Thanks for sharing! Im going to Oahu with a gal and she was raised there but it's been awhile. Im into soul food just like you recommended. 6 days of new friends beers and beaches. Around Bend. Oregon out!
If you crave ramen/saimin,GOTTA go to Shiro's in Aiea, across from Best Buy, just down the road from Pearlridge SC. When in C Oahu, look/ask for Shige's saimin stand in Wahiawa or Mililani Restaurant and/or Maile Chinese Restaurant. It ALL depends on what you're hungry for. Keep an open mind/palate!
As someone that has roots to the islands but doesn’t consider themselves an islander although have grown up on one, (Yes, I’m a walking contradiction) I found this completely resourceful. Much aloha and a warm Hafa Adai
Best Garlic/Mochiko Chicken in my opinion is Sugoi's and I think this place is still mostly locals because it isn't the easiest place to find. Whenever I come back to Hawaii this is one of the top places I have to visit.
I miss Mitsu Kens!!Oh i miss that place!!The garlic chicken!!Ooohhh!!!Masu's,Karen's Kitchen,Queen's BBQ.Well that was years ago...I live here in Vegas now which is the 9th Island to us Hawaiians.
Going for fourth time Waikiki Sept . Good advice and less expensive than hotels. I eat Hawaiian Food from mainland chains . Will be near Royal Hawaiian Center and heard of Roman options and poke.
If you ever want really good grinds, I highly Kahai Street Kitchen! They're a little hole-in-the-wall, across the street from Long's Moilili. You can't miss it. I reccomend you phone order though, because parking is a pain to find there, but it's worth it! They basically make gourmet versions of local favorites like chicken katsu and mahimahi plate. It's surprisingly affordable. Just thought I'd share :)
Following to see everyone's input. Going there May 27th through June 5th. Don't want to rent a car, so I hope I can take public transport to these places.
I've always heard paying a little extra to rent is better since traffic is so bad and you have to go by there pick up times and what not. Were going sometime in October :)
Mitsu~ken has delicious food but so do Mitsuba Delicatessen and Gulick Delicatessen and both are also in Kalihi. Mitsuba and Gulick don't have owners embroiled in abuse convictions. The owner is a criminal of the lowest form who blackmailed a male student in the most horrific way and victimized him repeatedly. Google it.
Funny you mention that. I was just thinking same. Fresh Catch poke also someplace I no longer go. Owner beat his GF and murdered her dogs. She had to move away to avoid this loser. He should be in prison, where he can get the love he deserves.
Nooooo...you gave up all the secrets what are we locals going to do!!!???@@??! I think i'm going to drown my sorrows in a big bowl of Kara Miso Ramen at Kazan Ramen
Great video. Finally a CZcams video not focusing on plate lunches only. Food court type food. But what about for the real Hawaiian foods Hawaiian's wouldn't touch. Money is no object. W/o sounding like a douche...where to Hawaii's elite go for "real Hawaiian food" (not that you can't find "good food" in plate lunches). That aren't "fusion Hawaiian foods (e.g. mixed with Thai, Chinese...etc. influences). Or, is "true Hawaiian" food very casual and only found in fast food type restaurants? Just as there is foods Chinese wouldn't eat or go to where 99% of the patrons are not Chinese. :) I'm sure there are these types of restaurants for every culture in every big city.
Yesssss. You hit ones of my faves !!
Thanks enjoyed your video they all looked delicious
Good video... Thanks a bunch. 😇
Casey Rowe she disclosed all the local places to all the white people
Love that side street inn!! Gotta try that ramen spot and Mitsu-Ken! Any suggestions to rival Boots and Kimos other than yogur story?
