Hello Jason, after watching your first video yesterday I immediately went ahead and subscribed to your CZcams channel. This is the ONLY board game I play! Literally! I’m just not that into the others or wanting to spend much time on. Backgammon is simply the greatest of them all! At least it is to me. I’ve been playing it since 1977 every day as much as I can. A friend of mine John Holmes R.I.P. introduced it to my brother and then my brother showed me how to play. Thank you John ! My brother and I share this and we never can get enough of it. We’ve been to tournaments, got a large library of gammon books, taken lessons on line, play on line, and in our tiny little pathetic club where we’ve been trying to grow more players. I only have ONE single regret about backgammon. That I didn’t begin to study it from the get-go. So yes, been playing it for 46 years however I am NO expert by any means. There’s so much to it learning which makes it fun too. One of the most interesting things if not the most about it for me is that on every single move that you play your checkers/men there’s just one of them that is correct. You may still make a good move but there’s always going to be the very best move. I’m looking forward to your other videos and thanks for your new gammon channel. Happy dice 🎲 rolling…..

Hi Rick! Thank you for the kind words! Its sure is a great game! I can't get enough of it either, haha. I'm always asking friends and family if they want to play. I'm currently at the Cherry Blossom Tournament prep and to be surrounded by so many backgammon players has been SO cool.
Thank you for sharing your story! 😀 It's really cool to hear how people got into the game. There's something incredibly special about the game. I've said it many times in my videos already, but it really is fun if you win and fun if you lose (for me at least). The more I'm learning about the game the more I'm realizing how much I don't know, but I'm looking forward to continuing studying!
Maybe one day we can get a game in. Happy dice rolling to you as well. Cheers! 😀

First getting a feel for the checkers/dice and BG itself, no cube is cool. However after a few sessions soon as your comfortable with everything-learn to play with the cube.
The cube opens up a whole different world in BG and you’ll see a much deeper game and more to learn and as a long term result a longer engagement with BG. Play just checkers does get old after a while. With the cube, it will hold your attention for much much longer. As the cube is also essential for match play (can play matches without it, but it gets dull).
Good luck, have fun! Nice board, love the orange 😍😍

I'm hoping to go to my first backgammon club next week, which will be a lot of fun! It's an hour and a half away or I'd definitely have gone by now, haha.

I travel the world playing BG, I’ve made friends all over. We go to dinners at tourneys, help each other with positions & then go to war when we play. It’s a friendly bunch. All ages too. I’m 56. I have friends in their early 20’s to late 80’s I play often. Very diverse. The tourneys in America are fun and local clubs too. When I’m in a area with a local club I make a point to drop by. People who play BG all tend to be smart. There’s very little friction within our community.

Backgammon boardgame is my favorite and the heart of my boardgames and puzzles because of its elements, fundamentals and techniques (strategies/tactics). The doubling cube is not used to roll, just like among the six-sided 🎲. It can make the game finished faster by offering the doubling cube to your opponent, which either accept the offer and take the possession of the D.cube or pass.

While you are still getting a feel of how different positions play out before introducing the doubling cube into the game, just play your games as DMP, meaning gammons and backgammons don't count---you are just playing for 1 point. Then enter your games into XG as DMP, and you won't get dinged for missed cubes. This will also prepare you for playing matches because being able to play well at DMP is super important.

@@blunderblots Be interested in your thoughts on the use of the clock. I migrated into backgammon from chess where the clock is a big element of the game. Granted I do not understand completely how the clock is used in backgammon but what I think I understand. You get 2 minutes per game in a match plus 12 sec increments per move. This is the total time you have to play to the entire match. What I am a bit confused about is what happens if you run out of time at the end of the match? Do you lose the match? As for my board search. After weeks of research and agonizing I decided on a board/set from FM Gammon. I contemplated Crisloid, Wyclif and FM Gammon, but in the end I chose FM Gammon over Crisloid primary for the look and feel of the surface Vs cork. Have not received it yet but I am excited to use it.

@@Magyar0649 I don’t usually use a clock for casual games, hence I don’t use the clock all that often, haha. It usually goes 2 minutes per point. So if you’re playing a 5 point match, you get 10 minutes to play the whole match. And yes, 12 seconds is common for the delay. I believe a 15 second delay is used for a lot of intermediate tournaments. If you run out of time, you lose the whole match.
I hear you on the board choices. There are a lot of incredibly cool and great boards out there. I played on an Earth Board not to long ago which is sold by Backgammon Galaxy but made by FM Gammon. It was a lot of fun to play on and there’s no denying the great sound you get from wood edges. I’d love to hear all about it when you get it 😃👍🏻

@@blunderblots Got the board from FM and it is beautiful. Sadly it does not make me play any better, but it sure does look, sound and feel like a 'real' backgammon board. 😄😄

As an avid backgammon player it was a bit cringy to see how much time you both took to make a decision. But the thing that struck me is that the both of you had very good strategy especially as novices.

Hi xchalibur! Yes, if a clock was brought into the equation we’d both be done for, haha! I guess the trick is to keep practicing to speed up our strategies, and maybe bring a clock in? Thanks for watching and cheers! 😃
