You've inspired me to build 1 for myself. Your info and detailed instructions give me confidence I can build 1 of my own. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated. Keep up the great work and the build videos.
WOW! What an ingenious idea!!! I wish I had that 30 years ago when I had to carry bundles of shingles up 3 different ladders to the 3rd story of a house in south Charlotte. Love it Ken!!! 👍👍
I really appreciate it. This rig can surely save your back, save your energy, save on labor, ... clearly it was a awesome window dismantler as well! 🧵🥽🥽🥽🔩⚙🩹🩹🩹🩹
VERY CLEVER ‼️ To buy one of those commercial units are very expensive. The bearings on the lift section is a very important part of the build. THANK YOU for sharing your set up 👍👍 Vinny 🇺🇸
I've seen these sell of almost $1700 each. Build it yourself is sure worth it. Ken gives away a lots of his trade secrets. I bet his employees learn a lot from him. Some may even go on to start their own garage/construction companies. I'll bet Ken is just the type to love to see those who learned under him go on to also be successful, rather than resenting it.
thank you for giving me an idea for a lift to the attic space above my garage/shop, where I store material and odds and ends. I have a similar ladder that was left by our contractor when our home was built which he never returned to retrieve. I have kept it my shop for the past 25+ years thinking I would eventually have need of it for painting the outside of the home. But, now I feel I will re-purpose this ladder in much the same way you have illustrated here, a lift that I had for years thought about building out of framing lumber. Now, you have given me a better idea.
I used to help a friend with roofing when I was a teenager and they had a similar setup but it had a gas motor on it and it saved a lot of back breaking work!
hahaha good ending! I have had this exact same lift for 10 years now of shingling. Bought the plans off some guy on youtube. wore out 2 cables and 1 motor. Sure saved a pile of work with shingling!
Ken, I just finished my ladder lift after following your video. It works great! I had to do some adjusting of the bearings like you did until it ran smoothly. This will make it easy to get my skylight and roofing up there this summer. Thanks for posting this video!!
That’s a back saver! Ken you should be selling those lift ladders! Something you could do when the weather is bad... They would be hard to ship but you could put a kit together with the winch and all of the other parts along with instructions and let folks buy their own ladder using the exact make and length.
A great video and a great hoist. Am looking forward to watching the other videos. David Foster from across the pond ( Milford on Sea , Hampshire, England to be precise ! ) .
I built 1 of those about 8 yrs ago,,,,,same hoist and concept,,,Used it to lift bundles of shingles up on the roof saved my poor old back and still have all the parts
With extreme sincerity , thank you for sharing this wonderful invention . I have knowingly purchased an old community hall that requires a new roof , and this will greatly assist me , as well as provide a small side business of renting it out for the day . Again , thank you very much ... " T " >>>...
Thanks for the video, loved the surprise ending! I think I may make something similar to this that is just a shelf on rails that is hand-raised to help raise a honey bee 'swarm trap' box up to the level of a swarm. Hope to figure out a way to implement the ladder auto-clip/unclips that hold the upper ladder rail in place to hold the sled in place too.
Nice build! I wish that there is a part fasten the ladder against the house to prevent tipping over. Well worth the money for the build and priceless at the end. lol
Had to rewind three times, how about a clip with mistakes that we all do from time to time, Glad everyone was clear when things didn’t go as planned.. Like always great videos..
Thanks for the upload! Such a tasty build! I love it, about 1/3 the cost of a laddervator...:)...As a former roofer for decades, ceder, slate, three tab and dimensionals Have all gone up topside on a laddervator...Our's went up 46'... but it was gas......it's the second best way to load a roof or high entrance...
If I only could make a ladder hoist I think I wouldn't have to carry roofing shingle rolls up the ladder.... because it's hard work. Today Dec 22, 2022 I crawled up the ladder three times with roofing shingle on my shoulder. My knees hurt and my legs were exhausted by end of day omg! I'm not a young man no more.
This is a great idea. Good job. I can't see it being a problem for this application, but I was warned many years ago by an aircraft maintenance engineer that they are single-use only for aircraft use. If you re-use them, they can work loose where there's vibration. I re-use them most of the time and I've never had a problem, but I wouldn't use them on a car or a powered boat, for example. I only mention it because I'm a pedantic retired engineer who sometimes believes that perfection is the minimum standard.
Hahahahahaha !! What an ending to a really nice build. Guess you'll need to screw a step on the edge of your platform. If I get a hold of a motor lift Ill build one my self. Very nifty for a one guy operation such as me.... I pulled a jacuzzi up a second floor by self, two easy pulls not designed for lifting. Easy does it! not recommend. The kids don't like manual labor jee wiz! Great and simple but very very useful build !! Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant! Definitely one of the neatest tools I’ve seen. As we like to say in my trade “simple, yet elegant”. Wish I had enough of a use to make one for home and can’t use one on the job because it’s not a certified lifting device. You may want to put a ton of disclaimers in this video for liability reasons, though.
A manual boat winch would also work (though obviously slower). Some folks drive those with a cordless drill. BTW the "angle irons" are more easily found searching for "Dexion" (the original brand). Dexion is like an adult erector set and famously versatile.
My husband is building me a ladder hoist to move our Christmas decorations up and down our stairs from your video. We're using an old ladder and the two pieces are very close to each other, doesn't seem like enough space for a shoulder ball bearing (3/8" x 7/8") to slide between the two. Are the shoulder bearings absolutely necessary? Great Project for us and hope it will work well to move our decorations. Thanks for your detailed video.
Me encanto el vídeo esto es lo que necesito para elevar paneles solares aunque le pondré una amarra para evitar el final y un accidente, muchas gracias desde Baja California, México.
you need a longer latter so your stuff doesn't fall off the top when it hits the bracket at the top like the glass did and you have too much angel great idea god bless be safer
An interesting idea. When I shingled my roof, I built a 10 ft high wooden scaffold (3 ft wide, 10 ft long) and attached the hoist to a 4x4 beam mounted across the top of one end. Worked great for getting those bundles to the roof (a 1-story). The biggest cost were the clamps and attaching bolts/nuts.
Good morning Ken. Getting ready to start my own house and decided I'm going to build your ladder lift. Question I have is did you add longer hoist control cord (wire) to the switch or did it come thst way? Most hoists I find only have 6 foot lenth for the up/down control switch and yours looks longer than that.
Nice clear presentation. Helpful for making a hoist. I didn't need any other resources other than your comments.
Thanks so much
hawaii roofer here, thank you for saving my time and money and especially my back. mahalo
Thanks for watching
This is awesome!! I do love the last part where the glass drops and breaks.
Yes that was fun
Ken, you have a healthy sense of humour . I can hear you as you’re editing this video saying we will see who watches to the very last frame... lol
Haha thanks for watching to the end.
Oops, another window bites the dust lol.
You've inspired me to build 1 for myself.

Thanks for watching. That’s exciting
I was thinking an ATV winch would work well and is more compact. 12vdc .
I used to help a friend with roofing when I was a teenager and they had a similar setup but it had a gas motor on it and it saved a lot of back breaking work!
Nice

Thanks they sure are handy
I've gotta say, that's good old yankee ingenuity, well done sir!
Haha thanks
Enjoyed you video. These lifts are back savers and used responsibly can help stop injuries. Thank you.
Phillip Lopez thanks for the comment!
Great video! I appreciate you showing the details. It made things much clearer. Thank you!
This is very cool! I rented one in the past. I tried to figure out how to make one. Thanks!!!
Thanks
very kool " ken" ! don't think i will ever need one, but your ingenuity is awesome! love watching your builds and cost breakdowns...
Thanks
Great idea. Loved the grand finale!
Thanks Ken, a very useful video... as I can't rent one in my area, I'll definitively build one....

Thanks I’ll have to ponder that
I built a lift using the Harbor Freight lift with 2X6's and dolly wheels. I used mine to lift shingles. Worked great. Cost $125.
Which lift are you referring to?
Awesome idea, awesome build and super awesome ending!!!! OMG it's like I was involved. lol
Haha thanks for watching
A great video and a great hoist. Am looking forward to watching the other videos. David Foster from across the pond ( Milford on Sea , Hampshire, England to be precise ! ) .
Wow welcome
Super Brilliant, going to build one of these next weekend, cheers from The West of Ireland, County Clare :-)
Have fun!
Always strap your load! Accidents happen! Thanks for video!!
perfect to place a/c condensers on the roof. intentional ending on the video was awesome!!!!!!
Thanks
Ken great job. You are a handy person using mind and hands .
Thanks for watching
You’re a genius, Ken.

Enjoyed the video, sometime we need something like this to install Fireplaces on a second floor install in new construction
Great idea , work smarter not harder, thanks for sharing
The beauty of this is that's it's simple.
Nice job.
From Perú- South America I thank you for sharing your knowlegde with us.
Good on you. very explicit video. thanks for sharing. Like the ending. Shit happens, no filter. All the best here from Chile
Thanks
very clever. Very innovative. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks for watching
Perfect!!!!! Love the latter jack. Great job Ken 5 stars *****
Wow thanks
Nice build! I wish that there is a part fasten the ladder against the house to prevent tipping over. Well worth the money for the build and priceless at the end. lol
That is so dang useful! Especially for someone with an extremely bad back!
True
Good idea that tempered glass sure does make a mess lol
Thanks for sharing time and knowledge with the world . Great video , I’m planning to make one similar to that without using a ladder .
Please if possible share your finished results with the U Tube community. Thanks!
Had to rewind three times, how about a clip with mistakes that we all do from time to time, Glad everyone was clear when things didn’t go as planned.. Like always great videos..

I'd use at least a 4" pulley at the top so the cable is less likely to rub on either side of the rungs. Pretty awesome though!
Great Work Ken. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
We can all learn the names of parts. Few of us are blessed with the imagination to help others do their work inexpensively. Thanks.
Thanks for watching
Really good video and teaching session. Thank you.
Thanks I appreciate it
The ending was pretty good. Nice build! I have an extra ladder and winch. I need a project this month.
Thanks
Great video. LOL at the end. Great gag clip.
Haha

Wow great idea. Yes be careful with glass and wind or the top of the ladder when it comes to one last bump ah. 😳
Haha
Your content on this channel is amazing!!!
Thanks
Looks like a fun ride for a worker.

Спасибо. Я ценю ваш комментарий.
Red Green approves.
They may not find you handsome. Least they will find you handy.

It might be ok. The weight you’re lifting is probably less than 100 pounds
Great idea !
