Scott Glasel recalled that 'Ordinary Lives' was started before Andy died, but as completed it seems to be a philosophical comment on life and death. For a time it was called 'Cruel World', a phrase heard at the start of the second verse as completed. The rhythm has some similarity to 'You Win Again' and may have been a deliberate attempt to follow it up. But it has many new features including the brief spoken word parts and the existential musings of the lyrics, something often associated with Robin but clearly here coming from Barry. Probably the finished recording has added dubs by the musicians who worked on One

That Olympics album was actually released on August 30, 1988.
And the Bee Gees have a different song on that album, (Shape Of Things To Come).
The album should have used this track instead, it's FAR better!
Simple, catchy, anthemic and easy to sing along to; surely a perfect combo or 'no-brainer' for a song related to the Olympics.

i thought this song was written by Barry for his wife as in of the performances on his solo tour from a years back he said something alluding ot this and dedicated the song to her.

As told by Robin Gibb in the booklet accompanying the 1990 Tales box set he says about the song: "Many things can be read into the lyrics, but autobiographical it in't. It is, in fact, the story of two lovers who come from different backgrounds, and because of peer pressure, have to escape. It's all a lot of fun really! Nothing heavy."
