  • Chris (Reefer Division Fleet Manager) and David (Trailer Maintenance) are breaking down how to fix an air chute on a Prime Inc. refrigerated trailer along with what tools you will need in order to make the fix.
To repair a broken air chute, you will need 3 main things: a ladder, a hammer, and a #2 Phillips Screwdriver.
If you do not feel comfortable doing this fix yourself, reach out to your Fleet Manager or Road Assist Advisor at Prime Inc, and they can help you.
If you are a Prime Driver and do a fix an air chute on a refrigerated trailer in the Prime Fleet, let your Fleet Manager know.

Thank you Chris and David and of course Prime. Had no idea that it's that easy to repair a shute and I didn't know there are rivets on the trailers. If I ever have a shute problem, I know what to do now 👍👍👍

Just went to open up the reefer door to see if the rivets are there. And it was true, they are there 👍

I was at a Sam's club and my mt had a chute down. I grabbed a shopping cart and put it in the trailer to stand on. Grabbed some small nails and nailed that thing back to the ceiling. Never knew about rivets in the battery compartment.

Too bad all companies dont do things like this How To Video, or extra rivits in the unit. Chutes are an issue alot of times where I work. Good video. Thanks

I work on prime’s air chute’s and you prime guys are the worst when it come’s to air chutes maintenance, your drivers bring their trailers in and ask can we repair the chute, half the chute will be hanging on the floor before you ask can it be fixed😂😂😂😂😂

What to do if air chute got disconnected in the nose section of a trailer, right where it attaches to the unit itself (inner part of it) ?
Rings became stretched overtime and when air flow is directed into a chute - keeps falling all the time.
Your response will be so appreciated

Word of advice, get a drill to pop the holes into the boards. I struggled trying to blow through the panels, a drill makes it 10x faster, I put the drill in reverse and go full speed slowly to cut through the chute so it doesnt twist the bit up. Drill makes it so much quicker

So how do we fix a 4’x4” tear that runs down the center of the chute.

Hey Ryan! Good question. That can be difficult. We've seen them stitched up with zip ties and tape, but that is a VERY temporary fix. More times than not, we will have to replaced it. Always reach out to your Road Assist Advisor to get guidance on issues like this.

The chutes are too thin, no wonder they are always damaged.

I attempted to pick up a trailer with the chute hanging down, I didn't know I could repair it and get paid. It's simple I didn't know there was rivets just waiting for me. Can't wait to get my next empty

The idea that puncturing new holes in my reefered trailer may cause thermal leaks, makes me paranoid

    • @PRIMEINCTRUCKING
      @PRIMEINCTRUCKING  Před 9 měsíci

The rivets used to fix the chute will not go all the way though the trailer roof when put in correctly. It just goes into the foam insulation just a few inches.

I've been doing these repairs for 6 yrs. You can replace 5-10 fasteners in 20 minutes or wait at a shop 2-4 hours to have the same thing done. I'd rather fix it and be driving. Ain't making any money at the shop.
