It's been a few years (I don't shop for guns often) but here in Louisiana it really was that easy. Went in, held a few rifles, said I want this one, paid and left.
That's because you did it the legal way. Reacher gets that roll of cash by finding and beating up a drug dealer. If he can figure out who has that kind of cash, he can figure out the one gun dealer who is shady. The feds have a list of where guns used in crimes come from, and his team in season 2 could have accessed that. Now, it would have been more realistic if he just beat up the drug dealers and took their guns, but the author clearly felt this was more interesting.
It doesn't change the fact it's an exaggerated version of reality. It's still far too simple to get a gun. And by that I'm mainly talking about the ignorance aspect. You have more regulations to drive and that's lackluster as it is to say the least. Everyone owning a gun should know basic info on the gun, prove how to properly maintain and handle it. Dude said “sure, ID please” and the customer pulls out a wad of cash and just pretends to look while I walk away. Later he’s asked to leave, produces a license a and the store manager tells the dude a bunch of shit like “don’t worry I can help you, I’ll get it for cash” pretends to send away the original clerk while that clerk proceeds to call the police. I have a full beard, the dudes asked me to show ID and refused to serve me because he thought the kids hanging around next to my car were my brothers friends, my brother was over 18 and the kids literally left in their mums van before he sold me the combo. I can’t be found within an 18 hour time frame with those machete or knife and not have the receipt dated that day, either travelling with or carrying them. Australia is terrible, criminals have no rights to privacy or self defence but they can still deem you a criminal for silly reasons. I had oregano pizza in the back of my car and they used it as an excuse to search my car. While handcuffed on the side of the road, a younger male cop searched me and then pulls my smokes out of my pocket, gives me one then their backup arrives and I say “is that necessary?” He walks up to me, yells in my face “YOU DONT TELL US WHATS NECESSARY” so I blew smoke in his face. The two behind him turned their body cams off and I saw him reach to turn it off so I blurted out “you’re turning your body cam off now?” So he stopped and I ranted about the other two switching them off with the buttons on the left side and they all switched them off. I lit up a cigarette, he tried to get me for “destroying evidence” but it’s fucking impossible to light a cigarette with your hands cuffed behind your back. They waited for the sniffer dogs, after 10 minutes one of them leave and the first cop uncuffs me and says “it’s my lucky day” before speeding off. This wasn’t a scene from 1984 it was Australia 2013 and it has gotten worse since

The koi fish was dry and lifeless we checked the camera to see how long it was out, and it had been out for 14+ hours. He was crying and I sat there with the fish for a minute…then said well shit I want to try and save it, I got the hose and sat there for 45 minutes in the freezing cold running water through its gills, then finally it moved its mouth! It started moving its mouth every minute or 2 then it starting moving more and more often til it finally was moving it every second I put it back in the water and it lived! it was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen or done. As a gun dealer, this is ridiculous. All of these firearms would be logged as inventory on an A&D book, when transferred out of inventory you would need a to fill a 4473 which requires a NICS background check. Dealers are legally required to report the purchase of two or more pistols within a 5 business day period. If he were to try and commit a straw purchase, and 4473 them to himself, they would still have to be reported and would be a huge red flag and subject to an investigation. If the pistols were ever recovered by law enforcement they would be traced very easily to the dealer.
