- The is the BEST of the 1960s for sure and in a little over two minutes, The Trashmen changed the face of rock and roll forever. "Surfin' Bird" reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is a combination of two R&B hits by The Rivingtons, "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" and "The Bird's the Word". You have never seen anything like this!! Thanks to Mark McCool for posting this.

This is the greatest thing humanity has ever made.
Stratosfear the God Peter Griffin would agree with you on that.

Youre a sick girl Ashley.

Absolutely
The grandfathers of the punk!!!
Absolutely...YES¡¡¡
...it's pure Punk..¡¡
..it was, it's been, it will be there
...for ever and ever and ever....¡¡
My favourite song ever¡¡¡¡
I hope that someday, a thousand years from now, archaeologists are looking to see what our age's arts were like and *THIS* is the only video they can find.
It would be enough.
More like historians
Nah. Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. Rickroll the fucking future.
These are the type of people that make being alive worth it.
RIP to Steve Wahrer (The insane man doing the vocals) Passed from throat cancer 1989.
Good then we are spared him singing this shitty song ever again.
Let's appreciate the talent of The Trashmen, they took only 16 words (Surfing, well, don't, you, know, everybody's, talking, heard, about, the, Bird, everybody, knows, that, is, word) and a few random sounds and turned it in to an actually great song.
That and a completely BULLETPROOF rhythm section!
and also the word “talking”
@@VladDracula04 Oh, Right. Thanks.
Tequila buff said lol. But this song is just as awesome. The great music is from the past
Same with the Beatles; they made an entire song with “i want you”.
This song is a national treasure and must be protected at all costs.
This is why aliens don’t visit
This is why they do, even they need a good laugh now and then.
I was laughing my ass off when he was pretending to be a bird and running around in circles
That was hilarious
This guy must have been doing speed. This behavior is not normal.
When the drugs kick in
Thats not the group trashmen. Thats dutch preformer in a talent show
@@groenekever: Only the end is André van Duin. The beginning is original.
This song is deep
that sounded so gay
He said the commentary sounded gay, not the music.
Das though man 😔
r/im14andthatsdeep
Lyrics are too complex ;-)
As a stage performer this man was way ahead of his time.
Again! Again! I love repetition!!!!!
Stewie😂
watch this and any kind of sadness is eliminated
One of my favorites. Years ahead of its time.... Ridiculous dance.
yes reminds me of the chicken dance in Texas
It is absolutely the way to dance to this!
Love rock n roll.. this song is one of those song that get stuck in your head.. very catchy tune..
sent this to my dad before he died. his response was "I'll have a pint of what he's had!"
It just turned 2023, the official 60th year, and I probably love this more now than ever. It'll be a very serious situation when this can't crack me up. Remember: *_the bird will always be the word_*
The 60s were a fever dream and I wish I had been there to see it
There should be a 24 hour version of this!
Nicest
Peter Griffin would love it. 😆🦜
Lol yeah
@@dmanigo77 but i am him…

Me TOO HOLY SHIT!!!
Hahaha!!!
Gas station coffee
Absolutely timeless.... shit hits just as hard as 60+ years ago!
Love it. Reminds me when our son played this song endlessly driving his Mum insane doing it. I was at work of course and managed to retain my sanity. LOL
Was your son’s name Peter?
@@PhillyLeotardo25 LOL
Cute story. Kids, eh?
@@PhillyLeotardo25, 😂 Love it!
No one is talking about how easily you can make this video absolutely look and feel incredibly uncanny. Especially when he's spinning in a circle flapping his arms I don't know why but it feels uncanny.
Hey that is André Van Duin a Dutchman wow thats my country😮😮 he made Peter's Favorite Song😮😮😮😮😮😮
I used to leave my AM radio on all night and sleep to it when I was a kid. I woke up thinking that I was having a nightmare for a second but realized the radio was playing the papapapapa ooh mow mow of this song. It was the first time that I had heard this song!
OMG That is absolutely hilarious!
I feel like this is the origin of even today’s alternative rock.
It is. The term "punk rock" was first used in the early 1970s to describe 1960s garage rock records like this. Then, in the mid 70s, it was used to describe new bands that were influenced by those 60s garage bands.
Punk...¡¡¡
the song is catchy! classics never get old
That's because the lyrics are philosophically deep and timeless.
That "Goofy Greats" album I was in love with as a kid (70's) is actually far greater than I ever realized. Absolutely priceless.
His dance is a masterpiece.
Fun fact, that’s the drummer Steve Wahrer doing his best to mimic the manic dancing the trashmen’s singer would do during live performances. They could only afford to send one band member to where the tv show this premiered on was at, Steve drew the short straw.
The Bloomington Roller Rink 1964, and I stood 30 feet from this great band. I thought the teens would go through floor. How I wished I had a dance partner!
Peter Griffin of Family Guy LOVES THIS FREAKING SONG! Its hysterical everytime he starts to sing it on that wonderful tv show. "The Bird" made it to #4 on the billboard hot 100.
DO YOU OR DO NOT KNOW ABOUT THE BIRD?
@@petergriffin911 no I never heard of "THE BIRD" WELL LOL
1963!!! this man is a LEGEND
Incredibile una performance storica, ineguagliabile. I Rapper e i Trash di oggi non sono nessuno in confronto. Ironico, performante, giocoliere e trasformer.😂🎉
Perhaps the most musically complex and beautiful song ever recorded. And lyrically . . . . very deep and reflective. Or Not
+dan casey Try "Hooty Sapperticker." Pure genius.
oh yeah
+Daniel Gunter The entire country went nuts over this song in the Fall of 63. The song is "Surfing Bird" by the Trashmen-a Mpls. group.
Haven't you heard?
Hmm, it was under my impression that EVERYBODY heard…
I love this. When I discovered this, it was stuck in my head for days
yes very catchy
Best song ever
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. Every band should do this. It is deep. Alley OOP by Hollywood Argyles as well.
Alley OOP is one of my all time faves.
@@brianlane9534 Me TOO!!!
yes wash all your BLUES away
The ramones!!!!! Tiene una version
Super rockn rolly!thx!🦧👿🥱🌱🎸🔊🎵🎶😘👍
When ever my mom would say what i listen to is not real music I would point this gem out.
Once my mom told me tripaloski is not real
This song is life - no sense, pure fun. 1:16 is audio sugar at it's finest.
Again, I love repetition!
In the 80s, rock stations in New England would play this song whenever they talked about Larry Bird from the Celtics. My sophomore college roommate had a huge poster of him over his bed.
There's was a guy with green pants, white shirt and glasses who was talking about The Bird 🐦 !
I loved this song when I was growing up and I've been singing it from time to time ever since.
Back when the music, drugs, were awesome
I forgot about this song but something yesterday triggered the memory in my mind and started singing it. My husband thought I was crazy he is older and does not remember it
I wish I could give this million thumbs up. Hilarious political satire. And, the dance...
still better than some these days pop artists
It's better *all* of these days pop artists. Then song may not be the best but it's still good 60s music
+donaldrocks101103 you mean to say baby goo goo gaa gaa isn't as good as this guy? that useless, brainless, talentless broad could touch the trashmen if she worked her entire life
At least it's better than gucci gang xD
Let's see Cardi B do this song.
Muuuuuuuch better
This song defines the wild '60's.
Our dog groans and makes a lot of silly noises. So I love singing the "ooo maw maw maw mah maw" to her. Its HILARIOUS how she reacts.
Grand Father of metal right here
Just how I feel sometimes!!!!!!! 🤣the bird , the word , hmmm? Much expression and meaning in this song. Always a favorite even though it was like many pioneers of music met with some reservations in their day❤
The philosophic clarity here is profound.
Full metal jacket brought me here,! 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
My thoughts exactly!
Family Guy for me.
This music was used in the Vietnam War movie "Full Metal Jacket, "when the Marines attacked the building with the sniper in it.
I remember, but I still don't know the sense of it. You didn't gender correct, since the sniper was a sniper_ess.
Is that U john wayne IS THIS ME!!! .....the joker
The sniper didn't know that the Bird is the word.
This has to be the peak of western civilization
He's speaking the language of the Gods.
This video is hysterical !! I love this music and would still take it over today's music. But when I see these video's, they just crack me up. I don't think you could get away with stuff like this today - In other words, they would just get laughed off the stage. But, I still love the music.
This song is great !!
A early pioneer of chemistry out of Vietnam nam....this is cool as hell
He just walks of stage absolutely awesome this is a presidential candidate right here " I do decree that in these United States of America the bird is the ONLY WORD!, THANK YOU OOM PA PA MOW MOW "
I can’t watch that performance to many times. It’s always great !
forget this dudes energy. what about the drummer's energy. I'm jealous!! lol
He is the drummer! LOL. And yes, his drumming is excellent and punk rock as fuck.
That's what I was thinking to 😱 👍
Anytime that I begin to wonder if society has gone downhill with songs like WAP being popular, I remind myself that this happened and was big for a hot fifteen minutes 60 years ago.
The guy in the video was a Dutch comic and one of the Trashmen. After his performance, he was interviewed by Dick Clark and was so exhausted he could barely speak. (That vid is also on CZcams, somewhere.)
A song which can played ALWAYS!!! Alltime Classic
The best song of the 60s !!!
LEGENDARY comedy song!
Absolutely fuckin classic 👌 deadly time to go out in style 😎
Definitely OG.... And will always be the original with these moves!
Great song!!!
OMG! I can't stop listening to this song over and over. Sooo Catchy!
Yes ladies and gentlemen…we are, in fact, at the top of the food chain
Most beautiful song ever
I want what ever he's having.
LOL! Hilarious--had not heard this song in a very long time!
Pinnacle of music television
This is what a 4 or 5 year should play for parents and run around with the remote making them insane 😎😍 so great music
Que maravilla de cancion y interpretacion.
The word is the bird but if we don't clean up our mess soon there will no bird speaking
On my back porch searching for the birds
This song is incredible, but I can only imagine what the television audience of 1963 must have thought of this. It predates The Beatles’ Ed Sullivan appearance and those lads were starkly mild-mannered by comparison.
My favorite part is," dont you know about the bird, well everybody frickin knows about the bird!" O:-)
This turn on I love it!!
stress reliever☺️
I've Always Loved This Song!!! Now... Seeing The Live Video Was An Absolute Riot!!! "HOW AWESOME/COOL IS THAT!!!" WOW....... Thanks!!! Always ~ Joanne♡
Legendär🤣🤣🤣👍
OMG!!! IS SURFIN BIRD BY THE TRASHMEN THAT'S MY FAVOURITE SONG OF ALL TIME!!!
A BIRD BIRD BIRD THE IS THE WORD!!!!!!!
I typed _'ba ba ba uma mao mao'_ into CZcams and got exactly what i was looking for.
Maravilloso. Es atemporal es para siempre.
I love this song.
GOOD JOB OF VOICE ACTING OF MY FAVORITE CHILDHOOD ANIMATED CHARCTER PETER GRIFFN
I had to get this song as a ringtone.
Freakin'sweet!
While this song achieved success, likely on account of its quirkiness, the Trashmen produced an LP (which I may still have in storage) which, if memory serves, was actually pretty good and showed above average musicianship for the time & genre. I loved it back then. It's still fun.
Hahahahahaaaaaaaaa, yes - this is what was being listened to when I was 16 years old! LOL
🕊 It’s 2022 and The Bird is still the Word! 😁
