Maybe Pen is a pencil that doesn’t have an eraser because the BFDI official character guide says that Pen is jealous everytime he sees pencil erases something

Here's another theory for you: Marker is actually a Pen. Definitionally speaking, Markers are considered to be "felt-tipped pens", so this theory would hold more water than you think.

ive seen many pens with different colors for some of these
Pen’s tip has a shine to it like it’s metallic and I definitely have pens with mismatched caps. Maybe pen just likes blue or it’s a replacement. Pens writing of 4 has a style (because it’s a font of the letter 4) that you probably couldn’t get with a pencil. Also a recommended character is named broken pen and pen’s innards are shown to be blue ink.

I think I found some answers.
- “hows pen managing to have 3 different colors in all of these” Either the ink is darker than the light blue cap, which usually is the case, or his cap got switched up with a different pen’s cap. And for the ink being gray, that is probably because it was inside bottle and the glass may have warped how it looked a bit.
- when you write with pencils, there’s always some tiny empty spaces because of the texture of the paper. However, writing with pens is much smoother and that could be why the thing pen drew is much smoother than it would be for a pencil
- “how similar pen’s body is to pencil”
I think this was just to show that they were similar- both thin, cylindrical writing tools. I think it’s a stylized choice to have him look like that, similar to how stylized Puffball is: in real life, there aren’t giant round clumps of fur but in bfdi, there are. That’s a design choice and I think it’s the same for Pen.
- His name is PEN and they are named after the object that they are
- the wrapping in a pencil also indicates what color it is (if it’s a colored pencil) and pen is wrapped (?) in white. He is not a white “pencil”

Well people used ink back then which was purplish black and it turned into black writing just like pens tip, but for the woodish like part of pen, thats probably the second part of what youd see in a pen, they probably just made a mistake and coloured it brown, and blue is similar to pruple so i guess pen could still be a pen

I realized, wait in One of the bfdi comic's, pencil had a different design. And it's the perfect shape for a pen. My theory is the old pencil wasn't actually pencil but rather pen because he was 1/4 characters who were created for bfdi to get to 20 contestants.And at some point, pencil's design changed, and pen probably left to go find a cap and then returned in bfdi.

While most likely not canon, the first time we see Pen without his cap was in a BFDI YTPMV. More specifically the one that has a big ass animation that loops infinitely (i do not rember the name sadly).
Quick update: The name of the YTPMV is Last BFDI. It was uploaded as a 20,000 subscriber special.

whats even better about this is that in that animation, we see that pencil transforms into pen after the cap is put on, which may prove the theory even more correct

Also if I where them I would draw a pen cap like that too, and the concentred blue ink normally looks purple. About the gray/black writing it’s only because of the style or just an error on the design.
