    Another great video! Got a little information for you from AK... Got a friend that owns a gravel pit and makes all kinds of different stone and gravel... Ive been learning alot. He helped me with our property... He recommend three quarter minus... It has alot of fine material in it with stone no bigger then three quarters of an inch... The stuff is amazing and my driveway is like cement now. I built a big roller out of an old tank... No gravel comes up when plowing now. Trouble is with the round stone or pure stone, it gets pushed all over... My tractor is an older L275. Been thinking of a blower but we havent been getting enough snow... Cheers!

    Have the same fogging on my Kioti the odd time. Have to use defrost a lot, until the tractor really heats up I keep a rag to clear especially the side windows. Agree once the cab heats up its like a furnace even with the temp turned down. The first few times with the blower are a pain until you have a nice frozen base. Even with it higher it's easy to skim a bit of the gravel. I have a rear blower because I need the fel as well so I try and use it for the first few dumps of snow. Love the videos.

    Good to see you throw snow again. Kind of a tease with the amount of snow

  • @ToreDL87
    @ToreDL87 Před 3 lety +1

    Yeah you're cutting it close here, leave 5 inches or so even if it doesnt look all that nice, just drive the rest down with your car everywhere you can!
    Do that with a couple of snowfalls, then you get a nice, hard, compact layer of packed snow/ice so you wont dangle up the paintjob inside the snowblower and it'll give you at least a decade of faithful service before you start having any issues!
    The problem is when paint is worn off the fan blades, the fan housing and the funnel, snow is gonna stick to that and bungle up everything and then you're looking at spending just as much time stoking the stuck snow out of your blower as you do clearing out the snow! :)

    GP. I have a B2601 with front blower and rear blade (may sound familiar...) for my gravel driveway. I have clear crush not road mulch like you because I don't like tracking sand all over my house. I had road mulch.... now I don't. House is way cleaner now.
    I sucked a ton on rocks first snowfall. Took half the paint off the impeller in no time... so now the first couple snowfall falls I just run a home made drag over it to pack it down with no removal. Its a pallett with a 4x4 across the front and one across the back with a rope in a vee in the front to tow it by. Just tow it around and it will pack the first couple snowfalls down and make them absolutely smooth. When I have a packed base a few inches deep I run the blower all the way down with no rocks. There are also larger after market shoes that don't dig in.
    I use the drag to smooth the snow out mid winter if it starts getting uneven too.

    Thank you GP for another great video. Living in mid lower Michigan, we have the mud, soft gravel season at the beginning and end of winter also. What I do with my back blade is turn it around, and effectively drag it backwards. By turning it around, the angle of attack on the road surface is not nearly as sharp and aggressive. That works great for not digging up the soft gravel, at least it works good for me. Also, I added to the width and length of my snow blower shoes, and covered the bottom (ground contact) area with 3/4 inch thick plastic. For my application, that was enough surface area increase to allow the shoes to stay on top of the soft gravel. The large plastic lined shoes glide over the soft gravel and snow easier than the steel. If you care to see photographs of the enlarged modified shoes, I can post them if you ask. Thank you for sharing your videos, I enjoy them so much. God bless.

    Thanks to your videos I got the wheel spacers on a couple weeks ago and put on a similar chain this weekend. I went with the Trygg studded chains. Had to use an angle grinder to cut off a few links to get them to fit the wheels of my L4060. I have a similar set up to yours with a front blower and rear blade. Used it for the first time this weekend. Had to finesse the height of the blower between float and raising to avoid kicking gravel and finesse with the blade as well. Yes, my cab is quite toasty as well and no issues with fogging. Let it snow!

    Dang GP !! Life is good, is it not...!!? Too hot in there ??...LOL. Be my luck to have a piece of gravel pop my camera dead center !! I'm betting a good steaming cup of coffee would contribute to a little fog on the interior. LOL. I'm sure they've done air flow dynamic testing to direct adequate quantities where it needs to go to minimize interior fogging. Its all evolution...today's cabs probably are tenfold better in design. But...that's totally conjecture on my part. Good video GP and I sure hope you guys get hit with about 20 inches pretty soon. • @profdave2861
    @profdave2861 Před 3 lety

    Good first run with the blower, Gord! On the fogging issue, it sounds like the LX doesn’t have a fresh/recirc button like cars/trucks have. The Grand L series has it, so you can use recirc to heat the cab up quickly and then switch to fresh to bring in outside air, thus exhausting the moist air and vastly reducing the propensity to fog the windows. As has been mentioned, cracking the windows a bit to let some of the moist air out really helps.
    And as for the heat in the cab, you will eventually realize that you don’t need a coat on when you’re blowing snow for that long! I usually fire up the L4060 with only a hoodie or light jacket on, and then am typically down to shirtsleeves within 15 minutes! I end up with my temperature setting around half way between heat and cool, even with the recirculated air.
    Sure us pretty up there!! Cheers!

  • @gettintheresafelywithpatf2869

    Everyone has mentioned either turn on your a/c, or cracking a window, but another trick is to clean the windshield with shaving cream, just like the mirror in your bathroom! This was a trick I learned with my old Chevy truck, because the heater/ defroster was bypassed in the engine compartment ( bad heater core) and I was waiting for parts, my mother suggested it and I figured what could it hurt, it would beat clearing the windshield with a damp glove!

  • @markw2266
    @markw2266 Před 3 lety

    I put a set of double cross link straight chains on the front of my L3200. I'm running the same or very close to the same tire you have. Very nice for backing up a incline, with all that weight out front I would think they would be very effective. Compared to the rear chains they were inexpensive like less than 100 usd. No snow in south east PA yet still grabbing logs wherever we can find them. Tree companies are rightly starting to charge for hauling away large trunks. Craigslist free stuff is providing another source of wood. I prefer the forest but it's hard to ignore trailer loads of big red oak all ready limbed and waiting for pickup.
    Your set up looks fantastic, nothing more satisfying than having the right tool for the job! Makes snow much more enjoyable.

    Hi Gord. Two things you mentioned in the video that possibly could help. Regarding the rear blade tilt angle, I turn my blade 180 degrees and drag it during the early snow packing stage. Doesn’t dig that way. Second, regarding the turning issues with the front wheels you had or may have with the snowblower. When trying to turn with the blower attached, the shoes become the “steering direction” and tend to pull you out of the direction you want to turn. Once the base is packed remove the shoes altogether so they don’t interfere with turning. Happy winter

    I have been waiting for you to have a snow deep enough to give a good demonstration of how your tractor/blower combination works. I take it that the model tractor you have is a LX 2610 HSDC with the mid pto? I am looking to purchase a tractor in the future and am unsure of Green or Orange at this time. I find myself leaning in one direction for a while then, switching back. I think I should take each for a 'test' drive. I can really appreciate the hydraulic control of both the chute rotation and the deflector position, it would seem like that would be the finest control. Not to mention that it would seem like it would be the easiest to maintain. Keep up the good work, and 'be kind to one another'.

      Hey thanks Joe! I will issue out a 4 month review on this tractor in a few days. Definitely please take a test drive of each of the different tractors you are narrowing down on. So important - trust me. Not only from an overall feel, but when you sit in the operator's station, you need to be totally comfortable with the distance between your feet and the pedals, the steering wheel, as well as the reach to the FEL joystick and the suspension of the seat. They all fit differently and when you spend hours at a time in that seat, you want the most comfortable feel you can get - orange, or green, or blue or red - doesn't matter. Best of luck in your search!

    Didn't your Mother tell you to "stop throwing stones!" hahaha..
    There at about the 3:00 mark I actually ducked as the snow/stones started flying towards the camera ( and me! ) . I don't like this time of winter, as you pointed out, this is when the wet snow
    sticks to the gravel and stones and get's thrown out of the chute,.. hopefully, and doesn't jamb the auger and impeller/fan enough to break the shear pins hey!
    I usually clear out the snow from the blower, then set it running at very slow R'sPM while it's running I stand clear and give the auger chain a good spray coating of 'Open Gear & Chain Lubricant'
    I find it keeps the drive chain clean and rust free.
    I hope you get some snow to 'play in' soon Gord,...happy snow clearing!

    For fogging in the cab, try some small fans to move the air around, I had to use some in my Jeep when plowing snow.

    Good evening GP, 😊 What I do before using my blower is I snowpack the road with the tractor only until I have a good snow ice pack so I do not trough anymore rocks !!! I put the RMP very low on the snow blower too. We were doing that also to skid out the lumber or with the wood trailer 👍Do you have to grease that front chain on your snowblower ? Great video GP keep warm Cheers !!!

    Wow GP that thing really blows some serious snow. I know cameras don't show distance very well but at the beginning when you first started at your shed it looked like it was going 100'. Have fun this winter.

      There are 3 settings, heat, cool and defrost/heat.
      I think some of these tractors have a vent configuration/connection issue. There seems to be little air from some of the vents.

    Hi GP! in case you do have an issue with cab fog/condensation I am a big fan of RainX anti-fog. It goes on interior glass much like traditional RainX products and for about $8 at Canadian Tire you can't go wrong. Cheers!

    The trick is to pack the first snow down not move it away. You have a snowmobile use that to pack the area first. They are fast and cover a lot of ground quickly. Something else I do on my long driveway is pack it down by following a different track coming and going in my truck. 5" of snow is perfect to pack down to form the base.

    • @sherpa972
      @sherpa972 Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Claude, do you sand/gravel when the base ices up?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  Před 3 lety

      LOL. That's exactly what i usually do as well, Claude. I keep packing and driving in different tracks etc. I have to be honest, the little boy in me made me fire up that blower, I was 99% sure I wouldn't get too far. But also realized it may be helpful for new tractor owners to see by example what I have always talked about. Thanks for the great ideas!

    • @claudenormandeau9211
      @claudenormandeau9211 Před 3 lety

      @@sherpa972 my driveway is flat so sanding is not needed. If your tractor has chains on it that breaks up the hard pack enough to last a few days by scarrifing it.
      Another thing I used to do as a welder was sharpen my rear blade like a knife and that took all the shinny ice right off. This was only good to do when you had a good thick base.

    Maybe park your tractor nose first into your carport to offer more protection from elements instead of tarping the blower. Yes may be more cumbersome reversing first, but better protection for the front end. Love your videos. Thanks. CHEERS!

  • @alittleofthisandalittleofthat

    With my rear blower I’m thinking of buying another set of shoes and weld on a wide plate on the bottom. They are only maybe 2” wide and cut into the unfrozen ground causing it to scalp and pick up stones.

    The heat in my cab works really well also, most times I'm driving with the heat on and the rear window cracked open. That also helps the windows not to fog up. I find if the cab is all closed up I get fog in the inside.
