  • Reinstalling the rear wheel. Search ebay for a 'belt tension gauge' to buy a cheaper sprung version which will allow you to check the belt tension before and after.
    Price around 25 quid.
Incidentally Yamaha recommend measuring from the rear of the swinging arm (on both sides) to the rear face of the belt adjusting block - not the front face as I talk about in the video.

Ok the tyres are Michelin Pilot Road 4 Scooter Front 120/70 R15 TL 56H, and Michelin Pilot Road 4 Scooter Rear 160/60 R15 TL 67H.
I've been enjoying them - they are very grippy, I can scrape the stand on both left and right corners depending on camber etc. i.e. they never feel like they will slip away to be honest. They are pretty neutral, I would say if anything I noticed initially they are slightly slower on turn in (on the front), so have a very slight tendency to want to run wide (I'm exaggerating though), but quickly adapted and now I don't notice. I assume just a slightly 'rounder' profile than the Bridgestones.
Had a few wet days and they have been fine, can still slip like any brand if reckless. Having said that I can definitely brake hard in the wet so they must be doing something right. My main hope is that they wear well, as the middle is meant to be a harder compound than the edges, and I know on motorbikes people have been getting great wear out of PR4 tyres.

How well are those Mich pilot road tires on a scooter? Got the same pairs on my z1000. Not sure how it would be on a tmax

I wonder if using a sacrificial plastic zip tie to help keep the caliper bracket in place, then cutting the zip tie after the wheel in place.

Good video. Thank you for not editing out the wheedling you had to do to get the brake bracket, wheel and axle aligned. What was that instrument you used to determine the belt tension and how does it work? Your belt looked a bit dry. Have you discovered 303 Aerospace Protectant? It keeps rubber and plastic parts like new. I've been using it for years. It really works.
p.s. I am so jealous... the newest model of TMax, has cruise control and other features that I'd be willing to trade in my 2006 Majesty for but Yamaha is no longer importing it into the USA.

It runs a few kilometers on this strip, so it reaches 3000 kilo meters before it is consumed

I have 66 plate tmax 530abs. Purchased the bike from Yamaha last year 3 months old with only 160miles on the clock. I've noted a whining noise coming from the lower rear section of the bike when I let go of the throttle when slowing down. Secondly when starting up cold in the morning the noise from the engine is slightly tapping away until warmed up. Both issues I addressed with Yamaha and they said it's seems ok to them. I haven't driven another tmax to compare, would you be able to comment at all ? Regards Tom

Faltou ensinar a montagem do sensor do abs que encaixa nessa peça movel que segura as pinças de freios que é bem mais difícil...It remained to teach how to assemble the abs sensor that fits into this moving part that holds the brake calipers, which is much more difficult.😮😮😮😢😢

    Hi!
would you please suggest a paritcular manual belt tension device (from e-bay) as you mentioned at 20quid? The issue is there are lots of them on e-bay, seems to be OK for manual metering of the belts , but sellers do not know whether they will good for Tmax 530.
    Thank you for your advisce.

I was thinking one like this, but use it first to read the old belt tension before you take it off to give you a similar reading to put new belt on with. I haven’t used one so can’t guarantee it will fit but I reckon it would www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cambelt-Tension-Timing-Belt-Gauge-Car-Engine-Tension-Cam-Belt-Gauge-Universal/262441710957?hash=item3d1abeb56d:g:EckAAOxyRhBS2hSQ

So, would it be possible to change the rear tyre without having access to a tension gauge?

    • @530tmax
      @530tmax  Před 5 lety

You could measure the blocks with calipers beforehand, (write measurement down) and put back in the same place. Or search ‘belt tension gauge’ on ebay and buy a cheap manual one - measure old belt tension before you remove it.

Tmax Thanks for the quick reply! Good idea. I probably have to change the rear tyre today, so ordering a tensioner tool from eBay is not going to be possible. I’ll do the caliper thing, and hope for the best!
