    Hi Marie.
    I always use Glyceryl stearate se and I was always happy with it. I live in Europe and buy it from Aromazone. My last batch is different. The lotions are a bit thicker but more importantly it leaves a waxy coat on the skin. I tried your cleansing balm twice but it doesn't work. It doesn't emulsify but stays greasy and waxy :(
    I want to try another emulsifier now. What do you recommend? Olivem 1000?

    Concerning Xanthan gum...you mention that to help the Xanthan not clump try putting Xanthan into some oil to disperse then add to the heated oils right before combining with the heated waters. When doing this, does the Xanthan gum have enough time to hydrate? I thought it was only water soluble? Thank you for your help with this!

    I’m waiting on some ritamulse to get to me! I am having such a hard time with soaping, going to see if the emulsifier helps. All I’ve been using is E-wax NF soft and silky.
    Also, very curious: is it possible to mix just the emulsifiers+water, and THEN add the oils? Would this make any kind of difference to the final product?

    I have made Creams using Emulsifying wax NF before, and they melt and absorb well into the skin. I got the idea of using Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG 100 Stearate as an emulsifier when i saw you use it in some of your videos so that i can have more control on the viscosity of my formulation. I also started using Xanthan Gum, again thanks to you, I have gotten several formulation eureka s since I started watching your videos. Now, something I encountered, maybe you can see what's going wrong.
    The creams / Lotions I have been making using Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG 100 Stearate that has Xanthan Gum upto 0.5%, stearic acid upto 4 %, and total Oil phase including the emulsifier upto 27% hasn't been absorbing that readily despite of the 59% or higher water phase, it also soaps a bit before it absorbs. Do you think its the Xanthan Gum? I have made several test batches with just liquid oils, with butters, and varying water percentages. Do you have an idea of why? Or does Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG 100 Stearate soap a bit in general?

    • @Ching21286

      Hi. Same doubt here. I did the summer extra-light cream formula recently and used xathan gum to replace polyacrylate crosspolymer-6, way too soapy….i will try some other formulas and confirm weather it’s the problem or no

    • @angeladamico6426
      @angeladamico6426 Před 3 měsíci +1

      What are the percentages of your emulsifiers?
      As a rule, emulsifier should be 25% of total OIL phase... Also, since you are using more than one thickener, I think you may be able to reduce your stearic acid. 4% seems a little bit high (I am only guessing without your formula percentages I cannot be totally sure).
      Also, if you are using any butters in this formula, it can increase soaping as they have a lot of stearic acid in them.
      I am thinking that your water phase needs to be higher.

    • @stancexpunks
      @stancexpunks Před 9 měsíci

      Those bubbles = air, so incorporate less air if you want less bubbles. Be mindful of the tools you’re using and how you’re using them. For example if you’re using a whisk and beating it vigorously like you’re making scrambled eggs then it will have more bubbles than if you use a chopstick and gentle stir. She also mentions how to avoid bubbles at 4:07.

  • @angelashaked8996

    Can I ask what's wrong with bubbles in a lotion? It feels sort of whippy. Is it harder to preserve?

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  Před rokem +2

      It's not bad, but it is something a lot of people ask about preventing/avoiding. One of the biggest downsides is that the lotion can "collapse" after a few days, leaving headroom in a bottle that looked full before.

    Marie, why always glycerin? In south, especially if near a beach. Your face,body, has so much moisture pulled to it. You feel like leaking. I've been working without it. I'm okay with my products. But not my gels. Help

    • @mandyheart8754
      @mandyheart8754 Před rokem +14

      The formulas here don’t use glycerin so what are you referring to. Also Marie lives in Canada so concerns specific to areas with high humidity likely aren’t of importance to her when formulating.
      Marie always always urges viewers to check out her website and encyclopedia, where you’d quickly see that the glycerin info page has suggestions for suggested glycerin replacements, complete with info about the stickiness of each suggested alternative (on their respective detail pages). She suggests:
      “You’ll want to replace it with another humectant. Sodium lactate and propanediol 1,3 are good choices.”
      Scanning many of her video comment sections, I’ve noticed that nearly all can be answered if the viewers would have taken Marie’s advice and reviewed her website blog postings and encyclopedia. Marie seems to be incredibly thorough and logical in her thought patterns and actions, and has almost always taken the initiative to have already addressed any questions that are relatively foreseeable about the topics she discussed in videos (where that info has been, of course, posted on her site).
      Listen to Marie and utilize her site! She’s put SO MUCH EFFORT into it and it’s an AMAZINGLY informative resource!!!

    • @gabrielac2663
      @gabrielac2663 Před rokem +2

      Hi Sharon just saw your comment. On places with low humidity what you need is not to pull the glycerin out but rather to add an ingredient that locks moisture, like some silicones. What you need to do is draw water to the skin (glycerin) and lock it there.

  • @kathydweber2737

    I can pay the $10.00 a month but, my problem is changing ingredients to grams, I have a scale but I have trouble using the scale, I would so much appreciate your help since you seem to know more than I do about converting to grams. Thank You

    • @stancexpunks
      @stancexpunks Před 9 měsíci +2

      What do you mean trouble using the scale? Any digital scale will have several different unit of measurements (including ounces and grams) that you can easily change by pressing one button. Most scales will only have 2 buttons: on/off/Tare and unit of measurement. So after turning it on, you press the unit of measurement button button until you see it says “g” on the screen. Then you can start weighing your ingredient, or put a container on first then press tare before adding the ingredient.
      If you only know the weight of something in ounces and want to convert it to grams, then lookup/google “how many grams are in an ounce?” and then multiply your ounces measurement by that number to convert it to grams. For example, if there are 28.35grams in an ounce and I have 2 ounces, then I multiply 2 x 28.35 to get 56.7 grams.
      It’s similar to converting feet to inches. Let’s say I want to convert 2 feet into inches. I would lookup “how many inches are in a foot?” and the answer would be: 12 inches. So I would multiply 2 (feet) by 12 inches to get: 24 inches. So 2 feet = 24 inches.
      That is the basic way of converting units of measurements.
