Hi Gordon! So glad I came across your page. What do you think are the challenges faced by the legal
Industry/law firms right now? Thank you!
so so helpful! Thank you for your advice especially on reaching out to trainees on LinkedIn and interaction with the firm! Would you say even law fairs counts towards interaction if you are unsuccessful when applying for an open day ?
Law fair is the best way to do it in fact as you can literally meet many lawyers at different firms at the same time, so definitely include that in your applications1
Hi Gordon, this was really helpful! I was wondering if there's any disadvantage if i list down what i learned from my work experience in bullet points i.e similar to how it's listed down in a CV?
I heard that some firms are ok with that, but also heard that some firms may think candidates are too lazy and don't even be bothered to write proper paragraphs (so I personally prefer writing a paragraph!)
Just got rejected by NRF in the online test stage after passing the cv screening. I’m a non-law student with only limited experience in some law firm fairs in the uni. Yet I got much resilience and tips from your video and thanks so much !! Hope I can reach you out on LinkedIn !
Can also message me @gordonchung on instagram as it's easier for me to reply messages there
Hello Gordon. Once again, splendid video at giving out tips! Just one quick Q which might be slightly off: if I happen to get a legal intern at an international law firm, what would you advice for perhaps tapping in the opportunities, and equip myself for subsequent TC applications?
I think you should present yourself as a proactive and passionate person. Building connections with the people there. In later applications, you shine explain your experience at that firm in details to show your understand and interest!
This is helpful and you posted this at the right time for me! Can you please talk about vacation schemes? I have no idea what I can expect of it
No worries! What specific part about the VS you want to know?
@@GordonChung I am thinking of applying for a VS to an international law firm, but I don't know what is expected of me, like what I am expected to be doing throughout...
@@Bno_3 I see, I will try to think of content like this!
@@GordonChung Thank you!
Very helpful! Should I mention names of the firms I attended open days in or should I be more describe my experience in general terms?
You can definitely mention the names, I did that too!
Hey Gordon, thanks for the video! Do you know if international students who studied in the UK are grouped under international as well in Legal Cheek or does it only apply to those who did their LLB outside of the UK?
I think so, basically they are those who need visa sponsorships!
This is brilliant! As a law student going into my third and final year, this is extremely helpful. In regards to the cover letters, is there a specific way to structure a cover letter because I was wondering if some of my rejections of VCs stemmed from a poor cover letter. Do you know any good ways to tackle a strong cover letter or a good structure?
Hi, I usually start with why commercial law, then why this firm, finally I will talk about two of three of my best skills (e.g. commercial acumen, analytical skills)
Gordon Chung Oh right! Thank you so much. This is very helpful
Hi Gordon, this is really helpful. Just had a quick question - any clue whether HSF is proud of/ famous for its TMT practice? I am thinking of writing about that in my application hence asking. Thanks in advance :)
For HSF, I think it is a litigation heavyweight - so you may wanna discuss its litigation or international arbitration practice!
@@GordonChung That's helpful. Thank you :)
No worries
I recommend attending their IP open day! Very insightful!
👍👍👍
Thank you
Let’s party Gordon
How to meet u?
