- This F90 BMW M5 Competition traveled from the Red Ball Garage in NYC to the Portofino Hotel & Marina in 25 hours 57 Minutes. While that might not be a new record, it is the fastest time set outside of any covid lockdowns in place. With its 60 gallon fuel cell, night vision camera, and police avoidance systems, this car is designed to go fast for as long as you can stay awake.

Have y’all ever had any animals jump out in front of y’all that would scare me lol
Blue Lives Matter sticker is effective but a sheriffs plate is wayyyy more effective 🫡
So not the fastest
How is the engine ware after the rpm’s that high that long if the rpm’s that high the oil wares away faster?
Wha hey
Cannonball, and its cars, are absolutely wild. Probably the best planned and orchestrated bad idea in the history of motoring

This is a beautiful take 😂😂
All Cannonball cars must be sent to Tedward for review after completion of the run. This is the new gold standard for cannonballing.
High praise! Thank you
Nice job Fred
I couldn't agree more
@@TedwardDrives What's the brand and model of the GPS Police Scanner you used? I need a couple.
Also, what's the HP of the car? Was it a stock motor?

It’s really cool to see how countermeasures and accessories are now miniaturized compared to earlier runs. Looking forward to podcast.
Are there videos explaining how they work?
@@JOAOPENICHE Yes.
If they release a full video of the run i can already see myself watching full 25 hours of it 😂
no seriously, someone keep me updated
@@jaycrzy5737 I don't need to see a 25 hour video, but I'd love to see at least an hour of one of these runs
@MennyDream yeah,i've seen it but it's a voice over, wanna get a first person footage, with engine sound and conversations in car. that would be dope :D ty for the reply tho
I would fucking love to see the whole video! I mean, man - a whole tour through the US in 25hrs. Why not. As an not american I would appreciate it
Fr same here someone keep me updated and posted if yall find one!!
*Of course the California freeway screwed this up lol*
Hmm. Never considered clogged California freeway traffic as a safety precaution...
In germany cannonball would be: you drive 180mph. And somehow a car gives you flashlights and tell you to make space. lol
No, in Germany you drive on the right lane and don’t block other drivers in the first place. If you follow the rules, nobody will need to flash you.
@@juzoli no in Germany you won’t be doing 180 in the right lane, dumbass

@@waddyhirshy2989 no you're probably thinking of traction control
Not a chance in hell these guys don't run it again in the spring. Hope their future runs go as safely as their previous.
Sub 24 hours. The current record holders had a couple hiccups along the trip that set them back a bit so its possible imo.
Eventually they’ll get pulled over. No way you can continuously do this without getting caught.
@@squidwardshouse67 you’re aware these guys literally have spotters in Cessnas miles ahead scoping out the freeways with FLIR etc, I don’t disagree but I argue it’s a lot harder for these guys to get jammed up then your average joe
@@barmonavirus I know but we’re talking about a country wide radius. It’s very hard to get every mile covered and cops can hide themselves very very well.
@@squidwardshouse67 a stationary cop getting passed at 200mph often won't even attempt a pursuit. They can call it in but it's actually very hard to coordinate before they're in a new state
Passing the American motorist at speed makes me very nervous. Not sure how they can pull of these speeds for 25 hours. I appreciate your comments about the risks of cannonball.
I agree, at 60mph you have idiots change lanes without looking. Like turning on a turn signal gives you the right to change lanes without looking.
Same. I'm happy to go over 100 when there's barely anyone around me but my biggest fear is other drivers not paying attention.
@@franktank9573 Lol for real, I'm more scared of those idiots you talk about than speeders who are aware and know how to drive.
@@franktank9573 what about when you turn on your signal and look and its clear but you don't realize the guy coming up on you is going 120mph so the lane that was clear 2 seconds ago now is not...I enjoy watching the runs but its crazy to think people driving 60 should be also trying to look way behind them to see if someone is going double the speed limit coming up on them before swapping lanes...one can glance and see no one and go to change lanes and then oh shit! Idc if someone going 60 changes lanes and causes an accident that way, id still argue its the guy going 120mph flying up on them so quick that caused the accident.
I like how you added American. In Germany this isn’t a problem.
"Yo they're flying"
At 160?! We activate cruise control at that speed. 🇩🇪

Such a perfect car for the job
designed for cannonballing through the german autobahn without a speed limit ;)
I really liked what you said about “cannonballing” without setting a record.
Before the pandemic, I frequently had to drive nearly coast to coast, but I had a tesla. Given how frequently they need to charge, there is no hope at breaking any records, but this electric version of cannonballing formed some of the most fun and exciting memories I have.
My buddy Kyle holds the EV Record! 45 hours 16 minutes and mannnnny many stops 😂
@@TedwardDrives That’s pretty impressive. Maybe if I ever get a long range Tesla, I could give it a shot, but it’s a much nerdier cannonball than the traditional cannonball since you can’t really exceed 120 mph and your primary goal is reducing your Wh/mi. Much more of a technological feat at this point. Edit: you can obviously go over 120, but it destroys your range
Being a big fan of the cannonball run starting in highschool, in my college years I did a "cannonball" run with a friend, no extra fuel tank, no spotters, no jammers, just a v1 and a love of driving. We never went that fast, worried about getting arrested haha. Obviously some spirited driving in there, and we followed the old rule of never going by another car at 20 over their speed. Still a lot of fun, and a great memory. I would love to do it again with a bit more organization though.
As an e60 M5 owner, it just tickles my heart that they used an M5 for the record.
I always knew the F90 M5 would be the best Cannonball car. I hope they do it again and break the 24h (seeing as they were on track for sub 24 run). It will be both a non asterisk run and a sub 24h, which is crazy.
I would like to see a run with F90 M550d - should have better fuel economy.
@Lynx Actual No they aren’t, they get shitty gas mileage, shitty handling, shitty brakes and they are only RWD, if it rains the cannonball is over for the hellcat plus the hellcats are slower than M5’s.
@Lynx Actual I have an Audi RS3, Mercedes E55 AMG and a C6 Z06. and no it doesn’t, maybe an F10 but an F90 M5 runs 10.6 second 1/4 mile at 130 mph and a 100-200 kmh of 6.6 seconds stock A stock Redeye runs 10.8 seconds at 126.6 mph and a 100-200 kmh in 7.5 seconds. Taking in cannonballing, handling is needed for 150 mph Mountain corners, Left lane hogs so you can weave around without losing grip etc. I have driven a hellcat redeye and they get 0 traction and have terrible handling.
@Lynx Actual In cannonballing 60-130 and 100-150 matters the most. M5 comps do a 7.5 second 60-130 while a hellcat does 8.5 second 60-130. Also M5 pulls 1.00 G’s in cornering (1.02 for the CS) while hellcat pulls 0.93 G’s and brakes from 100 mph to 0 in 281 feet while hellcat takes 309 feet, braking and handling is important in cannonballing whether it is pulling Mountain corners at 150 mph or braking for a left lane hog and weaving around. M5 does Virginia international RaceTrack at 2.54, (2.50 for the CS) while hellcat does 3.03. You raced an M3 or an M550i, not an M5. Hellcats are just not good and I could not give a fuck about your car. I’m talking about cannonballing. You need good MPG at high speeds for cannonballing and hellcats get like 3 MPG at high speeds which would increase time stopped for fuel stops.
@Lynx Actual 1.1 G’s on a 300 feet? I doubt it
Gloriously inconspicuous F90 M5. A nondescript big, fast car is perfect for a cannonball run.
Cannonball is part of the American dream for me. I wish I could somehow be part of it. Congrats to the team, and thanks for yet another relaxing, HQ video :)
Thanks!
I love how the check engine light comes on when entering the highway
i'm so sad it took youtube this long to recommended this video to me, what an amazing opportunity it is to drive this car
I love the idea of the cannonball. The fact that it’s completely illegal, in the face of law and authority, it just makes me tingle all over with joy👍. I’m so thankful people still have the courage to attempt it, it’s a very hopeful sentiment; the necessity of the American outlaw❤️
And I loved your idea of using older, cheaper cars, of doing the run purely for fun, a beautiful notion.
I agree, because when you listen to the drivers talk about their runs, you know they're normal, logical people, not some psychopaths or anything. They are breaking the law without really doing anything particularly "wrong". It's just living proof that following or not following the rules has nothing to do with being a good/moral person, and that the law isn't the highest force in the universe.
@@timeslowingdown Number one thing I always say, legality does not at all equal morality. Often times, it's quite opposite
I know right. Like the possibility of obliterating a family of 5 is just so dope. Way cooler than actual races with people that have skill.
@@illinoisvisuals 💯💯
@@illinoisvisuals There's absolutely no need to qualify the illegality. Is it moral? Not even slightly. Just accept that it's an activity that involves breaking the law up and down. Do we acknowledge that? Of course. Do we care? Nope. But there's no need to sugar coat it.
That intro montage was stellar. That is some incredible footage. Great video Tedward!

after watching the first clips of this car doing 180. you look like your absolutely crawling on 495
Would LOVE to see more footage from their drive. Can't wait for the podcast!
Strikes me as odd that so many econo boxes have flat bottom steering wheels nowadays, yet the craziest sports sedan has a good old circle.
Econoboxes need all the help they can get to dress up like sports cars
Amazing run guys. Thanks for sharing and the shoutout. I agree old cars are the best way... The solos, vintage race and nonstop are probably some of my best memories and achievements in Cannonballing. Hats off to you guys for 3 amazing runs. Great work Ted!!!! Amazing video mate! I love the Cannonball videos!

I can only imagine the panic they felt when the fuel stop failed and had to find a back up... then again, I can only imagine the panic from half the run overall ha
Hearing that S63 just singing right from the start was enough for me. Haha. Love the cannonball series.

wow that is an awesome car. Great video Ted!
Thanks Brian!
Imagine if there was no speed limit on the Interstate. All the need for radar jammers, and police scanners. Would go away, reducing the weight of the car. Plus allowing for a good run in an un modified car. Although the need for more fuel stops is a thing.
im from germany, as u might know most of our Highways/Interstates (dont know the exact difference, in germany we call it "Autobahn") have no speed limit and i think thats beautiful. Maybe its because in germany we have MercedesBenz, Porsche, BMW, VW and other cars but this feeling of freedom when you go 250km/h (about 160mph) its just gorgeous.
Must be nice. Also we call them freeways in general. Interstate is the American equivalent to the Bundesautobahn. Essentially a grade seperated federally funded highway network.

basically the best compliment that can be paid. Thank you!
No lie I like the solo run the best, since it makes it possible since most people don't have access to the "proprietary" information. That solo run did it with no frills and just made it across. Mind you by himself LOL
Brock was always worried about the speeds getting to fast, so he quit running it. With the technology built into new cars, I personally don't think it is as dangerous, as it was in the 70's. Cars that age had some seriously scary steering. Turn the wheel once around, before it would actually start turning! Crazy back then for sure!
I see you cruising in the middle lane and passing on the right a lot despite the video you posted a week ago about not doing that hahaha
Yes a cannonball run is definitely on my to do list! One day I may but not today!! 😂
Loved the video and the way you filmed it. Curious - how did you set up the camera and mic? Is it a gopro?
