  • Just a very rushed video of the whole Classics Illustrated Run, although not every edition is shown (some books had over 20 editions) I show a good amount of one of the old underappreciated titles. At the end I also show some other titles that Classics put out as well. This video is not for the faint of heart.

    Thanks for sharing this great collection. My father - Stephen Addeo - was a Colorist, then Illustrator for Classics Illustrated. He worked along side George Evans in the 1960's, and colored George's illustration of Perry Mason. He also did covers for Classic Crosswords, crossword puzzle magazines with illustrated covers. We had all of the the 1960's issues and many of the early editions.

    GM - I LOVE THESE CLASSIS ILLUSTRATED COMICS AND THE COVERS ARE INCREDIBLE! BRIGHT, COLORFUL, FANTASTIC! AND I REMEMBER MOST OF THE WRITERS/ARTISTS WERE NOT MENTIONED INSIDE MOST OF THESE SO I WONDER IF THEY EVER RECEIVED THE APPRECIATION (OR PAY) THEY DESERVED! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR GREAT POSTS - YOU ROCK! TAKE CARE, COMIC MAN GUS

    Very interesting collection, Mica! I don't recall ever seeing the entire series ever shown in one video by one collector. Remarkable! Love the Jules Verne stories as I really enjoyed them as a kid. Just incredible, my friend! Thanks so much for sharing these with us!

    Very impressive collection Mica. I’m a fan of classic literature so I appreciated these perhaps more than most. That Matt Baker cover is gorgeous. Of course the Sci-Fi stories are my most loved.

    Simply amazing!
    Very well paced. Perfect annotations and anecdotes.
    Any person could have a strong basic understanding of traditional stories and glimpses of history absorbing these.. Rather than crash coursing CliffNotes this could instill the wonder and fun of actually learning these plots. Jeopardy contestants for example would do well to have these in their private collections. Not to mention burgeoning minds inquisitive of the proper ammunition to use when dispatching of those finned fiends, sharks.

    Thank you for sharing this most complete comic run video Graphic Man! Classic Illustrated was one of those comic series that got me into collecting. My mother had a stash of them and it was a real treat when she let my brother and I read them- otherwise they were put away! I love the artful, painted covers and the recognizable yellow square logo.

    What a video! I love these books and I wish I had a greater appreciation for them 50 years ago! The covers are beautiful! I have a few, but not like this? Incredible!! Can you be a completest with this?

    • @GraphicManComics
      @GraphicManComics  Před 2 lety +1

      If you mean having one copy of every edition ever made...? Some titles had 20 editions, but the only difference being the HRN (High Reorder Nuimber) listed on the back cover. I suppose that would lead to you getting about 800 books (I'm guessing at the total number). Or a more rational "completest" would get one Line Drawn and One Painted cover in which case I would still need to pick up about 7 or so books. ( For example I only have the painted cover for Kidnapped)

    Wow! I've never seen another collector showing the full run of Classic Illustrated! That's a pretty impressive feat! This series has always seemed very confusing to follow to me, with multiple editions, prices, covers... I've certainly learned quite a few things with this video, so I'm very grateful for this. I agree with you about the painted covers being much nicer to look at in general. But the line drawn ones are the original and older editions right? And they sometimes have material that is censored in later editions (such as #12 that doesn't have the Headless Horseman part in later editions). That is something to consider when buying an edition: do i go for the beautiful painted cover or the line drawn one with more material? I only have a few Classics Illustrated that I got in a big western themed lot on Ebay a few years ago. I'll have to pull them out to see which editions I got. Thank you for making this video and showing them all to us!

    • @GraphicManComics
      @GraphicManComics  Před 2 lety +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed it. And speaking of differences in editions, the Rip Van Winkle story early on had Rip jumping up in the air and kicking together his heels with delight, when he was told the news that his cranky old wife had passed away while he slept for twenty years, but in the newer version he does not show that same reaction. This was obviously toned down.

  • @movieworldcomics242
    @movieworldcomics242 Před 2 lety +1

    Wonderful, wonderful video! That is a very cool run to have completed. I like both the painted covers and the hand-drawn ones. How many of those comics have you read the actual novels for? I have only 14 issues of Classics Illustrated, several of which are pretty beat up, and two of them are missing the cover. They were given to me by my father, from his childhood. But I would like to get more issues, particularly the ones based on Wells and Verne stories.

    Wonderful collection Mica and a lot of cool facts about the series. You note that some of the covers changed as time moved along but I wonder if any of the stories or content changed as well?

    • @GraphicManComics
      @GraphicManComics  Před 2 lety

      Yes, for example the Rip Van Winkle story had a cranky wife, and when Rip woke up 20 years later they told him his wife was dead. Rip leaps with excitement and is happy at this news. The later reprint by a different illustrator shows a more subdued reaction.
