It's a good deal. For budget travelers, getting your laundry done, sleeping, etc. while you are enroute makes sense. The food looks tasty enough, especially that karage and the fish cake. Six hundred yen for the beer seems steep, but yeah-I would pay it.

Japanese food is often not to my liking (very "western" sometimes lol), but the food choices here look great. I love the natural Japanese way of having little bits of everything. Much nicer than one big plate of the same food :) Loving all your videos seeing parts of Japan I probably would not see as a tourist. I don't drink alcohol these days, but I LOVED the beer vending machine. Not just straight pour - no no. Varied angle pour to avoid foamy beer, but a perfect "head" from another nozzle. Japan - the country where surviving from vending machines is not that painful :) I still remember the excellent vending machine canned iced coffee I had in Japan !

Wasn't sure if I would get it through but I did declare it. Upon questioning from the quarantine officer I opened one package of Natto. One sniff and 5 seconds later I got the all clear and told to move on and move on quickly. It was so funny. Natto certainly has what can only be described as a unique smell. Still, on rice with an egg totally delicious.

    • @shibatravel
      @shibatravel  Před 2 lety +3

      It's a point that I, a Japanese person, don't notice.
Curry rice is usually served on a large plate with half the space for rice and half for curry.
And we eat rice and curry in our favorite balance.
If we serve rice and curry in this small bowl, the rice will all taste curry.
All-you-can-eat includes sashimi and Japanese food. Curry-flavored rice doesn't go well with sashimi.
Therefore, many people put curry in a bowl of miso soup.

Great Video, Shiba 🐾. Laura in Atlanta, here.
Nice and long!! "Moet at Chandon...in her pretty cabinet..." Nice homage to the late, beautiful Freddie Mercury. You do so much more than just show a few scenes of the ship. You take your time, adding fun, hidden, thought provoking film or music bits. You're the only one doing this and I find myself looking forward to the next video! Thank you!! (Oh and I love the paw print by your name! )Do you have dogs and cats at home? Maybe you can share something about them sometime. You have many dog and cat owners as subscribers including myself!

Hi Laura. I'm glad you noticed Queen's music. Freddie Mercury is one of the legend. Unfortunately I don't have a dog or a cat. But I want to keep it someday.

Excellent vid, as all of yours are. Just something which popped in my head after watching your videos only now: Are the fares same prices for locals as well as tourists (meaning foreign tourists) or is there a variation, as I've found in some European countries?

I checked it now. It's the same price on the English website.

Never had shark jerky but have had moose and reindeer jerky. Tastes like beef!

I visited Hokkaido for three weeks in January 2005 for a joint US-Japan military exercise at Camp Higashi-Chitose. I went into Chitose twice and on a Saturday night to Sapporo. I loved the trip despite being there mostly on military business. Now that I am semi-retired, I hope to visit again in 2023 or 2024! To borrow a phrase, I would visit Japan “in a New York minute.”

Is it customary to use cash(paper/coin currency) to pay for most things? Here in the US I tend to use a bank/credit card for most my purchases. I really enjoy your videos!

Thank you. Credit card communication environment is difficult to connect at sea. So maybe it can only be used in cash.

The food looks good! Lots of vegetables and soy! I worry about avoiding meat, poultry and fish/seafood if I go to Japan.

Unfortunately from what I've been told on other channels, a lot of vegetable dishes are flavoured with fish based broths or sauces, so vegetarian food is a little more difficult to find. Which is a shame... although it does exist in many places.

According to IMDb, the movie (26:18) is "Those Who Wish Me Dead." "A teenage murder witness finds himself pursued by twin assassins in the Montana wilderness with a survival expert tasked with protecting him -- and a forest fire threatening to consume them all."
