  • I use my Workflowy daily capture log to collect my PKM bits and bobs and send them off to places where I can find and use them in the future.

WOW, David, I would like to replicate that!! I hope you can do another video with more detail on how you set up your taxonomy system. I am transitioning from Roam into Workflowy for its simplicity. Thanks for the guidance.

czcams.com/video/kSFb_1JNTNk/video.html there is a link to a video I made in response to your comment. Hope that helps.

When you initially started this taxonomy method, was there some amount of nodes floating around in workflowy (not in your dated calendar system) that belonged in a category of the taxonomy nodes? Did you just drop those into the appropriate category, or did you put them all in a single archive type location and back link them so that the appeared consistently as backlinks? ... I'm in the process of creating a similar type taxonomy system, and I'm just dragging all my random notes into the appropriate category for now, but I haven't given much though to it.

I had about 10,000 nodes in a "Thought Database" node that was the precursor to my Taxonomy node. Those nodes are pretty thoroughly tagged with relevant topics, but I only move them into my taxonomy node as needed. I am a big fan of the concept of "progressive summarization", so if a topic comes up again and I am doing work with it, I will dip into my TD node, and move relevant thoughts into my Taxonomy node. Otherwise, they just stay there for reference as needed.

Hi David, another really useful video, thank you. Two ( hopefully ) quick questions for you; 1) why do you use the date as the UID and 2) where do you move the node to from Capture once you’ve added info ? Thanks

Dates in WorkFlowy are easy to generate (I just type "now", then hit [tab] and it inserts the current date with hour and minute...Honestly, I don't have a particular use for a UID, but got in the habit when I was researching ZK methodology...now it is just a nice way to know exactly when I inserted the information into WorkFlowy. As far as the capture node...at the end of the day, I grab all the nodes from the day, drag them up and to the left and drop them into today's date in my calendar node, then complete it to hide it. That leaves me with all of my capture log items accessible and searchable in my calendar archive.

David: thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for sharing your videos: I find them clear and compelling, and they are making a real difference for me.
I have ADHD and a coach (plug: Jeff Copper at DIG) recommended I try using multiple screens to replace my low-powered "working memory". Wow! With 5 screens in front of me, my ADHD is relegated to a minor quibble (at least while I'm at my desk...😏) I've gone from having my brain operating with an "8-bit processor" @3 GHz, to a "64-bit" @13 MHz (the frequency a human brain typically uses for “active” intelligence). Now there is much less "churning" and WAY more productive output.
Since then, I have developing a fairly sophisticated system for using those screens to "channel/corral/entice" my brain to do what "I" want it to, not what "it" wants to do. It is working surprisingly well, but your videos have shown me some excellent methods to address some of the issues I hadn't gotten to yet-or are EVEN BETTER than my own! 😱(🙃).
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that your videos are making a REAL difference in at least one person's life. (I suspect there are others...)
    GREAT job, dude. 👍😎

I think we could be friends...or at least have a lot to talk about 😀. I think I might have ADHD...whenever I hear someone describe it, or facets of it, I think, "Isn't that just how everyone is? I didn't know that wasn't normal." Lots of screens helps me, too...I have 4 of them. Also the Elgato Streamdeck...I have 3 of those: a XL, a Mini and a Stream pedal for my feet. The key for me is making any transition as smooth and effortless and fast as possible...anytime I have to transition from one action to another leaves me open to getting derailed and losing focus, so I actively try to condense transitions...so 4 screens helps, because I am not trying to find things hidden in tabs as much...also WFx make navigation super fast (you should try the Chrome extension if you don't have it.)
