Remember seeing this when it was first aired ...watching it these days,I can't actually believe this was a real programme lol. The cars, the people.. It could be an episode of league of gentleman!
This was aired in the 90s? Why didn't I get to watch this!? Maybe it wasn't aired in the Highlands. Either way, not much has changed sadly as you still get clowns on the road.
Thanks for uploading. This is a blast from the past 😆Omg...I remember watching this ehen it first aired. Poor Dave. Maureen nearly had them both killed 😵💫😵
I remember watching this when it first aired in the 90s. I remember distinctly seeing Paul when he said "I make less than eight grand a year and my wife, if she works really hard will make two quid packing up those nails" and thought "wow, being an adult is shit"
I love Joan and Maureen. Poor Maureen she doesn’t give up but bless her she doesn’t have any special awareness judge of distance and always forgets to check her mirrors. Drivings not for everyone
I was having a laugh over how dated this was (i thought late 70s) until I saw the mobile. Its from the late 90s so I would have been about 10 when it was filmed. God I'm old
Thanks so much for putting this series up! I have been wanting to re-watch these for ages but could never find anything except clips. The comedy factor is great and who doesn't love Maureen?!
I can't lie that woman taking her test was hilarious. She was in neutral for like 2 minutes and then she said "We're going straight ahead at the traffic lights" when the examiner CLEARLY said to turn right TWICE. How the hell she passed is beyond me. They must have fabricated that for the show.
Heh - I remember this being on TV, it feels like no more than five minutes ago, but watching it in 2016 it all looks SO DATED! The cars all look like old bangers, the title sequence is so kitsch and low-budget it's hilarious, and although mobile phones were evidently starting to take off (even if they were still just Nokia bricks), at the same time there were still loads of people who didn't have a landline, and had to go out to a phone box like Danny every time they wanted to make a call! (I was one of them... it sounds so inconvenient now, I'm amazed I managed to hold out until 2002 before getting my first mobile!)
It's from 1997. I look at old footage from 2006 and it looks totally dated as well, despite feeling totally normal at the time. Amazing how quickly the world changes.
@4:48 I had that happen to me last year with my late dad, we were heading home from Raigmore hospital and just got onto the dual carriageway when this very light silver/white car pulled out in front by mere inches. Thank God modern brakes are good because it would have been back to the hospital for me and my dad. Check your mirrors and blind spot before pulling out for fck sake!
Maureen Rees is a Pisces. She has probably never driven with her husband let alone on her own after passing the test. That Lada estate J978TBO only lasted until 1999, eight years old, not long after this televison series finished in 1997.
I think this was a show not a doc because you can see him smileing after he grabs the wheel plus I saw a vid must of been after this was done and maureen looks younger then she does in this
OMG I'm watching this cos I thought it would be a laugh as I'm close to my test and I remember this and I'm fucking crying! Their lives are so depressing I can't handle it! 😧
If I was the examiner I would have failed Joan, she clearly wasn't ready. Fair enough in the test she did not commit any dangerous or serious faults and committed less than 15 minor faults, however I would have found something to fail her on, at the end of the day as an examiner what you say pretty much goes and there is nothing that can be done to change the outcome.
I remember how popular this was, I can’t believe how old it looks now!
The programme that made me want to become a Driving Instructor!! 21 years on and I've had a few like Maureen! haha
That dog is probably the best driver of them all.
And £5000 on lessons?! That's a ridiculous amount of money even now. Back in the 90s it was HUGE.
£14/hour
In Switzerland, if you can’t pass a driving test after a 3rd attempt then it is advised that you seek a psychologist for evaluation.
@@fretboardmaster70 So how does the psychologist's evaluation help?
@@fretboardmaster70a maths teacher told me I needexy to see a psychologist he says I have a mental block.
Maureen randomly popped into my head so had to find this immediately 😂
😂Same thing just happened to me.

Poor Dave Rees. His reaction showed he clearly thought he was about to get an express ride to the pearly gates!!
Bloody hell! I yelled NOOOO!!! at the same time he did! :D
She could have been off!
4:50 “Woooooooooh!” Yes Dave, I too lent back in my chair while watching!
I remember this .I was 21 at the time in 1997 and just passed my test in a manual after my 5th attempt.
'He's moving out'. 'Well of course he is!'. Cracks me up everytime😂😂😂
Cracks me up how the dog is in the front seat, while he tells her what he’s doing. Yeah, that’ll work 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
is it even legal to have the dog sitting there
in those days it was. now it has to be restrained

@M J cheers! I'll have a look to see if I can find the episodes in question.
In part it's because they're all driving cars that were old at the time.
Maureen= LEGEND!!!
Driving School Episode 1 On Tuesday 10th June 1997 On BBC1.
That Dulux is the star for me. Just sitting there knowingly.
I love it that the Dulux is now the name for the Old English Sheepdog
I literally thought that they were going to tell us Dany skates 200 miles
that would be love.
Haha! that would make his feet sore... but I thought the same...=get yer skates on!...what era was this?...1990's?
To be honest I thought that when I first seen it made me laugh I thought he cannot skate 200 miles
@@Oakleaf700 Summertime 1997.
I thought the same lol
Maureen's Lada - last taxed July 1999.
The Datsun - August 2000.

4:50-5:01: that would’ve been the same reaction my instructor would’ve given me if I ever did that
The dog is hilarious. I almost expected it to chip in a comment.
i bet it can follow instructions better than its owner
‘After today’s dance with death’ 😂

Her husband must have had countless heart attacks
Hahaha Maureen on her own in the theory test room
This is so good at creating tension on such an anodyne subject
We need an update on all these people.. like NOW please
hahahahaha i had forgotten this series. it will always be known for the hopeless Maureen.

7:57-8:15 That conversation made me laugh out loud.
Goodness..the streets are so EMPTY.......those were the days!

I’d love them to make a new series all these years later.
100%
I LOVE THIS EPISODE POOR DAVE REES
That Cardiff accent when they're arguing!!!!😂😂😂😂

Can't believe it's only 5 years old in the show. It had a hard life!! :-)
Brilliant programme,I loved this,I could av been of ya silly sod,She hasn't got a bloody clue
Well done Joan and never mind Maureen., keep trying Girl x
Maureen When setting off with Dave she didn’t once check her mirrors or blind spot
The dog 😂😂😂
What feels crazy is that this was life in the 1990s, it looks so dreary.
To think Danny is in his 40s now!
"As a Christian it's our duty to give a tenth of our income to God." Does he take cheque or BACS?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ha ha I mentioned this series in my GCSE English Language mock GCSE.
whos watching this in 2019 because they have passed there test 1st time meeeeeee....lol
@Game over, man. Game over! ok like this was a year ago.....lol
This looks OLD!!!!!This was made in 1997, it's only 2021 now, so I think it looks older than its age! Things have changed a lot since then!
Yes, I'm Welsh and, "yes, my name is Maureen Rees" but I'm not this lady.
You sure lol ?
No one asked you if you were.
rlp rlp
Not on this site. Hence the post “BEFORE you ask”.
You see, it’s not rocket science; now is it?
Maureen Rees
Anyone making such an assumption is in need of an eye test. You are one extremely beautiful woman and have perfect Welsh, Celt, features.
Neal Robert Eade
Thank you very much. I'm extremely flattered.
Has anyone remarked upon your resemblance to Richard Gere?
When Maureen Reese is driving at 4:58 what does she mean when she says she could have been off?
She means she could have been in the right-hand lane and free to carry on in that lane. As we can see, that clearly would not have been the case.
Maureen became famous enough to appear on the Jay Leno show haha
4:49 Maureen was just making sure her husband will still awake and alert
just love Maureen could been away !!!!put years on her hubby lol
Those streets are empty. I didn't know traffic wasn't busy out there in England.
Changed a lot in the 23 years since this show!
Fucking hell Joan! Get it in DRIVE!
I wonder if Maureen ever passd her test.
She did! On her seventh attempt
Sliding into your DMs like 4:46
You can’t teach someone to drive by making them sit in the back seat. Why is the dog sitting upfront?
Pam's "I'm gonna take the boy and you can have the girl," is kinda creepy and really not a good idea.
Wow! giving 10% of your income to the church........ that is a heck of a lot.
An examiner in a suit and tie
Maureen threw the failed theory test result at The Postman.
Watching this in 2021 lol funny stuff.
The WORLDS loudest bedroom clock
Pam Car?! Did I hear that right?
Reminds me of when my Nan who took a few attempts to pass,
I didn’t know that Bernard Breslaw drove a 14yr old Datsun……..
Tyres buzzing the kerb.

😢noone remembers anyone except maureen😂😂😂
25:52 Thought Maureen was going to fall off her chair!
We all know a Maureen
Maureen would have been 55 years old here.. she looks more nearer 70
she is 81 or 82 now and her husband still kicking i believe.
It’s like watching an episode of the office. Every cliche in the book
That Pam women sounds like the voice actor in Bob and Margaret.
What year was this filmed?
It aired in 1997, but looks more 80's
It doesn't look 80s at all! Looks very 90s.
The fashion sense and hairstyle of the boy (Danny) look very mid 90s. Baggy jeans and bomber jacket!
Yep that was me in that Bomber Jacket and Baggy Jeans!
1997 😀
Filmed in 1996. Broadcast in 1997.
Maureen was just making sure her husband was still awake

2:18 dog in front of car hmm not sure that's a good idea...vision blocked to an extent

Is this real or scripted? I honestly can't tell :D

that's kinda sad then. this whole show is so dreary :D
rmay000 I thought it was quite enjoyable to watch personally.
+rmay000 it wasn't dreary it was funny Maureen is a great character
They both still look the same
