- I take a look at five daily driver surfboards to see which one of them would best suit in waves from 2ft slop to 6ft pumping surf.

Great video! - I've tried a lot of daily drivers, all over the world.. Pyzalien 2 is my go to. Similar to your Happy. P2 is great for 2ft soft waves, up to 6ft reasonably powerful waves. However, in big, powerful, barreling conditions, where a stepup is needed, the P2 is too fast. But thats what makes it so fun in normal conditions. It maintains speed, catches waves easy, and gets up and goes... But most of us don't surf massive, powerful conditions that often. That's where a 2 board quiver is nice. The P2 for 90% of conditions, and something with a rounder tail for when it's absolutely firing..
I had a minighost and I kept getting caught in the top of the waves, and it was a little over volumed..Can't recommend that one.
Thanks. P2 was on my long list but wanted to keep it to one Pyzel and the Mini Ghost won out. A lot of people ride the P2 here as well as the Phantom. Cheers.
Nice overview of the boards . Im 55 86kg my daily driver is a 5,11 Cymatic .
I wasn't aware of that one. What an interesting board. What's it like in 6ft waves?
I use the Inferno 72, 6'0", 32 l, and I use the Puddle Jumper Pro 5'10", 31.5 L in beach breaks from 2 to 6 feet. The Puddle Jumper Pro quad is the best, both here, on trips, and in the pool. I am 5'7" tall, weigh 159 lbs, and am 49 years old.
Good to know. The Puddle Jumper had been mentioned to me once, but I didn't consider. Interested to hear that it works well for you across the range. PU or EPS?
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms czcams.com/video/fdpkpyhKOrs/video.html it was in Costa Rica.
I bought a Lost Uber Driver 6'1 35L in January as a good wave board. I surf east coast beachies mainly, not a lot of power and size. It always felt a little big, so I've just pulled the trigger and bought the 6'0 33.5L. Both are Lightspeed epoxy. First surf today on the 6'0 but conditions were too small at waist high. I may have the 6'1 for sale soon if I decide I like the 6'0. It's in mint condition.
Love the breakdown Tui. I'm 49, 78kgs, 184cm.
Cheers, Rich. Glad you're finding the board that suits. Yea, 6'0 is still a touch long in small surf, which is why grovellers have their place.
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms I swapped it out for my 5'8 Seaside 35.4L and had a blast. Far more suitable 🤙🏼🌊
Your video provides a comprehensive overview of available options online. While there may be other brands with similar daily drivers, they may not be able to match the offerings of larger, well-established brands online. Additionally, there's the possibility of opting for the higher-priced JS Carbotune XG, which would be comparable to the CI Eco Carbon Tech Happy ED in terms of construction.
These models would require special orders in NZ, but would offer greater durability as daily drivers in their respective constructions.
They might also have a slight edge in speed when handling smaller conditions.
Thanks, And great additional info for thought for those into construction innovation.
Don’t want to dox your breaks but that first spot sounds like Takapuna reef! What a spot!
@@edawg654 Ha! Never had the joy of surfing there. 😆
My daily driver is album warped pin
Album Warp Twin is a new board to me. Not a twin fin fan but it looks interesting. How does it go in solid 6ft surf?
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms yea warp twin I meant goes great I say solid 6 overhead will work great i rode on a 6 to 8 foot day at a point break but a heavier beach break may not be to ideal here in ca I did surf 4 to 6 blacks and it worked great though
@@Iowa-dy2mi Sounds like a good board for you across the range.
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms I was not either until I rode that one with nvs fins whiner before I had was raging bull js schooner now I’m looking forward to asims like the bon dia
Owesome! What would you pick for days of 4-8 feet punchy epic waves, considering your phisical conditions and beach breaks? I dont think the daily drivers work that good when it gets juicy, probably they tend to float too much and perhaps a more sinky type of boards like with lower rails and pin tail would hold better in those conditions. Im talking for an intermediate to advanced, not a pro surfer....
@@martinb-t2m in NZ I’m happy with my Pyzel Shadow and Ghost on bigger days. I took both to Fiji and found the Shadow didn’t respond well while the Ghost did.
If it’s a hollow wave I would go mini ghost. Sweet for punchy smaller barrels. I wouldn’t ride it on waves any bigger than 8ft though.
@@ElChapo-gz6lo Yea, not really a daily driver. 8ft! What length mini ghost do you ride?
@@tui_ruwhiu_wavecomms5”8 round tail with big ass fins. I really only take it out when it’s steep and hollow. I don’t think I’d consider it a daily driver but it’s a barrel machine when conditions are right!
@@ElChapo-gz6lo Outperforming itself. Well done!
If your getting Xero gravity go easy rider and go shorter
Yea, I've noticed the Easy Rider dims. Good option for more volume for shorter boards. Cheers.
