I am in the Autumn of my hunting . journey . I have a personal record of the animals I have taken. It might be 100 pages. My hunting diary is now over 6600 pages of memories that I have never shared. These memories , I hold dear to my soul. The friends I have made, Ones that have past on, the hard work, the missed shots, helping others, the scenery, game not taken. The list goes on and on. Congratulations on another DIY High Country Buck! It’s not easy for sure. A little more mature deer there. You guys are shooting like eastern deer drives! Lol. But hey, got it done.
What I realized after this hunt is that we sight our guns in on the east coast around 400-1,600 feet of elevation. And when we go out west we are hunting at 7,000-11,000 feet. The thinner air out there at that elevation is making our guns shoot a little flatter than at home. This is something I have never heard of and found out after this hunt. Now, there’s not going to be a huge difference out to 300 yards but you will start to see a change past 300 yards. I think that’s what I was experiencing shooting at that buck at about 310 yards and a steep down hill angle. I put the first two shots over his back. And the third I didn’t account to lead him enough with my aim. Something I will do more research on and be more prepared for in the future. I kick myself for hunting out there for 3 years and not once ever hearing or learning that information, but better late than never. Thanks for watching!
@@HardwayOutdoors I would think that that would be something you would learn about before ever making a trip up to these Western high altitude States! Personally I wish they would stop allowing out-of-state Hunters in my state of Montana, but unfortunately it's all about the money for the Montana fish, wildlife, and parks! 👎👎👎👎 It's Hunter's like you that come from back east and are not prepared enough that wound a lot of animals, and they die and it ends up being a waste!
Can you always tell an Eastern Hunter, they like to be in front of the camera a lot and talk a lot, but don't seem to go after the animals, it's like they wait for the animals to come to them! I guess it's because of all the time they sit in tree stands over feeders! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍👍 We Western hunters find the animal we want and go right in after it, we do more actual hunting than filming ourselves talking! Oh by the way, you may want to spend a little more time at the shooting range, it shouldn't take 3-4 shots to kill a Deer! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I also noticed that you and your buddies are not wearing Hunter Orange, so where are you hunting that don't require you to wear Hunter Orange?
Great series loved how y all got ur bucks but when u took the 3rd shot when he was walking I cringed just a little lol but I’m not criticizing at all love the channel love the fishing videos also keep up the great work 10,000 ft my god I would pass out lol
I originally thought I hit him on my first shot so that’s why the other 2 were rushed. I was just trying to get some more bullets in him. However after the 3rd shot I realized he wasn’t hit the way he was running up the hill. Thanks for watching I appreciate the comment!
