  • Rules:
    1. Only my starter in battle
    2. No items in battle, except held items
    3. No glitches, exploits, or save states
    4. No movepool evasion-boosting moves before level 100*
    Rule details:
-- I make no attempt to have the exact same rule details between generations.
-- I am allowed to manipulate my starter
-- I play the game at 4x game speed
-- For fair comparisons my Pokemon have perfect (or near perfect) DVs / IVs
-- I am allowed to catch HM users - I can use all field moves
-- Evasion boosting is allowed if the move is not obtained from the Pokemon’s movepool. For example, using Mimic or Mirror Move to boost evasion is allowed.
    -- Surge's trash-can-puzzle is automatically solved
-- The bike is allowed in gen1 & 4, banned in gen2, and allowed only to bypass terrain in gen3
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- I can pause the game and timer to take breaks
-- Items obtained with the ability Pickup can only be used if the starter obtained them
-- The footage is sped up & slowed down to match the pace of my narration
These Rule details apply only to generation 1:
-- All battle-mechanic glitches are allowed (glitches that occur outside of battle are banned)
-- In generation 1, I'm allowed to skip Marowak with the Poke Doll

Hi Scott! Hidden Power Bug would have improved your matchup against Tate and Lisa since it would be super effective against their Claydol, Solrock, and Lunatone. Rock and Ground don’t resist Bug, which is one of the corners of the type chart I have to remind myself of. Hidden Power Bug also maintains super effective coverage against the demon Ludicolo and, as a bonus, can deal more damage to Sidney’s team and Steven’s Cradily and Claydol if the move routing works out.
Fellow Rock-type Tyranitar uses Hidden Power Bug commonly in Generation 3 OU competitive single battles on Tyranitar to hit Celebi (for 4x damage) and Claydol (since it withstands Rock Slide + Earthquake very well).
Hopefully this move can point Nosepass’s new playthroughs *in a new direction*! Because Nosepass is a compass…and points in directions…hah

@@woowchocolate30the reason I recommended hidden power ghost is because it’s probably the best physical attack to use against Steven. It’s super effective against Claydol, neutral against Metagross, Armaldo, and Cradily.
Aggron resists it, but it’s 4x weak to rock smash. Only thing you’d have to worry about is Skarmory, luckily that’s his first mon, so it would have faster resets if it gets too many defense boosts.

This is wonderful, but I have IDEAS.
First, yes, holy cow you should have rollout for Steven. It solves pretty much the entire elite 4 (besides Wallace). At the rate you're going, it essentially has 100% accuracy (you'll just reset if you miss).
You also missed out on using PP Up. That's definitely an option. But I will say HP training was DEFINITELY the right decision. That gargantuan defense means little without a maxed out HP value.
Of course, you should save all your rare candies - don't ever use one when they're is a single trainer anywhere, including the trick house, left to fight!
I think you're going to be very happy if you go Adamant. Shock Wave and Thunderbolt solved no problems for you that couldn't have been solved by either leveling up (in the mid game, battling trainers that you eventually had to battle anyway) or Rollout (late).
Finally, for hidden power I think it's obvious that you can do better. The three psychic Pokémon on the twins' team that gave you trouble all have two physical weakness: Bug and Ghost. I think Bug is probably superior since it has more utility if you choose to keep it for Steven. It also really helps against Sydney.
GL HF and I'm looking forward to the remake 😃

As for suggestions to consider... you could use Hidden Power fire to beat the Skarmory and hit the Claydol neutrally or use HP water to hit the Skarmory neutrally and smash the Claydol, depending on which one is the bigger overall threat, Ice sounds good, but it's resisted by the Aggron and Metagross so if the only trainer you're trying to solve with it is Steven it probably makes sense to pick the type that hits more of his team at least neutrally.

On the topic of onix vs nosepass, onix does actually have 2 major advantages that might be relevant. It is much faster with 70 base speed so it might outspeed even with a speed lowering nature considering the level it needs to grind to, and it gets stab earthquake which against neutral targets is going to be about 50 percent stronger than return.

  • @ZerglingOne1
    @ZerglingOne1 Před 24 dny +1

Scott. You had block and you let an abra get away. You even mentioned you shouldn't make pokéballs 100% because some have advantages.
Block is an advantage for catching an Abra D:
I think Thunder might be the move. It looks like it 1-shots Skarmory. Thunderbolt just doesn't do quite enough damage.m
Another consideration might be a set like this: Defense Curl, Rollout, Rest, Taunt.
Taunt the Skarmory, Defense Curl to +6, Rollout, reapplying taunt when necessary. A lot of the problem seems to stem from getting poisoned by Skarmory, being an automatic 2-turn loss from Rest because you MUST clear toxic. Crits are gonna happen, but Toxic *consistently* messes you up. If you taunt it, it can no longer do such things and is stuck attacking using its terrible offense. But I think there's a problem with rollout strats. See, the first chain probably is a 3-shot on Skarmory, then a 1-shot on Armaldo, then a 1-shot on Cradily. Then Aggron comes out who resists rock when you're just going to start a new rollout chain and starts using Solar Beam.
You can tank 1-2 solar beams and that might get you through aggron with your 5th rollout coming out for Claydol or Metagross. With all that in mind, I don't know if rollout gets you there either. And it's certainly not going to be consistent, as hitting 10 90%s in a row is quite a low chance at only 3%. Nosepass is quite the puzzle.
Another option would be Swagger in the place of Taunt. Boosting the opponent's attack and having them self-inflict could be quite good for Nosepass with harden being available to counter increased attack stages from the opponents. Of course it also comes with some danger. Confusion also has the added benefit of sometimes forcing random moves from AI opponents, thus causing them to sometimes just choose bad moves.

You asked about PP restoring items. I did hoard them now that you mention it but the thing I remember hoarding most was TMs. They always made a point that it was only usable once and i was always afraid I'd use it and then need it later, so essentially I would never use it - just in case. I always just figured out other ways around problems (grinding up a new team member, etc.)
