    The full version is my ABSOLUTE favourite. Christopher Lee's reading is fantastic.

      I love that legend, but alas it’s not part of the published Silmarillion. 😔

    Mae govannen!
    Guess what part of Silmarillion made me cry, when I was a teen?

    Turin is the most “human” of the mannish people with all their inherent flaws .
    But seems to accomplish what few Men or Elves ever could.
    I think he did not return to Doriath because after the incident with Saeros is because he saw that dark side of Elves and no longer felt truly welcome.
    My favorite character.

    I was wondering what Toby Mcguire was doing these days.

    Have you ever considered using the audio in your videos for a podcast? I listen more than watch your videos and I think it would be really cool to have a Tolkien podcast out there.

      Someone else suggested the same thing and I might, but there are already tons of Tolkien podcasts out there if you look. Try the Tolkien Professor podcast. Great stuff.

    I read the Unfinished Tales. Does the Children of Húrin add to that story?

      CoH is mostly based on the UT version but with additions from other versions to make up for what it’s missing due to being unfinished. So technically you get all of the story if you read UT and the Silmarillion and maybe some of the History of Middle-earth, but CoH is the only place to find one full coherent narrative that’s more detailed than the published Silmarillion.

    I loved Beren and Luthien but always had a tough time getting through this chapter. Doesn’t seem quite like a lot of bad decisions or a tragic character, just a lot of unexpected setbacks.

    Jesus christmas this book is depressing lol. I Love it, it's great storytelling, but these all come off as VERY Shakesperian in their endings

    Is it mentioned anywhere how would Finduilas save him from the Curse? Would they be like Beren and Luthien, with fate stronger then Morgoth?

    • @TolkienLorePodcast
      @TolkienLorePodcast  Před 5 lety +1

      I don’t think it’s ever explicitly said, but if I had to guess I’d say that Finduilas would just generally be a good influence on him and would be enough to satisfy him, so that he wouldn’t go out and do more crazy things. Because a lot of what he does has roots in the fact that he didn’t have his family from a young age.

      But the wouldn't the Curse (I don't know why I use capital c...) just find another way to act? He did not seek adventure after it anyway, but the curse sent him his sister and Glaurung.

    • @TolkienLorePodcast
      @TolkienLorePodcast  Před 5 lety +2

      Arguably his active participation in leading the Men Of Brethil in battle as well as his failure to follow Finduilas in the first place were the causes of that, though. It’s hard to say ultimately, because it’s not even clear how much of his misfortune is the curse versus his own poor choices. That complexity is part of what makes the story so fascinating.

    To be honest that chapter is too much long.
    Ok,there is beren and luthien chapter that is 5 pages shorter,but it is far more interesting and less dense.
    But damn,children of hurin novel is the best tolkien book.
    After lotr, obviously.
