. I found this when testing my bluetti with an induction cooker on 1000w. It caught me out to start with.
I just ordered one! Thank you for your video.
Fantastic video, thank you. I ordered the 600 pro. Our road trips are mostly car camping so this can keep us charged up between hotels. Hopefully it delivers in time for our 6 week trip this fall to southern Utah.
THANK YOU for being specific about the app, cloud, and the obvious nature of a design like that --surveillance, just like the smart-meters that were installed without our permission. It's totally unacceptable and a complete dealbreaker for me, even if it were rated #1 worldwide. I was very surprised (and, frankly, concerned) to find that of the 171 comments that were here when I wrote this, only two other people brought that issue up - less than 2%. Thanks for a thorough review.
You get a like purely for the back to the future sketch. Oh and the awesome video thanks
It’s like 6 of one or half a dozen of another trying to decide which brand on the market is best right now. I decided to not miss out on the kick starter and last night ordered the R600 Pro, 2 of them. The deciding factor of which brand to order was the 2 hour charge time/weight.
I can carry this with me into McDonald’s Donald’s. Staying 2 hours is reasonable. Five to 8 isn’t. Who can do that daily? There’s miles to cover, ya know? But I can also solar charge this or charge by 12v. All faster than any other product.
I probably can’t do an induction cooktop, which is something I wanted, but I can carry this.
Thanks for the review. Much appreciated. And I love this color. Hope they don’t send black!
I'm going to try the induction cooker again with the "X-Boost" turned off and see if it works. Heidi loves the teal color too. Definitely not a guy's color!
Several months ago I used my induction cooktop. Not sure, but I think it was med/low.
Fair enough! I like how you pushed that jocker.... Now we know it's only 600watts. Not 1200watts..
My replacement Jackery 1000 came. Thanks for another great video.
Best thing I like is the 1 .5 hr charge
I want one but cant swing this price at this time. BTW - Love the content - Great job!!!

Hello Professor Hobo! Not sure if you check your older posts, it seems this is the only way for a user to try and make contact. My wife and I love watching your channel!!
My question isn't about the River Max, we invested in the Ecofllow River Plus (with extra battery & 2 panels), and my quest to find a cable with an XT60 female (to connect with main unit) and Anderson/HPP connection for connecting a Goal Zero Nomad 200 solar panel; found the Nomad 200 in a return clearance deal with REI, selling for $250!!! I've been researching 10 foot cables for a direct connection, from the XT60 port on our River Plus, to my Nomad 200's HPP/Anderson connection. I literally can not find a cable configured this way and am now questioning if there's a potential hazard or conflict I'm not aware of.
Lastly, I don't have a lot of formal education with electronics, only the basics to understand polarity and applicable electrical ratings; in my personal previous electrical endeavors, electricians have advised against the implementation of an adaptor and/or in-line converters. The idea pointing out the potential points of failure associated with each adapter and/or conversion cables added into the equation. This is why I'd rather not use multiple cables to adapt the connection of the Nomad 200; opting to use a single run cable with the needed ends (XTT60 to HPP). If there aren't any obvious hazards, should I just make the cable myself? Or is my single run cable idea not relevant anymore; modern solar connections don't degrade flow of current anymore, etc?
I make a table for the R600 that sits over the handle and creates a surface to set things on. It also features wireless charging for phones and tablets that support wireless charging.
Thanks!! The required app to change settings and the invasion of privacy issue was a deal breaker for me.
FYI.... personal experience here. Do NOT USE as a UPS. My pro unit failed after 6 months of UPS use. when I spoke with Ecoflow their first question was "was it being used as a UPS?" to which I answered yes. They immediately ended the troubleshooting and just had me ship it back for a new unit.
Great review! Glad to see the x-link works. The charging time is great! Bluetti AC 200 is good, but maybe cannot wait till the end of this year or maybe next year to get one.
It's also the difference between an 11lb unit and a almost 60lb unit.
Thanks for the review, Hobotech! As a general rule, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to anything that hasn't been tested/retested/marketed for years...so this is a HUGE leap of faith for me. I went out on a limb and ordered the R600 Pro + 110w Solar Panel. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me on the butt. 😬
Oh, well... Thank you for your informative review - you've given me fair warning and ample time to cancel my purchase. 😀😊👍🏻
Also, thanks for the heads-up regarding the app. It'll definitely be a "no go," for me. 😎
Finally a HOOO BOOO Tech Knows PRODUCT REVIEW!!
I really enjoy watching your reviews. Thank you.
Thumbs up fort the BTTF reference
I'm a Bluetti kind of guy so I will wait for the AC200. After all, I already have a Bluetti 1500 and the Beaudens 384Wh power station.
Does your Beaudens read the wrong charge % after charging and use, and does your power supply get hot enough to cook an egg? These are serious flaws I found with the 384 about 4 months back and they told me they fixed them but I haven't gotten an updated model yet.
@@HOBOTECH Sorry to say but I picked mine up nearly 4 months ago and yes, the charge % looks a little wonnky at times and it does run hot. The running hot didn't bother me much As I was new into this and thought maybe it was supposed to. But the charge % was upsetting. That's something you really want to know with some degree of accuracy. I really noticed it when I would shut down and the charge percent would be something like 60% but when i turned it on the following day, without having charged it, the power would read maybe 75%. Unfortunately, I don't remember seeing your review of this power station. I use it primarily to charge my phone and 3 tablets. I use my Bluetti for everything else.
Same problem I have with my Beaudens 380. SOC is rarely displayed correctly.
@@stoncrop8725 I didn't do a review of it because it was fatally broken so they recalled it. The overheating of the power supply was so scary I only charge it outdoors. You must have got it before the recall. I bet if you file a claim with Beaudens they will send you an updated model.
@@HOBOTECH Thanks for the tip Professor. I'll check that out.
Very nice Reveiw . Thanks For sharing .
Maybe a dumb question as I am new to all this battery power station discussion, but can I hook up a surge protector to one of the AC ports and run like 3 devices as long as total doesn’t exceed 600 watts?
And what happens if I plug in 3 different devices to each of the AC ports directly- then can I run each AC port to 600 watts each?
Ehhh ill be honest they lost me with the app stuff and the light options. I just hate anything with stuff like that. I dont wanna mess with it and if im not gonna use it why would I pay for it? Thats a lot of R and D cost to account for im sure, Wonder how much it would be without them? If they cut this fluff out id consider it, but right now im gonna keep saving for a bluetti
Get a R600 Pro ..... NO LIGHTS, better features, better battery technology! AND ... Linkable to a whopping EF-1500 Battery Bank! DONE😉
@@sed237 That's what I ordered but never got it they ripped me off for $499

The computer in the induction cooker doesn't like the lower voltage. Some digitally controlled air conditioners do the same thing.
Privacy is something to think about in that the USB standard also transfers data with devices in most instances... Hmmm... to do some of the things it does would require a fairly intelligent micro-controller. Might want to be careful plugging in that Mac book or maybe your cellphone heheh
Wow really smart! Thanks
No…Hobotech…I’m looking for this size power station…but I’m not buying this one mainly because of the short battery cycle life! Any advice for a good 600-700 watt station in the $500-600 price point with over 2000+ life cycles? What is a good portable solar panel for said station??? I also didn’t like in review it revealed my having to download the app to change settings and the 1 internal battery…I’m not very mechanical minded but I picked up on that asinine idea myself early on! LOL. Thank you for your honesty with these reviews!
I wanted to comment on the part of the video trying to run the induction cooktop with X-Boost. The X-Boost feature should ONLY ever be used for RESISTIVE (heat based) loads like the Mr. Coffee. The induction cooktop is NOT a pure resistive load, which is why it was causing so many issues with the inverter. I don't think any reviews have been clear about what X-Boost does and what it is used for specifically. Most people will not ever use X-Boost unless you are trying to use more than 600W for a heating application only. Anything with a power supply should NOT be used with X-Boost.
X-Boost is on by default and I do in fact think most will try every appliance they can in that mode and likely burn some of them up. The fact there was no instructions or warnings of any kind bothers me as the vast majority who buy these don't understand electricity and will misuse them. That's the point of my review.
Could it run a small toaster then? (800 watt)
@@HOBOTECH Yikes! They told me on KickStarter that X-Boost would come OFF by default and people would need to explicitly turn it on in the app. Hope they change that when it ships.
Have you tear down the inside for “premature failure of battery” I believe I saw on their oficial videos that it has that dangerous lithium lipo chemistry not ion or lifepo4, so that’s the reason they can really output that peak 1200 for seconds hmm abit dangerous to use in a hot car or camping in a super sunny day if exposed to heat and that interior fan fails
I wish they still sold that particular model 600 where u can put them in parallel dont know why they took that feature away
I wish they would bring it back.
Without the extra battery with x booster on the 600 runs my electric fireplace. I can’t wait to attach the extra battery and see what I can do with it. Also being able to purchase xtra batteries means that device can run forever.
I wonder if these perform as bad as the River Pro for 12V operations. I bought a River Pro and was a bit disappointed in it's 12V output capabilities. It will not operate my 120W 12V popout slide. It drops the voltage to a point the motor breaker trips and motor stops. I have 2 other smaller power supplies that work the slide without fail. I tried everything and it just trips the motor breaker. Great for 110V but again, at high wattage draw, it drops voltage to accommodate without tripping the internal breaker which can be harmful, especially to sensitive equipment.
Is the annoying flashing light off by default? I don't plan to hook it to a phone app.
Mr. Hobotech do you have to have wifi just to use this.??? The whole point of getting this for me is a shtf.. Where there won't be any wifi or maybe even electric.. ?!🤔
can we parallel one of these and a river mini? also about the x boost - do you think it’s dangerous to operate an appliance in a mode that lowers the volts - and in what way? is there risk of fire for example
Hi Mr. Hobo man sir, what are your thoughts on the EcoFlow models vs the Bluetti? Do you prefer one over the other? Many thanks
Thx for letting us know the chemistry of the Pro model. I must have missed that on the website and i was curious if it was LiFePO4. The Pro model is the one to buy once they get the kinks worked out!
There are no known kinks for the Pro model.
@@Curb71 I saw in on the indiegogo site
if difficult in the UK there all exspensive, eco flow max £550, blueetti £500 and Jackery 500 £530. i really dont know what to get. feeel like perhaps getting the river at £350 then if i like the hole solar thing then get the battery pack for another £220 although then its £570 ! which is 780 dollers
Going to guess the cooktop does not like the voltage drop induced by going over 600W, is self protecting. Appliances, eg fridge, motored tools, can be damaged by under-voltage. So one must beware of this inverter's characteristic.
the second choice for the Time vehicle was a Van Camper...
I like that color scheme
Can it run a coffee maker? 18:52 "Yes, well..." too funny! I have to admit, I like a lot of the features of the R600 but I have a number of concerns, mainly with the crowdfunding. I'll pass.
I just bought one and it doesn't charge to anymore than 94%. Is it broken? Should I send it back? Is there a fix?
Can you safely run a 30 volt panel with its own internal charge controller limiting it without damaging it?
I am tempted to get on of these for a XMas gift to someone I am not overly fond of!!!! BLUETTI STILL RULES
Sounds like you got money to waste playing it safe 🤣
My problem with this portable batteries is the fact that the inverter is included. waste a lot of space.
I built a "cheap" suitecase/backpack battery and if i ever need a AC outlet i can connect the inverter. But my main usecases are as a notebook charger, emergency battery and thats it, AC outlet not really needed.
I ordered the R600 Pro but I've never seen it I was ripped off for $499 moral of the story BUY NOTHING THROUGH KICKSTARTER
Do a chargeback through your credit card company.
Can I ask (I really don't speak electricity), a fully charged R600 MAX, how many times can it (approximately) charge one of these:
1) Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, 4,300 mAh battery
2) A Lenovo laptop (48 W·h) (4400 mAh, I think)
And is the AC adaptor safe for the laptop?
And roughly speaking how long would it take to charge one of those units?
Thats a very good point about the battery stacking like the titan. That's actually a GREAT idea.
Around 31:00
Overall, Im glad I cant afford this right now. I HOPE *crosses fingers* that their next version includes Lifepo in the base model. Im very picky but this joint is certainly the best PPS (portable power station) out there at the kick starter pirce. I'm not so sure about the retail price.
If I could afford one, Id roll the dice on the Pro especially since they have that long warranty. Id almost get it just in hopes that it would work but I already have two PPS. Im glad to hear that the Pro has a 400 watt limit. Its shaping up to be my ideal PPS.
I too am not a fan of requiring an account. I would probably create a throw away account on a wiped phone (I have a lot of phones) and make my changes and then wipe everything all over again. Hashtag overkill.
The PRO actually has the same 200W solar input. The additional 200W is only for the optional add-on EF-1500 battery, which can be connected directly only to the PRO unit via a proprietary connector and has its own XT-60 connector with 200W input max.
@@nfdsouza Yeah someone else said that. That 200 watt limit is better than everything else but still feels wack.
@@AskIveSolar Yup, it would be nice if higher, but still not bad for a power station of this size. The upcoming Bluetti AC200 has 700W of solar input, but is in a different class and price range than the R600 series.
@@nfdsouza I wonder if bluetti will release a new redesigned mid range that's more like the 200 because their ac 50 and 150 250 appear to be generic devices with better warranties.
Darn auto correct - hoping my Max will be able to power it for a while in case of a power outage.
I just bought the pro. This is my first solar gen.. was thinking about getting 3, 100w panels. Or a 200w and 100w panels. The reason being so I can get the full charge rate when absorbing the sun. Am I correct in thinking this? Will it work as I've stated ?... I'm needing help. Setting up optimal solar for the pro model. Thank you.
If anyone is thinking of cancelling their R600 preorder, for the AC200 or another reason, please get a hold of me first! I would love to adopt your preorder. :)
I can help you with that if still interested
Great reviews always 👌
Thanks for the video, can you say how long this would keep a MacBook Pro running for ? It says they draw 60 watts so would that be about 10 hours? or do you get gains from not using DC and bump up to 12-13 hours? Thanks.
It was awesome seeing it power 100+W from the USB-C port. I also have a pair and have enjoyed testing X-Boost & X-Link. Could you retest your induction cooktop with X-Boost turned off on a low setting? It should have no problems with a load under 600W but X-Boost is only for resistive loads.
Also wanted to point out the Pro model isn't capable of 400W of solar unless it's connected to the 30lb EF1500 external battery. They each can take 200W. Thanks again for your thorough review.
31:00 Yes they could have done the battery-system another level of better. A base unit without a battery and then being able to add as many max modules as you like.
Problem with that it would raise the price for a function not everyone is looking for.
With the system they created now they have actually two module, the 288 wH model and the 566 wH model, for prices that still are like comparable products out there.
I just ordered one directly from Amazon....but then I decided to get the extra battery...but Amazon keeps saying NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.....
If I use a 600W heating fan how long can I use this with a fully charged ECOFLOW River 600? in hours please. Thanks
I hope they are considering making a version that you can replace the battery yourself 🤙 a good option to would be able to run a lithium ion battery or a LiFePO4 battery that would be more expensive.
Those small 12vdc output 5521 ports limited in amps each? Any special step to charge faster directly from a 12v battery? What if I step up my voltage to 24v?
What solar panel/panels do you recommend to be able to over panel this safely to say 240w total?
Great thorough review. Did you try testing the paired R600 (eg true 1200W) with the induction cooker or even just a single R600 with X-boost turned off and induction on low setting? I wonder if that solves the issue of the pulsing and the x-boost is the issue? I think if you simply disable X-boost or consider it not an option for most appliances it is still some great tech and features. Hopefully they continue to improve the system.
It's a great option for here in Australia where we have very few power stations and crazy expensive.
Yes, it will run fine with X boost off and in parallel mode. However the video was already 38 minutes long ...
Has anyone else had their base model + extra battery run hot?
Is the fan above the ac port supposed to run while in use?
Hey hobo its 7 months later I don't see a video for the updated version of this ecoflow 600 river or the pro version whats up im going to buy 2 pro version of the river 600 I like to know what you think about the pro today
i have this river 600 max....would you know how or what type of battery i could attach as a booster to it? something that could fit xt60 into the solar input. i did this for my bluetti but that one takes higher voltage.
Really enjoy your reviews. Purchased an EcoFlow River Max but returned it because of display issues and haven't received a replacement yet. I have a 16 year old Kenmore side by side refrigerator/ freezer. I'm not sure if wattage. Hoping my Max will be able to lower in for a while in case of power outage. What do you think?
400 watt solar for the r600 pro? Where is that stated? That sounds like good news.
Seems like when I do decide to
Buy there will be some cutting
Edge device pop up the next day.
A piece of advice? I see you test a lot of different battery packs, I have a iceco 20 quart and would like to power it for 48 hours in a very remote location "mining claim in the Siskiyou national forest" so witch one do you recommend?
I always wondered how much power you lose overall cause every powerbank and station have blinking lights while charging.
So they provide you an adapter that is limited to 25w for solar ?
Wonder what cordless tool co. is
Going to come out with the entire
Package?
question an you charge one with the other from the 12v plug in adapter?
Thank you for the detailed review.
Can you show us how to connect them parallel
I know this was a beta test, but I noted something interesting here. I have been looking at these and I asked customer service a question they never really answered. They have the River which you can add a battery to. And then they have the Max, which has that battery BUILT IN. The Max is more money than the River with the extra battery. They couldn't tell me why. But I see here what you called a "Max" with the add on battery, was not a "Max". And that might be why the efficiency of that add on battery is not the same as the built in battery. Now what I would like to know is, what is the efficiency of the "Max" which has the extra battery built in and cannot be removed. As far as the limit on the solar charging, remember that this charges remarkably fast, regardless of that limitation. As for price, I think you need to look at where this lands in terms of the market. It's difficult to find a power station with a 600 W inverter. It fills a gap between 300 W and 1000 W. It also has ups function. Also, the base model is only $349 - that's a 600 W inverter and 288 WH. I'm looking at the pro because it's only 100 bucks more than the Max and has 720 WH. For me, the AC150 is too much power and too much money. The Ac50 is not enough power. And I want the ups function and that's hard to find in a small unit like this. And I think the charging time is a big plus.
I think having the electronics totally separate from the battery would have been better.
Also, have you ever reviewed the Flexopower Lithium 444? We get this here in SA as well.
question, what's the DC5521 cable they include used for?

Love your content - I’m thinking about pulling the trigger on a the new beaudens 380wh power station, I believe you mentioned in a solar panel review that you had a product review of that power station coming out soon. Is it true? I need to order mine today/tmrw and would love to hear what you think. Thank you!
My 380 had serious problems and the product was recalled. Not sure if the version out now is fixed or not. I contacted them to find out as they were supposed to send me an updated model. If you want to be safe get one of the recommended and tested models I have on my Amazon page.
@@HOBOTECH Professor - I have the 380 as well and i'm curious as to what is/was wrong with yours. Mine does not calculate/display the SOC correctly. It can be full, used to 60% and and turned off. Next time you power it on, it says 87%. It seems to calculate correctly while in continuous use, but after cycling the power, it returns to 87% no matter what the SOC. Curious to hear your experience or if you receive any response from Beaudens. Thanks!
Very good video with excellent info
Looking at these on the Ecoflow site. Can you still daisy chain 2 RiverMax power stations together? Have the ports been taken away?
This feature was removed for the production model. They couldn't get it to work right.

My panels have an xt60 output, but, my charge controller did not come with xt60 output. Can I go direct from panels into this? Or do I need to find a connector that includes my controller.
You can go direct from panels into this, it has a built-in MPPT charge controller, though input is limited to 25V and 12A, 200W max.
@@nfdsouza Thx for advice to the newb my panels are 160 so I should be ok then.
Don't ever use a charge controller with a solar generator.
@@HOBOTECH OH?! Can you educate me a bit on that?
