Schiffman, Ph.D., will discuss "Messages From the Dead Sea Scrolls" and introduce the new and groundbreaking collection of which he is one of the editors - "Outside the Bible, Three-Volume Set: Ancient Jewish Writings Related to Scripture." (December 5, 2013)
His explanation of Enoch being an explanation of parts of the bible is pure speculation on his part. It is his way of dismissing it as having been deemed scripture by the writers of the scrolls.
1 Enoch is referenced more than 100 times by Jesus and the writers of the NT. This means they clearly considered it to be inspired/scripture. This also suggests they were Essenes themselves.
Lawrence appears to be reading what he believes rather than believing what he reads. He is trying to make the scrolls fit into his worldview model rather than allowing the evidence to change his worldview.

I strongly disagree that there is no mention or reference to John the Baptist. Because John the Baptist actually wrote at least one portion of the scrolls entitled the Thanksgiving Hymns, or Thanksgiving Scrolls. For it perfectly describes John when we include a non-canonical NT writing called the Protevangelion (Gospel of James).
Consider the following.
The writer of the hymns tells us his father did not know him.
The Protevangelion tells us John's father (Zacharias) was murdered by Herod's henchmen when he refused to turn over his infant son when all males under 2 years of age were being killed. It goes on to say that his mother fled into the hills (wilderness) with him. Jesus confirms this story when he says this generation would be held accountable for the murders of all the prophets from the time of Able to Zacharias.
The writer of the hymns also speaks of his nurse bringing him up and his mother abandoning him. As Elizabeth was late in age when she gave birth to John and was now a widow, it follows that she left John with the sect known as the Essenes who lived in the hills/wilderness. As John was from the line of Aron, he would have been well received.
The writer also speaks of persecution and fetters. And we know John himself was persecuted and placed in Jail.
There is also a prophecy in the scrolls that approximately 40 yrs. after the death of the Righteous Teacher (John), warriors who return to the wicked liar would be destroyed. Well, as it turns out, around 68 A.D. some of the Essens rebelled against Rome and took a stand in the caves. Archeologists have discovered the Romans laid siege to the caves and eventually dug tunnels into them. So the prophecy fits the events of John's death and the siege against Essene warriors.
Jesus also quoted a passage in the scrolls that is not found in the bible. This then tells us Jesus held the Essenes and their writings in high regard, suggesting he was either himself an Essene or that he spent a good deal of time among them. Considering the fact though that they were a secretive and strict sect that did not allow outsiders to read the most sacred texts, it is highly unlikely that Jesus was a visitor who dropped by from time to time. No. In order to be quoting the Redemption and Resurrection Scroll, it is save to say Jesus was also an Essene who came from the sect that wrote the scrolls.

One woman is pointing towards the other woman showing Immanuel was to go with his first mother to the heavens at time of birth to be instructed by His heavenly Father. There are other paintings by Leonardo that tell this bible truth furthering accurate knowledge of truth.

Best thing is to pray to The Almighty that you want to know The Truth, not interpretations of translators who use their imagination to fill in the gabs in the text. Pray and beg The Almighty in the name of His Son, The Son of man, The Savior of our soul, spirit and body, not to be fooled by lying spirits! You can read in 1 Kings chapter 22 verse 22 and 2 Tess. chapter 2 verse 9 - 12 about those lying spirits. People who abuse, take advantage of weaknesses of others, who earn money with cheating, who kill and bomb innocent people, have no empathy for others, who don't have mercy for their fellow man, CAN NOT HAVE THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, mostly their are wolves in sheep clothing. Actually may have been shaimus to be disposed by burial under orthodox laws. It should be noted that NO Jewish research was allowed to study scrolls until 1992! Catholic and Christian scholars had a lock down on them....are we positive in 40years they didn't ( by mistake of course) alter or lose anything along the way...book of Isaiah shows original Hebrew Tanakh accurate....thingaboutit !
when the scrolls were first discovered by a local his wife used some of them as kindling in their stove to cook on they had no idea what they had in their possession so god knows how much was burnt or what else was written

The most important messages are written in all non biblical texts! Bible maybe correct, but not complete, thanks to the early Roman christian church who composed the bible accepting only what connected their own vision, not Gods nor Yeshua's. By reading and examinating only bible, you will not know everything, neighter the true messages ever given by Yeshua. Btw: bible is based on the Dead Sea scrolls, that's a fact. Then we have the Nag Hammadi scrolls, apocrypha, lost and hidden books, and finally the lost gospel of pistis sophia: who all teaches the real and only true gospel of Yeshua. Bible's gospels are all quiet the same biographies of Yeshua with some sayings, but not all sayings who mankind has to know to be saved as Yeshua means we would! It makes sense that Jewish sholars would intensively study these scrolls written by men who were after all Jews. Yes, they will have a different interpretation of them than Moslems and Christians, who find Mohammed and Jesus even if they aren't present so that all these Babylonian confusions can contnue forever...

Funny I've wondered the same thing, YWHW is a God of war & wrath whereas Jesus seems so different!! Sometimes I think maybe the "fall of man" was when we were tricked into taking human form & enter the material realm, thus being "separated" from God the original creator... Rick Worth You misread me. I said he dreamt BEFORE he poured oil on the stone. In fact BECAUSE he had had that dream in that place. Eastern mysticism has nothing to do with the Bible story. Yahweh appeared to Jacob in a dream:

Jacob slept in a certain place with a stone for a pillow under his head. Yahweh appeared to Jacob in a dream and confirmed the promise he had made to Abraham and Isaac. So then Jacob set the stone upright, poured oil on it (anointed it) and renamed the place from Luz to Bethel.
The Bible - or the Old Testament in this case - needs to be interpreted in its own context. Jacob wasn't some mystic. He believed in Yahweh and followed him.
